Those NEA people are super annoying. Come to my unit very often, now is every fortnight, to check for mosquitoes. Yesterday, I declined and said they always select our unit. Then tonite they sent another fella. These people got nothing better to do or what?

No wonder my neighbors NEVER open door for them. I think they pick us because our front door is always open, for the breeze.

I encountered similar situation.  The same Malay Tundung lady who never failed knocking at our door fortnightly, just because the corner unit neighbour didn't want to open the door after seeing thru the peephole that it was NEA officer.  I told the Malay Tundung lady about the nuisance and she dare not come again. They like to bully elderly residents, and when I am around, I will not hesitate to give this NEA regulars a piece of my mind.   Whereas Malay man or Chinese lady not so back, they came once, recorded their visit and never seen again.

I thought the NEA mozzie guys/gals can rightfully enter your flat to take a look.

Does anyone know?

But it is the same with the Department of Statistics for companies. Once you respond they will send you the questionnaire every year. "Randomly" selected. I laugh about it.

I wrote to them once, that the company cannot be randomly selected if you ask for the same statistic questionnaire 6 years in a row and just refused to reply to it. I guess they have a list with "easygoing/ willing" responders. With 400,000 companies registered in Singapore how can one company be selected every year?

You can reject. They need your consent to enter the home!

Our officers will identify themselves with their NEA Authority Card and explain the purpose of their visit.

They will only enter your homes or premises with your consent and accompaniment.

Strangely, they never ask if you allow them to enter and take it for granted or make it look as if they can just enter your flat...

Do your homework guys. Do you think they really want to visit your home for fun?

I kena dengue before and i can tell you the few days leading up to the peak of the fever is not fun.

And one to two weeks after you recover, you will feel generally weak and tired everyday.

Up till now I still dunno where and how I got bitten. Be glad that the authorities are doing something rather than some other countries where their govt dun give a shat.

Their shoes is to check mozzies.  Otherwise, is called "eat snake" not doing a good job.   Environmental Agencies staff are trained in all kind of environment, and should not be picky.  Otherwise, better quit and let a real talent do their job.  Liddat cannot meh?

I did tell him so about the constant visits. Although he wasn't happy, he remained polite.

Declined and then they came back next evening. Very persistent.  Bang door, not even knock politely.  So I gave them some feedback.

This MOM also has been calling my house number, my mum's hanphone and once they even showed up on our doorstep asking us to do survey. These people don't take no for an answer very well.

It was like bringing a dog home and then fed them with only potato chips.

Guest Ang Moh

The mozzie police can even be persistent with Ang Mohs in condos (and we are not any dengue hot spot). I just left my flat in the morning around 8.30am one of the days when two of the officers stood on the stairs, my door bell doesn't work. I usually walk down the stairs, passed by and one of the guys a Malay 50s man asked me if I stay in the flat. They aren't used to Ang Moh replies, as I said : No! And just continued walking down. But then the guys were very persistent, my neighbor told me they came again in the late afternoon around 5.45pm, waiting for me at least one hour. And guess what, next morning, they were waiting in front of my house again.

Actually, it seems not consistent to issue fines to people, when they find some "breaches" when they are only allowed into the flat with the permission of the owner. They never asked whether they can go in but seem to trespass into the house once you open the door and take your permission for granted. I never heard them asking for permission to enter the flat...  But so they never were inside the flat or mostly nobody is at home when they make their rounds. I just hear from the neighbors if they had been visiting the condo...

Didn't buy the plant in the end becos it might attract too many insects.  Bought orchids instead as they are cheaper!

If the NEA Inspector is a hunk, you’ll want him to come to your unit more often.

Anyone knows for HDB, if they inspect one block, will every unit be checked or they just sample check? I intend not to open door. From what I know, they will paste a notice on the front door to inform you to contact them to arrange for a date, But if we still continue to ignore, what will happen? Will they really get locksmith to come in and break into the home? This is very intrusive.

I wonder whether they perform inspections on condo units. I don't think foreigners are so co-operative, especially ang mos.

They will go check at every unit. Just cooperate with them, it is also for your own good. Dengue is something we should not take it lightly, esp if the cases in your area is high.

That’s because the dengue cases are sky rocketing. They are just doing their job like you doing your job.
They are also hoping to catch those stubborn people who are breeding mozzie at home with/without knowing it and still act righteous of not answering the door.

They have quota to meet.  The knock on those easier to check, like residents staying along corridors with windows or doors opened.  Corner units with door closed  usually get away from being checked.  Saw an NEA officer knocking on my corner unit neighbour, he/she waited several minutes for the door to open but "no one" around.  After the NEA officer left, an hour later, my nieghbour opened their door to water their plants.   It happened regularly.   Whereas we kena checked a few times a month until my brother asked the NEA if they have quota to meet for targetting our family.

They're just doing their job lah.

If you were them, you would be posting the following thread on BW:

"Ungrateful residents refuse to open their door for me to check their home for mozzies".

So morale of the story is not to stay in corridor unit but die die also must stay in corner unit?

zhun or not? Can I ask did this happen recently or many years ago? Last year they change the law to make it compulsory for owners to allow them access to check.

And before they left, did they stick a notice on your corner neighbour's door to ask them to contact NEA to arrange for a date for checking?

I prefer NEA officers who are male. Allowing a Malay female NEA to check for mozzies has not been a pleasant experience for me. They irritate me greatly. A Malay female officer once ordered that my mother empty our Buddhist altar so that she might inspect a small jar of bloated water jelly pearls. Which obnoxious mosquito would dare to put eggs in there without getting suffocated? She also came to see us a few times in a month without providing any justification.
