Lead pastor John Martin confessed to stunned churchgoers from the pulpit (AL.com)

The anti-gay pastor of an Alabama Baptist church had a breakdown while in the pulpit and admitted to having an “affair” with an underage boy in front of his entire congregation.

John Martin, the lead pastor of Lighthouse Baptist Church, resigned from his position on June 23 after confessing to what he called “an affair” with an underage boy.

Churchgoers reported his confession to local authorities, who have charged him with four counts of sexual abuse involving a child younger than 16, reports AL.com. He was arrested on felony sex abuse charges on Monday (July 1).

The married father of five had preached about the evils of homosexuality since 2010. The church’s web page states: “We believe that God has commanded that no intimate sexual activity be engaged in outside of a marriage between a man and a woman.

“We believe that any form of homosexuality, lesbianism, bisexuality, bestiality, incest, fornication, adultery, and pornography are sinful perversions of God’s gift of sex. We believe that God disapproves of and forbids any attempt to alter one’s gender by surgery or appearance.”

Martin admitted to stunned churchgoers that he had abused the underage boy on multiple occasions at his home and on a road trip. He also sent the child explicit text messages.

Multiple potential victims in other states

Martin worked in several other states before he joined the Alabama church in 2010, and prosecutors believe more victims may be involved. They are asking for anyone with information to come forward.

“We have identified several potential victims,” said Angie Hamilton, an assistant district attorney in Lauderdale County, Alabama. “We believe other charges are forthcoming.”

After confessing to his congregation, the pastor checked himself into a psychiatric unit and turned over two guns. He is currently being held in the Lauderdale County jail with bail set at $60,000 (£47,700).

If convicted, he faces up to 10 years in prison for each charge and a lifetime on the sex offender registry.

Not unexpected.  He is not the first and won't be the last. Pedophiles and repressed self loathing homosexual against out and proud homosexuals.  It's been happening all over the world for centuries.   It's easy to deflect attention onto others,  to protect and hide themselves from their own guilt, indiscretions and scrutiny by others.

Guest Lawrence Khong's #MeToo

Why are baptist church pastors the most virulently homophobic, hypocritical and immoral around the world?

I bet on my last dollar Lawrence Khong is not only exactly like that, but much much much worse than him in real life.

Waiting for Lawrence to reveal his true color .... It's just not caught yet.

And he is also the leader  ("Apostle") of a Baptist church...

These people have their values all screwed up.  While they may feel uneasy about being attracted to minors,  they are completely horrified and freaked out about their homosexual desires.  All because some persons wrote against homosexuality for who knows what reasons,  thousands of years ago!

Fortunately, progressive laws in ever more countries don't care about homosexuality but severely punish the pedophilia.  They get it right from observation and science, not from fantasies.

OMG, look at his ugly wife. She looks like a fat mother hen 老鸡母。The type that straight men hate the most, give free also they don't want.

If he's straight, how can he tahan her? Unless he's gay and avoid touching her, using purity of spirit as excuse, lol. That's why he's always so angry from the stress of wanting gay sex.

Just like the disgraced Reverend Ted Haggard, who was praised as a great teacher of morality by George W. Bush, until he was caught cheating on his wife with a money boy while smoking meth in a rundown motel room.

What keeps so many people from realizing that money corrupts?

Televangelists, owners of non-denominational churches make millions, have huge wealth.  With all that money, how can they resist reaping the benefits of their wealth?

The owner of the largest non-denominational church in the US,  Joel Osteen, has an estate estimated in 50 million dollars. He lives in my city in a 10 million $$ mansion. His son is also a minister, and will take over one day.   So, why good people give money to these mega businesses?

Traditional denominations are somewhat different.  In my religion, the Vatican has a lot of money.  But it does not belong to the Pope nor any of his dependents.  Catholic priest have to be poor, the same as Buddhist monks.  So why religious people don't stick with a traditional  denomination they like instead of giving money to these mega churches? Wasn't the scandal of the City Harvest Church a sufficiently clear example?

Catholic church have so much money it can probably solve world hunger and homelessness many times over. But instead those Billions (only the lord knows how many) are kept by a few old men living in opulent castles.  All religions are men made, they were created to control the savages in the old days.  Men can exist without religion, but religion will not exist without men.

Well... to solve world huger and homelessness only once over would take trillions of dollars, and no religious organization has that money.

Those old men at the helm of the Catholic church dress in impressive robes and live in opulent buildings,  but if they lose their position (sex scandals, whatever) they should be paupers, or at most middle class guys.  Not so the televangelists.

They may not be able to solve hunger and homelessness around the entire world, but they can certainly fix those problems in many countries, which is a better use of money than buying a never-ending suppply of luxury cars, private jets, expensive clothes, opulent watches, and hidden mistresses! If people really want to prove that they are religious, they should be trying to make the world a better place, or at least as much of the world as they can! This anti-gay pastor who was secretly a gay child molester, by the way, is probably going straight to Hell when he dies, because I highly doubt that he will truly repent for his behaviour, or dedicate the rest of his life to atoning for his crimes!

You can find consolation in this thought.  But then you are falling for the fairy tales pushed by pastors, preachers,  about a punishing God who sends people to "Hell".

It would be nice if people would not believe in so many deceptive professionals of religion and their institutions.  But this world is not perfect, and they get away with it  :(

More like their hypocrisy and karma should result in them -- and only them -- going to the very Hell which they spent their lives threatening upon others.
