Historically, there was a hospital there (TTSH?) where a lot of patients died due to the poor standard of care in the old days. Plus the former police station there ever executed (by hanging) Japanese war criminals after WW II. That area is overall not good. Feels spooky, even during the day. Really heard many ''stories'' in that old pearl bank building, partly also due to the design of the building, certain part of the building too dark and dim without any sunlight able to shine in. But I’m not exactly rich and just considering a small one bedroom/studio apartment. Seems like Pasir Ris has some really nice and affordable condos (some even with a nice sea view overlooking Pulau Ubin in the distance) but it seems too far off from the city. If your monthly salary can get 2.5-3k and ask your parents to help with 150k down payment. No car loan, no other loan, hold only 1 credit card. Then go ahead to buy. I am not going to forgo other things in life like travelling , a little occasional luxury and most important liquid cash if there is a dire need for it. I think i will never feel as a second class citizen living in HDB. I always advise my friends and staffs about its practicality. Remember in event such as pandemic , one may encounter problems in handling the high bank loans. Practicality is important rather than pure image. By the way a two bedroom condominium at Pasir Ris , according to one of my workers, costs almost a million bucks. Resale is buying from a previous owner after MOP. BTO is buying new directly from HDB. Don’t think there is such a thing call resale BTO. Pay everything up in cash and save the rest as reserves or other form of assets. Honestly, some of the newer 2 room flexi are like 1+study so it's quite decent enough.
