It's just urgency and we don't want to wet ourselves in embarrassment. 

 

A good example is... while on a road trip overseas, the wanting to pee but no way to exit a highway, is not a nice feeling. Using a bottle is the only way.

That happens commonly. I bet those truck drivers who waited in the long queue to cross the causeway will have a bottle w them. 
I have witnessed a driver caught in the jam, came down from his lorry and peed beside his lorry.

okay those who pee in basin obviously don't do area cleaning esp in toilets. that would lead to unremovable stains not to mention the smell too. 

 

and isnt it common for most NS guys to pee anywhere while in field camps? been there done that. even seen drivers on convoy just standing at their respective 3-tonner doorway and shoot out. all it take is one guy and the rest follow suit.

Our bladder cannot distinguish if we are driving or not.  When it is full, it urges to release the urine.  But we can pee into a bag or other container held in one hand, while keep driving with the other.   Or if you are in one of these modern cars like a Tesla that are semi-autonomous,  you can ask the car to keep driving while you are distracted peeing.

Having observed my dog for many years, based on this discussion, I would conclude that he has a kink. He likes peeing on corners of buildings, and on certain trees and shrubs.  He also likes to sniff on the pee of other dogs, especially fresh ones, and on a few occasions at the park, I have caught him sniffing too close as another dog was taking a piss, and he got a golden shower on his face. 

 

The only time my dog pisses properly is during the night on the wee wee pads I lay out for him in the bathroom. 

 

In short, I do think that some men, like my dog, simply enjoys the freedom to take a piss anywhere they like, despite not being a pet.

I can concur. 

Strangely, it only seems to happen in Singapore, Malaysia and Mainland China...

 

Some guys also prefer to pee at the showers. (Even visitors to my apartment). 

It is very annoying and a turn off.

For some saunas where the water flow off is not perfect and you stand ankle deep in water it is disgusting.

 

Really don't know whether parents have not taught these guys or they have the same habit of peeing at such places.

Sure it can be interrupting during the night, but I prefer to get up as it would remind me of hospital stays or when you had a leg injury and were unable to get out of the bed.

 

But on some longer bus trips (luckily they got less nowadays) I had hoped having a standby bottle with me... ha ha

 

I wouldn't have the standby bottle also because, being sleepy and you accidentally won't close it properly but hit the bottle next morning and then... Oh la la.
