thickhead79
The government will extend the requirement of medical certificates and health insurance to cover all visitors to the country regardless of nationalities to curb the spread of the coronavirus, Prime Minister Prayut Chan-o-cha said on Thursday. Thailand reported 60 new coronavirus cases, the biggest daily jump in the number of cases so far to take its total infections to 272, the Public Health Ministry said on Thursday. Travellers to Thailand have to now show authorities a health certificate, issued no more than 72 hours before travelling, confirming that they have been tested and are free from the virus. They must also present an insurance policy showing minimum coverage for coronavirus of not less than US$100,000. This measure was previously a requirement for places the government classified as "disease infected zones" — China, South Korea, Hong Kong, Macau, Italy and Iran. thickhead79
The government is campaigning for people to stay at home to help reduce the spread of Covid-19. Government spokesperson Narumon Pinyosinwat said on Friday Prime Minister Prayut Chan-o-cha has asked for cooperation, especially from those living in Bangkok and adjacent provinces, to refrain from going out. As for calls by some people for lockdowns, the spokesperson said measures must be prepared well before time, and those people who earn daily incomes must also be considered. "The prime minister has asked people to stay home. In this period, we would like Thai people to stay at home. Before we make the order, we are now asking for cooperation. After this, the situation will be evaluated if we don't receive cooperation," she said adding that there are options to consider such as what times or how many hours people could be barred from going out. The doctors said that, using mathematical model calculations, maintaining the current measures would see up to 351,948 Covid-19 patients in Thailand while more than 52,000 would be hospitalised with over 17,000 in intensive care and 7,000 deaths. thickhead79
BANGKOK: Confusion over Thailand's new coronavirus curbs left travellers scrambling on Friday (Mar 20) as Thai citizens queued at embassies abroad to get special travel papers and foreigners faced the challenge of producing a negative test for the disease. Testing kits are limited in most countries, especially to people who appear healthy - meaning the Thai rules amount to a de facto ban on all foreigners. The Thai version of the CAAT order said foreign passengers needed a certificate showing "a test confirming they did not have the COVID-19" while the English version said the document need only say passengers “pose no risk of being infected”. By Friday afternoon, both the aviation authority and the health ministry confirmed that a negative test was needed for foreign travellers. Guest Omg
Just seen CNA's in conversation with Thailand's Health Minister. Omg, the minister is in self denial.. He boasted the numbers infected are low due to their measures.. When questioned that the numbers may be under reported, he defended he was not accountable for the numbers cos the counting was not done by him!!! The doctors did the counting and Thailand is no.6 in providing health care services to its people. WTH !! Hope the situation in Thailand will not escalate due to its incompetent government! thickhead79
The Civil Aviation Authority of Thailand (CAAT) has approved airlines' decisions to scale back flights or stop flying altogether due to the Covid-19 outbreak, but told carriers to compensate customers. Chula Sukmanop, CAAT director-general, said the approval was given after the authority met Thai carriers on Tuesday, namely Thai Airways International (THAI), Bangkok Airways, Thai AirAsia, Thai AirAsia X, Thai Lion Air, Nok Air, Nok Scoot and Thai Vietjet Air. The airlines said the outbreak was responsible for a steep plunge in passenger numbers nationwide. Mr Chula said the CAAT had predicted at the start that a pandemic would bring tremendous losses to the airline industry. Back then, the agency estimated that almost 10,000 flights around the country would be suspended, leaving a void of more than 3 million passengers in the first quarter. thickhead79
Thailand has banned the entry of foreigners and the government may impose a 24-hour curfew as its next step to tackle the spread of Covid-19 under the Emergency Decree which goes into effect on Thursday. Prime Minister Prayut Chan-o-cha announced on Wednesday the country would be under a state of emergency as of Thursday until April 30, as Thailand reaches a turning point in its battle with Covid-19 transmissions. The armed forces will set up checkpoints across the country under the Emergency Decree and 16 first-level instructions have been issued following the prime minister's national address. A curfew is not imposed at this level. However, Deputy Prime Minister Wissanu Krea-ngam, who oversees legal affairs, said a curfew might be imposed later if considered necessary. "If a curfew is imposed, it will be without warning, so people will panic and buy up food and basic necessities," he said. He added that if the government does go ahead with imposing a curfew to curb the spread of Covid-19, the order will be different from previous curfews which were only imposed at night to maintain peace and order. The ban is expected to run for a month from 30 March-30 April to prevent the spread of COVID-19. The only exceptions by land are trucks transporting goods, emergency vehicles, and people on official duty. By sea, only freighters allowed to dock but crew must not go ashore.
