There is no fixed rule.

Website on onsen guidelines suggests dipping in each pool for 3-10 minutes.

There are 5 hot pools (Sakura, Jet, Bubble, Silk, Hot) and 1 cold. No need to try all if you don’t want to (most people would, if only to get their money’s worth lol).

 

Generally, listen to your body. If novice, your body will need some time to adjust (but the body adapts well most of the time). 
 

Each pool has a small sign that describes the pool’s temperature & benefits.

if they are really straight, they won't care, unless they have insecurity issues.

The onsen itself is NOT a gay onsen. U wanna do such stuff please do it in a gay sauna. If you wanna get complaints and get the police called it then by all means flash and play all you want. You might not get ugly reactions the first time but keep it up and eventually one day your luck will run out.

It’s not illegal to follow guys around and check them out. Some wanna exchange contacts to keep in touch.
