there's no way paige is in the same league as rebecca. she's also too old and her acting never really made it to that level.

yahui belongs to the same era as paige and rebecca, just that she also never made it because her acting is stagnant and wooden most of the time. i would have thought julie tan was the chosen one but then her voice was irritating and her head probably got bigger than her talent.

don't think there was anyone really in the same age bracket that was competition for rebecca. probably also because mediacorp kept using much older actresses to fill in the age gap

Ann Kok is also another actress that deserves BA for her acting over the years. What she is lacking now is a good 女一 and 经典 role. If didn’t remember wrongly, every year  the top 40 was derived based on surveys while the final results was 100% determined by telepoll.

 

Then from 2018 onwards, 50% of the final results was derived from this pool of 1,000, while the other 50% will come from the telepoll and online voting results.

Ever since the voting rules have changed in 2018, we saw many veterans artistes who were nominated over the years but did not win. Some include older artistes who returns to screen after many years. 

Based on results from last two years, it seems like veteran artistes benefits from the rule change. Therefore, we had many surprises like Yin Ji, Pan Ling Ling, Chen Xiu Huan, Hong Hui Fang, and Lina Ng. I believe that they had score pretty well in the survey component.
 

It could also be due to the lower volume in telepoll across the board or that MDC has noticed a trend in the younger artistes garnering higher % in online voting. This might be some of the reasons why the telepoll part was replaced with online voting this year. 

I think MDC’s intention is to make it more competitive as compared to last two years. The last thing I’d believe is that MDC wants to clean up the entire top 10. So if the above is true then we should be expecting some rising new faces and familiar popular actresses not contracted to be win top 10.

With no telepoll voting, the old tactic of ownself vote ownself won't work anymore.

Even their parents can't do much because there are no telephone lines to spam calls.

Eleanor and Tay Ying unlikely to get in because the former isn't well liked by the public since she is viewed as a traitor for changing her surname while the latter, well nobody knows who she is.

 

If they implemented this system earlier, Vivian Lai would never be able to get ten Top 10s.

Non mediacorp artistes can also be nominated  and that includes artistes from overseas. If you remember, Ha Yu was also once nominated for top 10.
