worldangel
Hi guys, It's me again. Try to start a new topic. The question this time is simple, how do you see yourself at retirement? Since my previous posting on the "Anyone in the same boat as me?" I have actually come to think about how would I want to see myself growing old and retire. I think this topic maybe more like a spin off from my previous topic in which it turns out that many of us are lonely and felt alone especially those people who might be in the same boat as me. And since most of us in BW are in middle age. So I just wanted to know how each of us see ourselves when we retired and probably see how individuals plan for their own retirement. Would we want to be doing the same thing that we are doing today e.g. going out clubbing, drinking etc? Or would we be 180 degrees different from what we used to be i.e. become more domesticate, keeping pets, living a quiet life? Thanks.Found this article interesting for those who are preparing for retirement :thumb: --------You're only as old as you feel WHO said that growing older means having to settle for a sedentary lifestyle? On the contrary, healthy over-50s should continue to keep physically active by including aerobic, strength and flexibility exercises as part of their fitness routine, said Dr Jason Chia, a sports physician with the Changi Sports Medicine Centre of Changi General Hospital (CGH). Such exercises are important to counter the physiological effects of ageing. As you grow older, you experience a progressive decline in cardiovascular fitness, a loss of lean muscle mass and a reduction in joint flexibility. Hence, regular aerobic exercise offers benefits. It improves your ability to perform daily activities, and also helps to lower blood pressure, which is a risk factor for stroke. Strength-training and weight-bearing exercises not only maintain muscle mass, but they also aid in slowing down the rate of calcium loss from the bone. In this way, the probability of fractures occurring as a result of osteoporosis is reduced. Dr Chia pointed out: 'The level of activities needs to be tailored to the individual, taking into account the level of physical fitness as well as any concomitant disease.' Mrs Magdalin Cheong, chief dietitian of the dietetic and catering department at CGH, added that 20 to 30 minutes of exercise, two to three times a week, is ideal for maintaining good health. Diet-wise, there are some specific nutrients that you should take note of. For instance, as people in their 50s are more prone to osteoporosis and fractures, calcium is very important in their diet. Good calcium sources include dairy foods such as milk and milk products, ikan bilis, sardines, salmon, fortified bean curd or soya bean milk. Iron is also important because anaemia is common in older people. Excellent sources include offal, red meats and eggs. Foods rich in vitamin C should also be included in the diet to improve iron absorption. You should also take in more fibre to cut down the risk of constipation. This means eating two or more servings of fruit each day. The same goes for vegetables. To make sure you are sufficiently hydrated, drink 1.5 to 2 litres of fluids per day. Mind share Don't neglect your mental well-being, too. Dr Ong Pui Sim, senior consultant of psychological medicine at Changi General Hospital, offered these tips: 1. Learn to accept yourself for who you are, and acknowledge the changes associated with ageing. 2. Do not avoid sharing your feelings with family and friends, because their support is invaluable. 3. Indulge in your hobbies, or pick up new ones. They keep your mind active. 4. Take up leisure activities to help yourself relax. 5. Don't be afraid to learn new things. Dr Ong added: 'Set a goal. We all seek to have a purpose in life. Ask yourself what gives you fulfilment. Make the best of today and prepare for tomorrow. a good oral sex makes your day, a good anal sex makes your "hole weak"

Hence you need to keep yourself look good at all times. You must not only aged gracefully but also handsomely. Maybe consider some form of comestic surgery if necessary! abang
I am 47 and very proud of it.No, I am not a hunk but I go to the gym often, just to keep my weight proportional to the height.Turning older is part and parcel of life and I was young and beautiful then , some twenty years ago.Turning older is NOT a crime, a sin nor is it a stigma.Yes, the double chins and thicker waist are here to stay but older men are like wine, we are better as we mature.By the time I reached 30, I cut down on clubbings and pencil-slim clothes. But that does not mean I am out oftouch of the latest trend... We moved upwards... we are more prudent with our expenditure and not just blindfollowers..A parting shot - I still get scores of young men in their 20s who tried their best to seduce me.... unfortunately I amnot in spring chicken.. What hv I achieve in my life as of now???? why didnt I set my priorities right in the 1st place???? Why didnt I treaure this & tat???? Is my maturity tally with my age & behaviour???Being just fear, will not solve any problem.Everyone will turn old eventually.......if someone laugh at the old ones, he shall be laughed one day ...So, lighten up abit ...juz be yrself ...relax & enjoy every stage of life ..... maybe, you will be happier.Hary- being optimistic is all about exloring everybit of everything in our lives...... you prolly will realise it actually solve at least one of the common problem face by PLUs "STB" (Sperm Thrust Brain)Cheers

eric6363
When I turned 30, I thought that 30-39 would be the best decade I would ever have.I would be in the prime of my life, working in a good job, travelling, etc. Then I turned 40. I embraced it and threw a big party for all my friends. I turned 45 this year. We are about to celebrate our 8th anniversary with my first and only boyfriend, who is slightly younger than me. We have 6 small dogs. We have a house and a condo. We have 2 gardens. Our families know about and accept us. We have a bunch of close friends around our age that we hang out with.We eat durians once in a while. We love Japanese, Korean, Italian and Thai food. We travel a few times a year, to Asian or European cities. We have a huge CD collection, and a smaller DVD collection. We love to watch DVDs on our HD LCD. We bought our first iPods at the end of last year, and have been uploading our CDs.We bought the entire Bjork CD and CD-Single Collection, Live CD Collection and DVD Collection. My bf loves Bjork. SKII keeps the wrinkles away. Moisturizers keep our skins youthful-looking. Life, at 45, has never been better! And we have not even ventured into lipo-suction nor Botox! To address Guest's concerns - it would be a good idea to dress and act your age. I was once in the elevator in Cali Orchard gym, and this middle-age guy was dressed in skin-tight lycra tank top and shorts, and all of his middle-aged body (no - it was not muscular nor toned)was showing. I had to stop myself from laughing out loud.As for money - well, if you ain't got money, you can't stop working. That is why it is important for the younger folks to do financial planning for retirement when young - the younger the better. One of the best shows to watch for money matters is the Suze Orman Show. Oh - and btw, she is a lesbian. Edited June 21, 2008 by eric6363

GachiMuchi
I was 27 and he was in his early 40s and that was the 1st r/ship.The 2nd was with someone 5 years younger when I was at 35. The 3rd was with someone 21 years younger, when I was in 40.Now, approaching 46, my current is 15 yrs my junior. Met him 4 yrs ago at 42.So how does it feel bring in the 40s? It feels great. Then again, I've met some of my ex colleagues / schoolmates whom are around my age and I am glad I age better than them. We should embrace who we are at whatever age and I do agree that we should dress appropriately.I certainly don't want to see an uncle dressing up in designer togs or spandex with dyed hair trying to look young but in actual fact he looks like "lao havoc". http://gachimuchi2008.blogspot.com

abang
talk is easy about managing old age. when come to reality as a old gay is not a easy thing, at times can be lonely.which gay want to look old?I think at my upper 40s, I choose to wear basic colours to 'hide' my protuding stomach.A basic dark blue polo-T-shirt with a pair of bermudas (please cover our knees) works for me most of the time during the weekends. I usually team it up with a pair of comfortable sporty but not loud gym shoes. I believe at our age, yellow and green is too loud. My favourite is mute pink (darker than bandung), basic black and blue. There is absolutely common to obey the law of gravity when we get older .... but I try my best to look fresh, clean and neat at all times. If we must wear slippers, invest in a good quality one... and never wear Japanese slippers (from the Urbanmale shop). They simply look ridiculous on my feet - makes me look more a-pek than I am already is.In addition, dont be too fair.. I look sickly so I do tan a little.Take walks to maintain a healthy lifestyle... if I am too tired to hit the gym.

Guest 50 going on 60
I've well past the ages covered here, I think.Didn't start any plu activity till after 45, so hv got to make the most of what time's left. Am not rich, not even half rich, but with whatever little I've got, I intend to spend as gay a life as I can from now till the end of my days. Not going to worry about how I look, waste of time anyway, or who'll come play/stay with me.Travel as cheaply and as frequently as I can and mostly end up paying for that little "occassion of happiness". I think it'll only get more difficult in this area as time goes on, but I'm not going to waste anymore time. Good luck to all you guys who are younger. Stop worrying and start living! :smokin:

Guest -thaiboyz-
Retire at 85?! Haha no way! Even 55 is abit too late. Definitely if one can afford, 45 to 50 is the best time to retire as there is still energy to travel around and do things which we fancy. Nowadays, with the sophisticated skin care and surgeries, good look can be maintained and body shape can be toned with regularly exercises, so it is possible to look at least ten years younger. Financial management is important at younger age so that we can retire at early age and have spare $$ to keep up our good look.

homelyman
Retire early might be a bad idea if you do not know how to keep active!Fully agreed with the statement. You need to have some plan on what to do during retirement, otherwise it will be a lonely and boring life. If your partner can also retire together with you that will be even better. If you are not sure retirement life is for you, try semi-retirement first, do some part time work or volunteer work to take up some of the time. There are people who retired and after a few months went back to work again because of boredom. The first two years very difficult to pass, you need to adjust your lifestyle and your mindset. After that, you will enjoy your retirement, always keep yourself fit both phyically and mentally. I could say 50 is the best time to retire. thaiboyz
Agreed. There must be a plan after retirement. Cant be sitting at home or lottering at shopping centers day by day. I suggest to try semi-retirement, just get a easy job to pass time. $$ wise should not be a factor for consideration. Work abit and play abit, have a balance life and exercise regularly to keep in shape, make more friends and travel around. Wonderful sweet 50! Edited July 7, 2008 by thaiboyz
