All the 13 detainees are basically bailed out. None are behind bars except for 2 because of late payment.  Unlike the raid in KL, there's no lawyer representing the detainees here and the police relentlessly press charges against them to meet their KPI. One case when a Chinese national was just peering into the sauna premise was "invited" inside by a plain clothe police only to be arrested. We are going to report and make public this case for the unlawful baiting by the authority.

Those who did not come as volunteer to help missed the opportunity to learn about the legal procedures and get to know some high calibre people. There are heart breaking scenes and we learn about how to handle them. One incident when a young detainee lowered his body to kiss my hand (a malay custom to show respect and humility) broke me down badly.

The money for bailing comes from NGOs, personal contribution and family members. Overall, it's a time well spent to help our people and an invaluable experience I never had before.

I advice to ask all lawyers to check the search warrant. In 99% of cases of such raids the police doesn't have a valid search warrant.

To all guys involved, don't get intimitated.

Those who confessed having sex please retract your confessions claiming that it was made under police pressure and due influence.

Can Volunteers step up and get one lawyer to represent all cases.

Please note that for any conviction you must be caught by the police in the act. If this was not the case defend yourself.

Don't admit anything. At court let your lawyer say that you were coerxed under pressure to confess as they placed charges on you  or threatening to detain you until you confess.

Further also refer to the case of KL, if there is no victim there is no case for 377A.

In my assumption  the actions are all initiated by that Minister for religious Affairs.

He is simply pushing the government to implement harsher laws...

The lawyers went missing in action. Yes, you're right, I learn that the detainees should not plead guilty until a lawyer is found but then their detention will prolong indefinately. For ordinary people like us who have never been detained in a cell, this would mean more trauma and emotional distress. By pleading guilty, however, the detainees will face the charges and that's what the authority wants.

The KL case is better handled because they have lawyers almost immediately.

Now the physical problem is already over but the shame and the emotional trauma will carry on. Volunteers are stepping up to support these guys in every way possible so they could gain back their self confidence.

Hi guys,

A word of caution when using gay apps. You might be chatting with an undercover police on the other end. They might have gained access from the phones they confiscated from the arrested detainees during the raid last November and are using them to bait the gay community. Use your gaydar to detect the authenticity of the person on the other side. Engage in small talk. Please spread the word around and be careful ya.

Been to ss siti abu twice during my time in penang. From what I observed, place is popular with china tourists (mostly female too). Their male masseurs were mature thai men, did not spot any in 20-30s. Both times I went didn’t get their numbers, they were fine with me going nude but gave legit massages, not sensual and def no he.

KUALA LUMPUR: The Malaysian Communications and Multimedia Commission (MCMC) has blocked access to websites such as Grindr and Blued, Communications Minister Datuk Fahmi Fadzil said today.

Fahmi said that MCMC has not received requests to remove these dating apps from app stores.

"However, MCMC is currently studying several legal measures to curb these apps," he said in a written parliamentary reply.

He was responding to Nurul Amin Hamid (PN-Padang Terap), who asked whether MCMC has taken action, in collaboration with app store providers such as Google Play Store and Apple App Store, to block the download of dating apps catering to same-sex relationships, including Grindr, Blued, and Growlr.

Fahmi added that control over apps on platforms such as Google Play and Apple Store is subject to the policies and regulations set by the platform providers, which are foreign companies based outside Malaysia.
