Sorry just curious, I can’t see the profile pic from Grindr app when I’m in JB, Malaysia. Is there any recommendation for VPN or how to solve this?

As to my knowledge Grindr is not blocked in Malaysia.

But I know your issue.

Grindr is very extreme in loading the app, meaning it takes quite a while until all functions are fully loaded for use.

If the profiles are not visible then there is a connection issue with Grindr, it can't read your location.

May I assume that you use only 4G?

What you can do is the following:

1) First, after opening the Grindr in JB, go to the Location button and switch it off. Switch it on again after 5 - 10 seconds,

thereafter close Grindr and reopen it.

2) If it didn't help the next step would be:

Fully shut down your phone (Switch off not restart), restart your phone after it has fully shut down.

Open Grindr, do the step under 1) , close Grindr, reopen it.

Any VPN will slow down the opening of Grindr therefore I would recommend to you not to use any VPN in Malaysia.

However, depending where you log into the wifi, I have experienced hotels or places in Malaysia that provide wifi networks with blocking functions on certain apps or has filters (like you can't open Blowing Wind there). Some shopping malls in Singapore do the same and don't allow certain apps as they need too many resources on their wifi.

Moderators may move the query and my reply to the Technical help thread.

The wifi maybe was too slow also (like just some MB allowance) that is too little to run Grindr. Profile pics would not be visible.

Recently there is this surge of the fake scam boys on Grindr.

I am getting 5 - 10 approaches the day from these scammers who "search friends and relationships".

Ads are getting more and more annoying also...

The latest is that once you intend to reply to a message, it will be directly blocked by an ad that you need to watch first.

On Grindr, if good looking guy with face photos message me wanting to get to know me, I block immediately. They're scammers.

-real people (non-scammers) won't show face

-real people don't want to know me. They want to play adult fun

-good looking guys won't message me

Idk why but grindr has this feature that shows certain albums of people who you have previously spoken to but already closed their album??? Which is kinda scary no doubt. So there was this guy, that I dont remember speaking to before. I just texted saying, grindr was revealing a photo from his album and just thought I should let him know. It wasnt a facepic, more of a dickpic LOL and a nice one at that (his 3 other pics were face pics). He just instantly blocked me after that. 🤣

share two recent hookups i have via grindr.

1. i was all prepared to head down to key box, but checked G before i reached my carpark and got messages from a guy who stay nearby. Decided to meet this guy instead, i mean if i can have my fun nearby then i no need travel 30min to kb, lol. Once in this guy’s room he was very into rimming. it was good except when it comes to the main fun, he was just inside grinding rather than in and out motion. He was at it for over an hour and i moaned until my mouth was dry, but the grinding just wasn’t doing it for me. When he finally done, afterwards i just went home to jo instead.

2. Was actually weekday lunch hour, i decided to have a quick lunch and see if on G anyone wanted a quick bj. Found someone who could host and was quite nearby so i head over to his place. Blew him for a while, could tell he was enjoying, then he asked if i wanna get F. I told him since its work day and after lunch so i wasn’t cleaned or prepared, but he obviously too damn horny and i didn’t say no. We f for a few minutes, he came and even though i was saving up mine for night time but end up i also came while he was still in me.

How two experiences can last differently but the enjoyment is irrelevant to how long the session lasts.

I’m real and I have my face pics on my profile. :)

I just thought about this based on what you said about good looking guys: it seems to suggest there are no good lookers in Singapore. 😛

This is in the context of apps. There are 3 conditions. You don't initiate chats saying things like you're looking for a relationship or you want to make friends, right off the bat, do you?

The scammers aren't from Singapore anyway.

There are good looking people in Singapore, of course. 😋

Yup, face pics on the apps.

But yes, I don’t say things like I’m looking for “genuine and sincere” friends/a relationship, and immediately ask to move to WhatsApp. Those are the dodgy ones for sure.

Not sure whether it was a technical glitch but I had experienced the same issue.

When someone added a picture into their private album, which was opened to me previously, I got an info on this. Mostly it was nudes.

You should have just silently enjoyed the new album pics and keep silent. haha

Probably, you didn't do an update of the app, because now I don't get such notifications any longer.

Was for subscribed accounts I guess but accidentally due to the glitch worked for other non subscriber accounts also for a while.

Not all people having face pics on their apps are scammers.

I got my face pic on the app visible and don't mind sending more during a chat.

The scammers are all have pictures with a high fortune life style or pics showing them in such scenarios.

I noted that their age mostly ranges from 35 to 45y and best to spot them is that they directly tell you they are only looking for friends and relationships. (Same mostly mentioned in their profile). 90% of them are from a North Eastern bigger country with a huge population but recently I also get such approaches from white guys. (eventually fake).

To catch them, do a video call.

But watch out, some scammers will ask a good looking guy at the scam center to answer the call.

Do most of you actually willing to pay unlock the extra function?

No...

But looking at Grindr every day, I think in 2 years we might not have any choice any longer...

Now taps are blocked from opening the profiles after a certain time.

The whole free non subscription policy of grindr nowadays is: Annoy you as much as you can...

I see. I set up an account earlier this year and was paying the monthly subscription just to explore the functions. End up unsubscribing as I feel its too ex.

Nope. It's not worth the cost. Apparently they have different pricing based on country.

Grindr just came out a new function to grind our money right now. Subscribed to XTRA though but doesn't feel any benefits, still need to subscribe to UNLIMITED then can have privileges, but getting more and more expensive.

How much you pay for XTRA?

If a guy seems extremely handsome and you find him on dating apps like Grindr, but he constantly makes excuses when you try to meet up—and his profile photos show an overly glamorous or extravagant lifestyle, especially with backgrounds that don't look local—there’s a good chance he might be a scammer. Just be cautious and trust your instincts.

What excuses does he do?

Mostly these scammers will start asking at early stage for your phone no, whatsapp, tele etc.

Due to violation of Grindr terms they would avoid coming up with their scam on grindr but intend to contact you at your whatsapp

/ telegram etc.

Check their location knowledge . If they are unaware of certain places, then it should hint to a scammer. You can trick them by giving a wrong location detail like you're at IKEA Novena , when there is none and locals would know...

Not just that. Those without chatting much right from the beginning, w nice bod say looking for friend and serious relationship. Scammer also. Some don't even bother to see what you reply. They just say what they want to say, cos it's all scripted. Now some don't even show face already (anyway, show face also either fake or forever won't meet) just show a nice sexy bod and say look for sincere friend and partner.

I guess since recently  the BM boys* have reached Singapore on Grindr.

The past 5 days I received so many "dick pic " requests. they bump up after the "hi" and guys trying to pressurise you in sending your nudes.

It was too obvious for me and looking at the profiles, I assumed they are fake profiles and scammers, most of them placed tops on their profile, made it less persuasive asking for dick pics.

Once you rejected in sending anything they gave up.

But somehow I had a feeling these guys were switching profiles and trying again under a different profile.

Be careful!

For me it was on the non paid GR version. It must have been a tech glitch.

I assume the notification on updating on Album pics is only for paid GR subscribers.

There is another tech glitch on GR recently.

When you open a profile, for a few seconds it will display the age *(for users who don't disclose the age). It is just like 3 - 5 seconds until the age display on the profile will disappear.

What I find very annoying recently is, that on Grindr since some updates last year the message thread will need to load first. meaning initially it will load the profiles, but when you change to messages it will start loading again.

On my version the loading of messages is often unsuccessful.

this loading starts also for Taps and the visitor section...

In most cases you need to shut down the app, restart it and after the profiles nearby being loaded quickly need to switch to messages to being able to read them. Otherwise or often it won't load the messages or the loading takes a long time.

I also fail to understand why now the Taps are no longer visible after like 10 mins.

New is this "Right Now" button. While I thought most use Grindr for some more or less "instant" meet up, not sure what this "Right Now" adds on.

Grindr would have made more money if users need to pay to block people. 🤑
