In a sauna or other environment with multiple strangers. The risk of catching something than becomes extremely high. think many people on this forum express fantasies ~ but I suspect they remain as fantasies. Cos if truly acted upon for real, then yes they should be worried about contracting diseases. And if they are NOT, well, maybe they won’t be the type of partner you would want to meet either…. Quote

She found two couples where the man's genitals infected the woman's hand with high-risk HPV, two where her hand infected his genitals, one where her genitals infected his hand, two each where he infected his own hand, and she infected her own hand. Hands were not the main source of transmission in these 25 couples, but they were significant.[112] Quote

Having sexual activities with someone, whether if it's someone you know or a stranger from cruising, is all about risk management. There is no such thing as zero risk. The point I was trying to put across in my previous post is that many are not fully aware of the risks involved. If your base knowledge is shaky from the start, how can you do proper risk management. Sexyass 1 Quote
Clive Posted July 24 Posted July 24 The premise of the OP seems to be that cruising is of higher risk, but that is not necessarily true. Casual Sex Cruising = Casual Sex, that is having sex with a stranger you do not really know. This is not that much different from other forms of casual sex, such as, Meeting on dating apps Meeting at saunas In all these cases, the risks arising from the encounter is uncertain, and one needs to take precautions. Non-Casual Sex For non-casual sex, then it would be with a long-time partner or perhaps friends with benefits. Even then, you cannot control their activities unless you are in an exclusive relationship. So similar risks may still exist Cruising is Generally Intentional In my personal opinion, one generally has to plan to have sex, even if there is a component of chance. Like you need to wash-up and be clean (I hope so...), and if you are bottoming you would want to additionally ensure that you are prepped. So most would cruise prepared, rather than be window shopping and accidentally find themselves up close with cocks in the washroom. Specific STI Risks The main STI risk is HIV as it is a life-long condition (although very controllable with U=U) if infected. The risk with this is anal sex - there isn't any real risk (read as no risk) of HIV transmission with oral sex. So it depends on the type of sex - some people just do oral when they cruise. For more involved penetrations, daily HIV PrEP is highly effective and is more protective than condoms against HIV. People who engage in casual unprotected sex will likely be on HIV PrEP (and I assume this would be the expected standard in the gay community nowadays, otherwise please consider it seriously). The remainder of STIs can be discussion for another day but essentially they are either treatable (syphilis, gonorrhoea, chlamydia), not as consequential (HPV) or inevitable (herpes). Note: Herpes is very common. Quick google search will show that worldwide about 60+% of people under age 50 have oral herpes (HSV-1), more than 20% of people aged 15 to 49 have genital herpes (HSV-2 or HSV-1). It is more of a nuisance, rather than causing any major health threat in a healthy person Sexyass 1 Quote

AskMeNot Posted July 25 Posted July 25 It really depends on what you do. If you only just use your eyes to cruise, then you are very, very safe from STD. Quote

Sorry if i been beating the dead horse. But as a bottom, it’s harder to test and treat these infections as it happens inside our ass…as compared to Top. Hence also the need for regular full screens, if one ever indulges in unprotected sex with a unknown partner. Quote

doncoin Posted July 28 Posted July 28 As I have said before, and I will said it again, if STD is a major concern, then it is best to abstain from sexual contact with another person, and stick to masturbation. Most STD or STIs are treatable. As many have pointed out, the moment you come in close contact with another person, there is always some chance for an infection. If you think you have gotten something, go see a doctor, take the antibiotics, get a follow up blood test done, and you are good. mate69, iKneadyou and funky beaver 2 1 Quote Love.

cbm Posted July 28 Posted July 28 Yes STIs are manageable with a big caveat: this requires you to have ample money to go for regular testing, treatments, medicines, consultation and related items. Some infections are lifelong and you can end up spending a lot of money managing the STI. Quote

doncoin Posted July 31 Posted July 31 So, just for clarity, you have to be HIV- to be on PrEP. If you think logically, if you are on PrEP, and the person you're having sexual contact with is also on PrEP, then chances of a HIV infection is pretty much close to zero. However, it does not rule out the other STIs. Sexyass 1 Quote Love.

Scientifically…. It’s 99.9% effective in protecting the taker of PreP from contracting HIV if taken correctly. and as Doncoin accurately stated: it’s a doctor prescription drug that cannot be given to a user UNLESS the person tests HIV negative. cbm Posted August 5 Posted August 5 (edited) "it is up to the individual to be educated about all of these before proceeding" This is the point I'm trying to put across. You agree that it is up to the individual to know. But the problem is you don't really know or choose not to know. "why would u have the pills if u dont consume them" This is an assumption. It's not assurance. COVID is not HIV. The logic of COVID protection is about vaccines. Take the vaccine, prevent giver from transmitting. There's no vaccines for HIV. Take PrEP, prevent receiver from getting infected. Showing the bottle doesn't prove anything. Please stop doing that. It may give people who don't know any better false beliefs about their safety. Sexyass Posted August 5 Posted August 5 Let me spend some time to explain. If your potential partner shows you his bottle of Prep, couple logical deductions: (1): if for Real: that means (a) he took the time and money to see a doctor, and prove HE is HIV negative. (b) by taking PreP, he cant get HIV from YOU. to the extent that you know his real name, and can match his real name to the bottle, then you at least know, he is HIV negative, and wants to protect himself. (note exclusions of other dieases) (2) If Fake: then means either he gave you fake name, or even for some strange reasons, decide to not use real PreP and use say M&M Candies instead. then yes, in this “he is a psycho scenario” you are fucked. then the question becomes: why arent YOU on PreP ? 💁 (since both Top and Bottom can use) cos why must you depend on your partner taking PreP to protect yourself ? the only 100% sure thing we will all individually know and control for sure is this: - i took a blood test and confirm i am HIV negative - i took the time and money to get a prescription of PreP which i take correctly and thus protect me 99.9% from HIV (but not other STI) - anything else, i need make sure a condom is used. thats it. everything else about the other partner is just speculation. If really depending on someone else to provide the protection: i would strongly suggest you do your checks, and make sure you not dating a psycho who is jumping through all those hoops, just to lie to you about his PreP usage (for some bad reasons which we no need speculate). ie Please protect yourself, and not have your protection being dependant on another. Unless you very sure being in normal relationship with a loving partner etc. Dont rely on others in a random sauna sex scenario if you want to be absolutely sure. Now the opposite is true: if i meet someone who wants to raw breed me, i do inform him of my PreP status and use. I do show him my STI test result. And i will also ask him to show his STI result to me. But its up to him whether someone like me is believable. He may choose NOT to believe me, in which case the default decision is always “use condoms”, which i respect. i cant force others to believe me and put their life in my hands either. So i guess this is a way of saying, both parties need take self responsibility for their health. PreP is one tool among many, just not a wonder drug. Hope the above makes sense. Kimochi 1 Quote
