Guest Protozoa
I applied for a new passport last Saturday (before ICA indicated yesterday that waiting time is now increased to 1 month+) Haven’t received any updates yet and urgently need to collect it within the next 2.5 weeks (i.e. I expected 3.5 weeks from application to collection). At the point of my application, it was still indicated on ICA website that processing time is 1 week. Does writing in to ICA to appeal to process my application faster work (with reason)? InBangkok
You are lucky. I wonder if it is also a month for Singaporeans based overseas. UK residents living in Thailand used to be able to obtain new passports within one week from the UK Consulate in Bangkok. Then a money saving drive started. All Asian passport renewals had to be handled by the Hong Kong Consulate. That lasted about a year before more money saving measures were enacted. Now renewals take a minimum of 11 weeks because passports have to be sent to an address in the UK and the applicant has to pay for DHL courier service both ways. What reason? Representing SG in World Cup? Nope, in fact it will further delay the process as they need extra manpower to read and reply the email, same as when people flock to ICA for enquiries, they need to cater for extra manpower and that will further delay the whole process. I believe ICA is not only overwhelmed by passort application but also handling all those study and work permit after SG open up in Apr. All these issues ICA should have already anticipated and come up with solutions. Edited June 17, 2022 by lonelyglobe
Guest Late ah
Is it normal to only apply for passport when you need it? I have a friend who never leave Singapore but he has a valid passport just in case he need to leave Singapore anytime. I have foreigner friend who have a valid passport all the time. Why ppl NOW suddenly all want to apply.

Why ppl NOW suddenly all want to apply. Some may really forgot and overlook but the rest probably dont want to pay for something that they cannot use immediately, they may have "lugi" 1 to 2 years validity of passport, well u know sporean, ha... Another reason, passort issued before oct 2021, validity have been reduced from 10 years to 5. superflawless
I, too, think it's always a good idea to have a valid passport of at least two years to act as a buffer. Do not wait till the last minute. Even if you do not plan to travel any time soon, apply now if your passport is about to expire. gc0805
