erection day Posted May 28, 2008 Posted May 28, 2008 (edited) Just saw the news on tv that Tigerairways, in an effort to combat rising fuel costs, will start to charge extra for check in luggage. Depending on the weight the airlines would impose a charge of $20, $25 and $30 for luggage weighing 20kg, 25kg and 30kg, etc. Those luggage below 20kg would cost you $5 to check it in. Airasia has started charging extra for check in luggage (but as much as Tiger). I wonder when Jetstar would follow...?=============================================================================ED, I am creating a separate thread for your post. Hope you do not mind. Lungker Posted May 29, 2008 Posted May 29, 2008 Another reason not to fly with the airline. http://sg.news.yahoo.com/cna/20080528/tap-...05-231650b.htmlThe last time I flew with Tiger was when I went to Thailand for Songkran. The ticket was bought five months back in Decemember 2007. The service as usual was just bearable. However I had an even worse experience flying with them when I returned from Shenzhen in late January. The whole crew had the grumpiest faces I had ever seen! And this is in comparison with the time flew on Aeroflot many years back when the stewardess were twice the size of Asian men. Since january, I promised I would never fly on Tiger again. I intend to keep my promise.I hope Jetstar would not follow. Jetstar, by using Terminal 1, has already a competitive edge. They should stick the knife into Tiger by not following them. 007james77 Posted May 29, 2008 Posted May 29, 2008 I agreed. I must admit I use to fly Tiger very often when I work overseas in initially. I am consider to be really a frequent flyer (at least 3 -4 flights a month). I wasm impressed by their service when they first flight but not now anymore. Their price is getting more expensive each trip and the service standard has dropped drastically. Especially those in Singapore counter. Worst. Well, in a budget airline, I am ok with some delays and etc. but as mentioned earlier by you guys that the service and attitude they give you is just unbearable. Many good ones have left for other airline. In fact, if you calculate all the other charges + meal and flexibiility, the normal airline now is not cost us too much difference. Tiger will charge change of flight or cancellation, delay and worst now in budget terminal which expose yourself to rain and etc. Jetsatr is still ok at the moment. Their staff is still fairly nice and friendly. Hopefully they will remain the standard. Quote
Guest flyer Posted May 29, 2008 Posted May 29, 2008 I flew one time on Tiger and never went back to them. I may be a budget traveller but I am not a cheap traveller. Just look at their budget airport- so bare. Like stepping into a warehouse. Worse when come back, must queue when they everyone's luggage :yuk: Now with the ridiculous luggage charges- I shall give our own budget airline a wide berth. Bye bye, Tiger! Quote
Guest -short time- Posted June 1, 2008 Posted June 1, 2008 Hi, Will be flying tiger for the first time to Bangkok, does Tiger use the aerobridge or do passengers disembark on the tarmac and get transported to the terminal building by bus? Thanks! Quote
Guest pussy cat Posted June 1, 2008 Posted June 1, 2008 Aerobridge or bus??? Neither, I am afraid. Both costs money. As Tiger operates a no-seat booking mode, it means you have to queue up near the exit and walk to your plane, come rain or shine. But plane not far way lah. About 5 mins walk and then some will sprint beause they want to chop the choiced seats. Quote

Hence ,it will be a surprise in future low cost or no frills carrier to charge aerobridge charges. Edited June 6, 2008 by mature30 Quote
Guest -short time- Posted June 6, 2008 Posted June 6, 2008 Hi again, sorry if i wasn't clear in my query, i meant whether tiger uses the aerobridge, etc to disembark passengers in bangkok, not singapore.thanks again for any info. Quote
erection day Posted June 7, 2008 Author Posted June 7, 2008 A news article appears in ST today about how some passengers are getting 'peeved' with Tiger's decision to charge for checked baggage.'Some travellers are calling the new ruling unreasobale and wondering how they will be able to keep to the budget carrier's limit of 7kg for hand baggage. Tiger used to give its customers a 15 kg complimentary baggage allowance, but has cut back to reduce fuel and ground handling costs, the airline said. Now, it costs between $5 and $40 to check in luggage IF YOU NOTIFY THE AIRLINE AT LEAST 72 HOURS BEFORE TAKE-OFF. If not, the charges are higher- $20 for the first 15kg and $12 per kg after that. "It is not fair to penalise us if we predict wrongly the weigh of our supposed luggage," said Mr Shiong. "It will be very restrictive. On holidays, I will not be able to buy more souvenirs for friends.". Others also said that keeping to the 7kg hand luggage limit is going to be a tall order.'- ST Quote
erection day Posted June 17, 2008 Author Posted June 17, 2008 (edited) More bad news for Tiger- delayed flight, upset confused customers, no explanation from airline, etc, in a recent incident in BKK's airport according to The New PaperAn excerpt- 'He thought it odd that his flight details were not flashed onscreen at the check-in counter of Bangkok's Suvarnabhumi International Airport. But since people were still being checked in for Tiger Airways' 8.10pm flight to Spore on Sunday, Mr Seng did not ask questions. But it turned out that flight TR109 was cancelled. Its 180 passengers ended up waiting 28 hours for another flight, at 1am this morning. Upsetting them further was the manner in which they claim Tiger Airway treated them- no airline official spoke to them till the next morning. Mr Tan said "Some passengers were frustrated and yelled 'What is going on?'. It did not help that the Thai staff had communication problems as they spoke limited English.' Eventually, airport staff called out each passenger's name to return their departure cards and boarding passes. All they were told was that the aircraft had a "landing gear" fault, said Mr Tan. Passengers were instructed to return to immigration counters to void their departure chops and reclaim luggage at the arrival hall. It was only when they were taken to buses and vans that they realised it could be an overnight delay.'- The New Paper Edited June 17, 2008 by erection day Quote
