They were apologetic when I replied them "Me auntie?" And my reply to them was "Don't worry, you are not the first one & will not be the last one," as I continued the journey. I thought you will be happy when pple call you aunty
Guest concern
You are rotting day by day! Like the verse; when getting older, there is not a need to be reminded wearing a socks! As it may not be needed!
Guest Transition Phase
I saw an elderly man (roughly in his 60s), but looking like 70s, were making a scene in the "Value Dollar Shop" when a young cashier addressed him as "UNCLE". He screamed at the cashier for being rude to him and told everyone that he is still young. He kept challenging the cashier and tried to demean her and even insulted that she (in her 20s) look like old auntie. It was a difficult sight to watch him unrelenting and causing a lot of inconveniences for other customers in the queue. I know a very old uncle tried to call me "uncle" when I was 20 years his junior. People called me "Ah Dee" and all of a sudden, some people will call you "uncle" - intentionally or not. People may not be used to the "transition" stage, in life and not noticing the change in their own appearance in public eyes. The point is, I do feel "offended", but at the same time harmless of those greetings. There is no need to create a scene out of it. Once I was at a barber doing my hair-cut and the Indian barber asked about my age. I kept quiet and he said he guessed I am 70 (but I am 40s). I don't know the reason behind those asking. Very unnecessary and I don't think I look that older than him either, and then he threw me a smug look. I still continue to visit the barber shop, but will avoid him who "tried me". What is your take on the above topic and how do you feel when somone called you "uncle!!!" quite loudly. Can you sense which one is more genuine than the other? Should admit you are old, the moment you transit into you late 30s, and late other people call you whatever they liked?......
Guest Uncress
The proper way to address people is Sir or madam. Not uncle / auntie. Technically, you aren't related. I think those china are more polite. Call people da ger or da jie. Got hawkers call youngsters xiao di. Some value$ staff rude toad.
Guest Rude toad
Then some shopkeepers are rather condescending. Call uncle very loud with a big grin like want to make fun

cutejack
Some ppl r simply ridiculous. I like to be called uncle. I'm in my 40s n just told a 25yo boy to call me uncle but he refused. He said he will only call uncle to someone in 60s as his father is 63now. So what now? I notice that this particular race is very sensitive when called uncle or auntie. I'm definitely not a racist but this is fact. I wonder why too. Who cares. As long I get the respect n not hey or hello. Edited November 22, 2021 by cutejack

fab
Many old non English speakers use uncles /aunties to mean sirs/madams. But there are sarcastic ones too. Once, this hawker about 10 years younger, condescendingly addressed me as uncle, when I took a little longer to order food. 鍾意就好,理佢男定女 never argue with the guests. let them bark all they want. 结缘不结怨 解怨不解缘 After I have said what I wanna say, I don't care what you say. 看穿不说穿

No need to do soul searching, Not the first time he did that to me - always asking about age as if I need to entertain him. Besides I don't really care what he thinks because I am healthier looking. That indian barber is fat bellied, balded and look like 80s. He just wanted to anger me for my smooth complexion. I don't really care what he thinks, he is just not my type. I do notice the trend too, when the service providers felt annoyed by their customers and deliberately say something quite sarcastically.

Guest 60Ucle
Once, I was in a bus to Chinatown. This old men about 80yo was sitting next to me. The bus was almost empty. I was wearing shorts and he caressed my knees asking me,"uncle ah, how you keep such youthful complexion one?" It's not the sexual kind of caress, more like wishful. It was unexpected. He was wrinkly, old man spots, balding hair and scrawny. I was neither turned on nor off by his touching. I was pleasantly surprised. Because of our old age and public space, we don't think it's anything sexual. If it's younger guy being touched, he'll probably cry molest. Me 60+yo uncle if cry molest, others will laugh their head off. I just smile politely and thank him.

There are chabo in their 60s and 70s kena raped by younger str8 men, doesn't mean uncle will be raped or molested by 80yo. I don't feel shiok nor overreact. Unlike some ageists here, look at them also they think we uncles want to molest them. That thread quarreling on Safra open showers, they even think uncles cannot be allowed there.
