Do not worry, your dick-cum-butt is not that obvious. It is only people like us who, comparatively to others, tends to have a tendency to see sexual stuff even in things that did not intend to be sexual, hehehe.

So I would say there is no need to hide that imagery further. It is subtle enough at the present moment.

Hi to those interested to do this:

If any of you are wondering whether the "bW" portion by Anonymous is too obvious showing a dick-cum-butt, some of you can ask some open-minded straight friends to have a look at the "bW" portion of the logo and, without you hinting, see if they can at first glance tell that there is a dick-cum-butt imagery there. I guess more than half of them could not see that on their own initiative at first glance. Dun tell them it is a gay website when you first show them. Just say your friend ask you opinion on this logo and you do not know what that logo is for. I will also ask one or two friends to see if they detect sexual images at first look of the "bW" part.

Thanks for all the support guys. The logo itself is not without flaws, it needed to be finetune few times to achieve a satisfy result.

Perhaps Anon and the rest of u wanna come out with few more options then we make it like a reality show judging where people get to vote their fav on a poll and of cos the mods will have the final say or something like that. That sounds fun.

The grid is there. Just need to fine tune:

The scale/the font size/thickness of the dialogue box &

BW(to make it less sexually suggestive,try cropping/shifting)

Also, the G is floating & 'singled out'. Visually it's separated plus the similarity grouping of another G of 'ORG' somehow got fixated on that particular spot.

Pointed edge of the dialogue could morph with WIND. Try curving it , it would 'flux' the other components.

However, it was created as a joke, i might think its rude to some. I wanted to remain anonymous so that the logo will generate a more honest reviews without biased.

However, CNY is coming and i just cant think of anymore concepts. I just in black on incorporating the wind thing. Someone else have to do it.

However i do have another cleaner version, its not complete thats why it needs your inputs and suggestions.

i love the "joke" logo still. maybe you can clean it up a little, or simplify it to an icon. i just find that it's very witty...

it captures BW as a whole because yes, we discuss about a wide spectrum of topics, but more often than not, sex seems to be one of the most discussed topics and joked about and appearing in most corners of BW.

so when I saw that logo, I thought to myself, how clever. BW is not crude on sex, there's a hint of intelligence when we deal with sex discussions.

it like we can be in our underwear and still be intelligent people. that's what that logo represents to me.

2. I think the design is very Innovative - especially the dialog part that really denotes forum and communication.

However I felt the dick and ass while VERY clever will permanently pigeonhole BW to a sex forum.

I really hope when you think of BW and Gay. It does NOT equal to sex alone. We invite everyone to consider building on the idea above.

3. Since the blowingwind word is already there, whatever is in the dialog box need not be restricted to depiction of bw again. Any bright ideas ?

4. Finally, suggest to drop the (.org). Just like facebook and google logo both do not include .com, I think we can leave out the .org from the logo.

5. On the choice of Helvetica font for the words BlowingWind, I hope some Typography expert can recommend us another san-serif font, something Modern but perhaps more "Rounded".

BW is far from being only a sex forum, and we should find a logo less "figurative"; but Imchaser's design was a fantastic sketch, congrats to him!

And ok for getting rid of " .org".

This being said, I'm unfortunately unable to propose any bright new design, sorry!

The choice of rainbow colors I used here symbolize our PLU community and the dots are the "connecting points" that brought us all together.

I hope you guys like it and do let me know how you feel.. I will sign in later once I have gotten feedback and votes as I don't want people to feel bias toward giving the votes just like imchaser.

Before designing a logo, we must ask a simple question. You want BW to have commercial value or not. If yes, than logo will have to look quite "corporate".

If this is just a homely forum and the intention is to create a warm feeling for gay community, I suggest take a leaf from Michael Angelo and create an Art piece or image that tell Gay story and its root, just like the image of supreme court that tell a purpose or something along that line....

Hi guys, I've decided to give it a try. When I first saw the BW logo, I thought it looked like a "cloud" blowing gusts of wind. I could be wrong...I donno.

This came to my mind

Anyway, I did a little brainstorming, keeping in mind that the new logo needs to be:

simple - the current one obviously has too many things going on

versatile - has to look good in very small and big size, can also be printed effectively on paper/t-shirt etc

appropriate - try to retain some elements from the old logo, could be colour etc.

with these 3 guiding principles, hopefully what turns out would be memorable and timeless

U could design your own stripes (with varying thickness & color, one thick red followed by a thin orange then a medium yellow, etc)

Instead of red,use fusia.

In design, we xplore different creative avenues/styles.Good to have more than one version.

Decide on one for the main logo, the rest keep for other events - like BW 'back to the 70s' masquerade party

I tried to incorporate imchaser's subliminal kinkiness, the form of a speech bubble, the cloud concept that the previous person raised. well, the colour scheme can be simply changed anyway.

I did thought about that option you mentioned but I feel that it shouldn't be too literal. I mean the symbol is already literal. I didn't want to add any more "special effects" to the text but focus on it being clean and simple. The text "Blowing Wind" needs to be legible, professional yet friendly looking, that's why I chose a font with rounded corners.

I agree with you on the festive theme customisation part. I've removed that from my post. It made the logo look cluttered and unprofessional.

1. If I remember correctly, the original BW logo was also done by a reader too.

He was inspired by the HK comic 风云 (literally translated as Wind and Cloud). One of the hero is call Wind. He has a signature hair style of hair floating like the BW logo cloud. That comic was later make into a movie "The Storm Riders". Of course whether the author based his original draft of the logo on the lady of the north, I do NOT know.

The original BW header was done in animated gif.

2. We are trying to make the logo bar smaller so we can show more contents on each page with lesser scrolling.

This is the new trend for "Modern website". Look at Facebook, Digg, Reddit.

The height is 60 pixels (width is flexible) to follow standard web banner height. We try to stick with the industry standard dimension if possible. However if there are compelling reasons, we can relook this constraint.

analogous: i do tend to agree with the need to "blow" on the words. I also hear what you said to that. erm would you consider running two or three negative lines through your logotype "BlowingWind"? they can be parallel or maybe splayed out from the mouth of the cloud?

clickclock: i know i asked for the trunks (thanks thanks!) but now you have lost the ties? could you consider putting one back into the B or b? (think it might work with the holes in the capital B?)

contributor: yours is attractive too but your layout has the meaning of a "wind forum" called "blowing". The blowing and the wind really need to be on the same line or otherwise connected together e.g. by the use of the same colour, font and size.

Personally speaking, I quite like this one.

But keeping up with modern trends, I would vote that the wording be all small letters and not so space-consuming.

Im not very strict with this rule, but i heard a good designer should know that IMPACT a big no no. Cos is the standard choice for office handouts and amateur mailing list items, and it should never be used for a professional logo or public document. Any fonts that came default in Microsoft Words should never be use in logos, i think. And obviously FSS is a pro to be able to come out with that logo, i find it offensive a viewer ask him to use "impact".

Anyway, whatever type of fonts being used, sans or no sans, bold or no bold, caps or no caps.... everything is subjective. Im sure when the designer do the logo, he will experience with various type, size and position until he find it suitable to be publish for viewers first draft. One just dont type and thats it. Im referring to some of the comments on typeface way above.
