Anybody have old sch cakes bakery to recommend? Tried pine gardens the other day at Ang mo Kio, fall short of expectations. 😥😥

Alexandra village used to have one, no frills, truly old sch buttercream cakes. One of the shops facing the hawker center. Don’t have the address but can’t really missed it if you’re there. Cos even the shop looks rather old school ( provided still around, haven’t been there for a while) well if you can’t find the old sch cream cakes, there are still the 2 famous soon kuay / angkhoo shop/stalls. Or the Kuih Kuih made by Indonesian aunties. Actually quite a bit of treasured gems if you care to visit that quite spot. 🤫

I'm a pastry chef so I know the amount of effort and skills it takes to make pastries, cakes etc. Beyond paying for the cost of ingredients, you're paying for the craftsmanship that goes behind the product, the rental of the shop, the experience of diningnin and all the other costs that goes behind running that business. People often just see what's in front of them and are quick to say "oh man that's rather pricey" but if you look further you might just realise why it is so. 

 

 

 

 

I fully agree with you,  as I'm a hobby baker during the Festive Seasons or special occasions. 

I've just increased my Christmas Rich Fruit Cake prices by only $3, and some long time customers are making a big fuss over it..  gosh!
