The World Expo is an international event and this time is held at Shanghai, China from 1 May to 31 Oct 2010.

Just curious if anyone is keen to go on this trip...

I've bought my tickets for 22 May to 27 May 10 and will be staying at the Holiday Inn, just across the Shanghai Central Railway Station.

May I know where you got your ticket? From Singapore travel agent?

Planning to go during mid autumn when the air is cooler.

Can visit Expo, eat mooncake and hairy crabs!

Agreed.

If i have the time I might go in June.

However, the chances for me to visit in Sept is even higher. As I have to visit LV shop at hangzhou for the fall collection and visit its regional manager there.

Shanghai is one of my favorite cities. Delicious food, cosmopolitan urban habitat and warmth hospitality.

Did he mention Holidays Inn Hotel ???

I see a friend's facebook buying 3-day ticket to World Expo for 90$ from Commonwealth Travel in Chinatown, then he got the stamp for priority entry to the Singapore Pavilion. You also can buy it from Chan Bros.

Among all Holiday Inns in Shanghai, Holiday Inn at Shanghai Railway Station is not a very good choice because the neighborhood nearby is always packed with migrant workers. At a similar price, you can check Holiday Inn in Dongfang Road of Pudong, much closer to Expo site, too.

at first I was interested in going

then i heard the queues were 30 min

and it is so hot

then i realised i am not very interested in exhibits too

more interested in the migrants that someone said hangs around the shanghai railway station

the buildings are nice to look at and photograph

but u guys think the exhibits themselves are interesting?

Well, i guess it all depends on what you are interested. The things that you will be able to find ( but not limited to ) in such expos are:

i. Culture

ii. Food

iii. New Technology - IT savvy stuff, display, environmental friendly building materials and structure etc

iv. Able to visit a lot of different places at the same time and maybe next time, you will want to visit the country itself.

v. Different country treasures - little mermaid statue, famous painting at France Pavilion and others.

so at the end, what are you interested in.

Just came back fm the Shanghai Expo yesterday. Bought the 3 days visit pass at RMB 400/- ( single day pass cost RMB 160/- ), generally its crowded although its reported that the no. of visitor is still below the expected vol from the authority. just queing at the Saudi Arabi pavilion wasted almost 3 hours, but its the no. 1 most popular ( after the China Pavilion) as Saudi spent huge amount of money in building.

Hi abang,

since you are staying near the railway station, u can take their mrt ( metro line) no. 4 / 7 / 8 direct to the Expo.

Just to share those pavilions that are popular ( the queue will take at least 2 - 3 hours long ) :

- Saudi Arabia Pavilion ( no. 1 popular, as Saudi spents huge money in building, & genearlly people like the

"3 -D" expreriennce" in the I-max theatre which is excellent )

- Japan / Korea / Germany Pavilion ( Long queue & decided not to queue for it )

- Switzerland Pavilion ( can try the cable car )

- Denmark Pavilion ( they brought in the Little Mermaid statue from the origin )

- China Pavilion is a must-see ( restricted no. of ticket is given away everymorning, tried my luck in the

3rd day morning by going early morning 7 plus, wait till they open the gate aroung 8-plus, then queue

again for the secuirty check by 9 a.m. & finally get ticket to visit at specific time-slot after 1.30p.m)

Its best to have a 3 day visit if you have time & plan your itineary first in advance.

Hope you will enjoy your Expo trip & share further.

Will be transiting overnight at Shanghai on 24th Sept (after mid-autumn festival). Anyone know if there is any very cheap accomodation. Just wanna walk around and see ard, try some nice cheap local food. But I do know that gay spa is not alot there. If there is good one, let me know.

If anyone is there, can I bunk in with you? Of coz I will share the cost with you.

Hi seven_9902

Dont bother if u thinking abt visiting pavilions like China, Japan, Saudi Arabia, Korea, Space and other major ones...they are basically 4-6 hours queue.

Worst is the ppl that is queue for it - priliminary the China Chinese - push and shove. They even need police escorts to line the queue..

Me and my friends queued for the UAE one for 1+ hours and there was already fights and pushing until in the end, police escorts were called in to maintain the crowd and still there were pushing...they don't seem to be afraid of anyone...
