Request for HIV test from NCID

Recently I received a call from NCID( national center of infected disease) says that they recommend me for a free HIV test and mention one of their patients have them my contact number. This really shocks me and I don’t know what happen. Wanna check everyone here is you have received the same call before? Thanks very much.

Since is free, go check your blood . Save you the problem of worrying or worse infect other people unknowingly .

It could be that NCID got your number through a Covid-19 contact tracing... or a confiscated phone from some police investigation.

Free test or no free test, prank call or no prank call, it is still good for you to go for a  test, whether or not it is because you want to set your own mind at ease, or this should have been made part of a regular routine for yourself a long time ago already.

I used to donate blood. But I cannot anymore because the Singapore rules say men who have sex with men cannot donate blood. 

 

Even though it's probably a moot point for you by now, I'll share the process anyway.

 

Before they take your blood, you have to answer alot of questions truthfully.  One of the questions asks if you have ever had sex with a man. 

 

After you fill up the question form, a medical doctor will review your answers with you. They may ask you further questions to assess your suitability for donation. The questions can be very personal and very specific.

 

Then they do a prick test on your finger to check if your blood has potent enough to donate. The hemoglobin level. If it's below the stipulated level, you can't donate.

 

If you're good to go, they collect one packet of your blood. During the collection process, they put your blood in three different test tubes to send for testing.

 

Warning: It is a crime to use blood donation to test for HIV. People have gone to jail for doing this.

What tests are done to ensure my blood is safe for patients?

To ensure all patients receive the safest possible blood, the Health Sciences Authority (HSA) screens and processes all donated blood before it is transfused to patients. 

 

Blood component processing 

 

To optimise blood usage and to benefit more patients, every bag of donated blood is processed into different components: 

 

Red Blood Cells: used to treat severe anaemia or during surgery, childbirth 

Platelets: used for dengue fever, leukaemia and cancer patients 

Fresh Frozen Plasma: used to help manage blood clots during bleeding or infection. 

Infectious diseases testing 

 

All donated blood is screened for infectious diseases, including HIV, hepatitis B, hepatitis C, hepatitis E and syphilis. Selected components or units may also be tested for malaria or bacterial contamination. 

 

Blood group testing 

 

This ensures that the donated blood is given to a patient with a compatible blood type. 

 

Antibody screen 

 

This is to ensure that there is no high level of abnormal antibodies in the donated blood that may be harmful to a patient following a transfusion. 

 

Storage of blood products 

 

All blood products must be stored under carefully monitored and controlled temperatures and conditions. This ensures that they are in an optimal state when transfused to patients.

Most likely someone whom you have had sex with is tested positive and he has put down your name as someone he has had sex w recently (or the past 3-6 months’ window). Just my guess …..
