I agree with you, it is convenient to use WeChat, Alipay, Baidu map, etc, which do not need a local/China SIM card.   

 

Did you try accessing China gay apps?  If you did, do these require registration?  And if they do, do they require a local/China phone number?

one of my favourite is chengdu's 民谣酒馆 at Yulin West Road. these are small local bars with acoustic singers. grab a couple of drinks and hear them out and people watch. comfortable for solo travellers to go. you should definitely check these out.

haha, uncle here over 60s liao.  Xiamen is my home town, went for praying my grandparents and sightseeing.

 

Last trip, I learnt about this app from the local and alipay app for didi booking. The ximen hotel young man taught me about these app.

I use meituan to plan where shall I visit and to read the reviews. For onsen sometime it has better deal. I just signed up Xiaohong shu, so many video  and information too. I dont order food from Meituan, I like to eat street food and visit the eating places.

 

In my 30s ago,  I had visited  China for a lot of places but in group tours. But now, I like to go in solo and plan my own itinerary and explore new areas and meet new people. Start from this year 2026, xiamen and chengdu. Next time may be other places. Any good suggestions ? I believe you are also experience in travelling to China.

yes you can. no issues but they will pressure you to buy beer. you can definitely order other drinks.

If anyone is looking at trying out the Bathouse (洗浴中心) experience in Chengdu, I will recommend 浅深. Can go online search for their videos to see how grand the place can be. Nothing Hanky Panky cos their hot pool area got lots of staff (with clothes on) standing around, reminding you to be careful of the slippery floor, arranging your slippers, passing you the towel when you (in nude) go one side to rest etc etc. So if you want eye candies, Bathhouse is a good place, but seriously don't expect much happening. However, if you looking for a place to eat, rest and relax, then it's a perfect place to spend your entire day. 

 

If anyone have some other recommendation in Chengdu, please share. TIA.

I have installed Alipay and wechat on my iphone and linked youtrip mastercard on both apps. I have also setup the identity information. 

How do I know both apps are functional for payment when I'm in China next mth end?

Is Blued app more popular than Grindr in China? Other than Blued, which web sites to get to the locals?

Is there a side/link for the local chinese to discuss about gay travel in China, I meaned their own blowingwind forum for local chinese. You probably say ShiuHong Shu/Rednote, I know and I heard about it, but, I try not to get addicted to it.

Does it means my Alipay identity verification has been successfully verified?

Not sure about Alipay, but for WeChat, once is stated as verified, everything is okay. You can add cards to your account also meaning all okay :)
