For Westerners and non South East Asians I wouldn't recommend hawker centers at the heartlands/ HDB area but food courts in shopping malls.

Mostly the stomach is not used to the local fare at hawker centers.

The food courts at malls are cheap compared to restaurants in Western countries.

Thanks for the tips.

I was born and grown up in Malaysia, and be there 2 weeks before Singapore.

So the food would be fine.

You will be surprised but I didn't travel to Indonesia from 2019 to after Covid in early 2023 (Indonesia restricted foreigners quite long) and bump, first visit my stomach had serious issues. Was just no longer used to the local Indonesian bacteria.

Staying wise, depends on your budget. 100, 200, 300 SGD per night...

Nowadays you need to watch out because some hotel names may be confusing or misleading.

Example: it says Aloft Novotel, but the hotel is closer to Toa Payoh than Novena and actually at Zhongshan ( no MRT) nearby...

Advised to do a proper location check.

I'm visiting Singapore for a few days.  Any recommendation where to stay?

If you have the budget, pan pacific orchard will be something worth checking out. It has an interesting architecture and it’s located in orchard.
