Engage an ID to design the house for you. Your BTO needs to wait for 4 years? Consider a bit long. Thought now they promise most BTO only need to wait around 3 years. Your BTO cluster must be quite big and level quite high, that's why need to wait 4 years.

I am not so rich and don't want an ID as I read that they charge a premium for designing the interior layout. This is where I can gather ideas and choose how to plan the house interior. Hence, decided to start the planning 4 years early to make up for my lack of experience.

Guess my bto cluster is the unlucky lot who didn't get the 3years wait. Can't blame anyone but my luck. I'm a patient man so will take time to research and learn from past owners.

Those people who doing and not doing certain things usually they have budget constraints, so need to give up on doing certain things. If the person has money to spend, usually would do all the things they like to do.

New BTO confirmed need to install curtains or blinds, and remember to draw them up esp at night. As majority of the BTO now is facing another blk living room and bedroom, or some even facing the opposite blk common corridor. Will have risk that people can see directly into your house. I would say the new BTO design lack of privacy.

Yes and no. I've heard from friends about renov regret although they have an ID and high budget so it makes me rethink that I am the one who understand my own needs best and how to effectively make a small 2room beautiful as you know we gay have high standards; not neglecting cosiness & practicality

I will certainly install curtains or blinds for privacy. The lucky part is opposite block is at least 50m away so not easy to see clearly inside the living & bedroom. Oh boy, this suddenly reminded me of an overseas trip where I saw the silhouette of a bold couple fucking opposite the hotel right at the window without drawing the curtains 😳

You can make full use of the 4 years waiting time to take up ID diploma course using Skill Future Credit. Once graduated, you can design your own house layout and engage a contractor to help you futifll the dream.

You are lucky that your flat the opposite blk is at least 50m away. Difficult to find in all the new BTO now. All quite close to each other, during the night when lights are switch on, can see clearly what your opposite neighbour is doing and they also can see what you are doing. So those people who like to be naked in house or want to do something obscene act, must remember to draw your curtain tightly at all times.

Let's say an opposite block of 24 storey with few hundred of residents, if you look carefully, you will see at least a couple of curious eyes gluing towards your house  - regularly - day n night.

If the opposite blk have couple curious eyes gluing towards your house, likewise their house also have couple of curious eyes from your blk gluing their house. If you can see your neighbour house, they also can see yours.

Even those private condo, the design also facing each other blk closely.

Most private condo residents live in an isolated enclave, often with their curtain drawn down, quiet, dark and largely dissappeared from sight.  You speculated who actually even live there if they were not overseas and you also wondered how easy it was for one neighbour to climb over the ledge to their next neighbour, within an arm's distance away.   How close can you get?

Apparently, BTO is inching closer to "private condo" standard which include the short distance between block, long window, hidden dry laundry, smaller kitchen facing your neighbour, and window-less corridors that faces another door of your neighbour, to justify the market price point closer to that of a private apartment.  Choosing BTO also needs skill, not every new penny carries the same denomination.

My actual experience with this condo - Skywoods near the German school, is far from isolated and idyllic. Sure facilities are there and they look good but...

1) Constant gardening and pruning , fogging of mosquitoes. Even lazing by the pool will have lots of workers going around the premises, snipping cutting. Swimming in the pool. Suddenly a cloud of mosquito fog covers the pool.

2) You'll be forgiven if you think you can hideaway in the steam room and sauna for men. Forget it. Workers always coming in to pee. Female janitors coming in to wash with no warning....

3) Going for a quiet walk in the lush greenery? At last a private moment. Then you might encounter condo management patrolling the ground, erm DISCREETLY of course. But discreet enough for you to spot them. Also various parts have tables and chairs for you to sit quietly. Can enjoy 20 minutes, then a worker comes along to empty trash.

4) The gym is probably the safest place from workers as it is housed in transparent glass. But now and then, got some noisy women comen and use.

Am I willing to pay for this. NO.

Thanks for the suggestion, don't have so much time for a diploma course 😅 I will draw out then show contractor instead. Small 48sqm don't have the luxury to design until like 5rm flat

True, I went to my friend's new bto and can see inside the living room quite clearly but no hot guy inside so nothing much to see...

Ikea show rooms are all very small.  You can draw inspirations from there.   Hint: they play with lightings which is crucial for cozy, warmzy feels.  You don't need to design your house, but make sure to install appropirate lightings in strategic locations. A piece of shit placed under a beatuiful table lamp can make a space look beautiful.  You get the drift.

The majority of these neighbors are middle-aged aunties and uncles who live on opposite blocks and have nothing better to do than visually trespass into your bedrooms and living areas.  You're providing them with endless entertainment to kill time, and let's hope you won't become the talk of the neighborhood gossip.

Was flat hunting some time ago.

Was checking out a corridor unit, finished and waited outside the flat for my co hunters. Then a door at the corridor's end opened and out ambled a topless uncle, saggy tits and hanging pot belly. On the pretext of watering the plants, he was trying to see who his new neighbors might be. Enjoyed the "lovely sight"

Aiya, the potbelly uncles only showed up while going about their own business in their own corridor.  Most of the time, you're indoors strolling about nude.  However, how would you do it if your main living rooms/bedroom was oriented toward the opposite BTO block window, where the potbelly uncles would always be standing to peep inside your home?  May be not just him, there is also another pot belly aunties above the uncle's storey, and then another one below the uncle's storey.  You have many "spectators" across your window.   Liddat can meh?

Got one uncle, slim and tall, walked out naked to water the plants. His is a corridor unit next to lift.

Then another family like to place their guests shoes in the middle of a corridor.

Then another aunitie like  to wash her dirty linen in public. Always bring quarrels outside the home into the corridor.

Then another uncle like to sit in boxer shorts with legs up in the table. So when you walk past the unit, you can see the family jewels. No need go JEWEL.

Got another highly strung woman like to scream at her daughter :"you stoopid, ah!?"

You only see them when you need to go out.  Otherwise don't worry so much.   Since there isn't a garbage chute in your kitchen, there's no such luxury in BTO if you keep going outdoors to dispose of your trash. What if, the disposal bin is a 10m walk from your main door?  How, Liddat?  Flush the trash down the toilet bowl, you win liao lor.

Your trash include uneaten food, gravy, juices, rotten fruits, soiled paper, fish bones...etc.  Good for the rat,  lizards, ants and cockroaches to visit your home regularly for buffet.  Remember to clean up your front door after they finished their meals.   Liddat also can.

Never said I prefer BTO

Never said I fight with neighbor.

We all have our own rubbish chutes

So don't assume

Since you are so free, volunteer to clean up your neighborhood, rather than make assumptions here

Still you are free to pick up my trash

1) Do you go hugging the trees at MacRitchie after midnight?

2) Do you go around your neighborhood picking up dog and cat litter voluntarily?

3) Do you stand by the road and inhale the exhaust fumes of passing vehicles?

Nowadays some new BTO blk can have more than 10 units per level, so if your unit is at the end of the corridor from the lift, you might need to walk past at least 7-8 units to reach the lift and rubbish chute.

Anyway,  3 room resale have a 0.1% decline in price in march,  hopefully this decline can continue and at a faster rate.

Decline in 0.1% in price is not a lot.  It means the price has stablised and unlikely to decline any further to avoid property crash now that new BTO are selling at sky rocked price and some people bought HDB above 1 million.  The garment will ensure no major policy to affect further decline in price.

60s and 70s design one level at least 15 units or even 20 units. So the new BTO flats consider lesser. 😂 But i noticed usually if the blk consists of 2 rm and 3 rm, will have more units per level. Only those bigger units only in one blk, it will have lesser units per level. The good thing for new BTO is no units window is facing along the corridor, so even though there are many units per level, at least it would not feel too noisy.

You are right, one level 10 units or more usually have a mixture of 2 rm, 3 rm and 4 rm, that's why one level have 10 units or more. I do not understand why they build so many units per level, waiting for the lift would become a problem.

Since there isn't any light coming in, you can expect the BTO corridors to be stuffy and dark, but some residents still seem to be putting plant pots outside of their dimly lit hallways.  Whereas Garden enthusiasts are able to place their favorite potted plants outside the old HDB corridor where sun, ventilation and wind is in abundance.. in contrast to the BTO enclosed corridor.  According to Feng shui,  main door is vital entrance for wealth and luck,  you don't want it to face walls and other people door.  How?

1. Complaint to HDB and town council but nothing is going to change, just go release your frustration.

2. Paste a picture featuring a pot of gold opposite your main door so everyday the first thing u saw when open your door is gold.

3. Work harder and avoid getting a BTO,  solve the fengshui problem.

Price varies from material, design, sophistication, and who you engaged.  You should do research and get 3 quotations from different vendor.  Look for flyers in your letter box, or Carosell and provide them your front door picture.

Now back to the topic.  What is your HDB look like, inside and outside?

Cannot believe instead of improving the design of the HDB, but they go backward on the design and build BTO with stuffy and dark corridor, each unit facing directly another unit.

Anyway, i think most people do not bother whether their corridor outside is stuffy and dark, since they will be staying inside their house. After closing their door, no need to care what is outside the corridor since they cannot see.

Not every BTO design is so bad. Some BTO do not have stuffy and dark corridor even though there might have many units per level. All depends on each individual BTO project design.

Depends on the size of your wooden door. Old type of HDB flat, price not ex to change, esp if you did not change to fire rated door. For newer BTO, the price would be more ex since the size of the door is bigger and need to change to a fire rated door.

Cannot liddat say.  What if the BTO corridor suddently blackout and you need to walk out to dispose your trash.  Halfway along the corridor, one crazy neighbour give you a jump scare, then how?

Fire proof door is not necessary unless HDB deemed it necessary due to your unit located near to fire hazzard facilities.

Usuallly the corner unit where all the HDB facilities are located especially the centralised gas pipe.  Unless the BTO did not install any gas piping like some HDB estate.

Usuallly the corner unit where all the HDB facilities are located especially the centralised gas pipe.  Unless the BTO did not install any gas piping like some HDB estate.

HDB no gas piping? Cannot be, if no gas piping, then all residents need to use induction cooker or order gas cylinder?

Speaking of induction cooker. Do you guys recommend to install induction cooker or gas cooker in the kitchen?
