Well, Singaporeans voted for it... And with the recent WP's saga, I can see why..

 rightfully so..

With the recent saga, I can also see what the phrase "absolute power corrupt" means, and how some IB is already hard at work now.

Nobody is clapping over the covid deaths. We are just accepting it the way it is as we have done all can. But of course if some feel it's not enough and fear dearly for their lives, well by all means go find ways to smuggle yourself into China or HK, or be refugees in those countries.. dun  worry the PRC will protect you with their covid zero policies.. Or you can camp yourself in Singapore's offshore islands and live there as hermits for all we care.

Actually, since you love the government policies so much and you are such a big supporter, why shouldn't you be the one to go ahead and smuggle yourself into India instead.. Wouldn't that be a double win for you? First you can have all the covid exposures you can possibly ever want. And you might even earn money from that CECA arrangement. So why not? .. Go there and live there as freely as possible for all we care.

Actually, what is hilarious is how the incumbent party did not believe the words of an WP MP in Parliament, but yet chose not to believe the words of the very same liar when it came to some spin stories she had of WP. But what's new huh? "Hear only the good stuff"? Hahaha.

And the best part is this: they don't even know they have again scored for the opposition a self-goal each time they try to "fix" the opposition, just like how they did that when they spent days after days debating the "benefits" of the CECA arrangement in Parliament, and that was even during the COVID pandemic amidst worries about local employment rate, together with a final ending of "Raffles is a lousy school" statement caught on hot mic. I really have no clue how anyone else can lose 3x in 2 battles.

What's real tragic is how the supporters of the incumbent party still believe everything that the party says, including the "benefits" of re-opening the economy so wide. LOL!

Well... Weren't you the one who wanted even more COVID-exposure and more money? In that case, wouldn't you be even happier to move to India with all the CECA arrangement and restriction-free COVID environment?  And yet, you are the one who asked others to "go find ways to smuggle yourself into China or HK"? So who is the hypocrite now?

Here's a tip for those who have past their 7 days quarantine but still tested positive. Try using a nasal & sinus wash to flush out all the remaining mucus in nose until it is clear & retake your ART test. Two colleagues of mine did that & tested negative after.

We should not give irresponsible advice on BW.

If those still tested positive after 7 days, then their infections seems stronger.

If you want to cheat, can stick the swab into your anus and do the test... (joking)

Those tested positive should stay at home and be sincere. What is the point of infecting other (eventually vulnerable ) people in the community or at your work, who then are dead because of other people's reckless behaviour.

Please let's be a little bit more responsible!

Infections are rife in the community, and there aren't sufficient controls on this spread. While I am not suggesting a lockdown, I am pointing to the fact that ART can take up to a week before showing a positive. That means that a person who is showing symptoms of COVID, does not need to shelter, and could be spreading it in the community.

Also, besides those who are mandated with tests (due to workplace requirements or HRW), self-testing is totally voluntary. As long as you don't test, you don't know if you have COVID, even if you have symptoms. And there are people in the community who refuse to do ART self-tests, even when they show symptoms.

Now that new protocols say that you need not report your COVID infection to MOH, but just isolate until you are ART-negative, I am sure the actual number of daily infections is much higher than is reported in the news media and on the MOH website.

There are also people "teaching" others how to "cheat" the ART. This sort of action is irresponsible, and will not help to control the pandemic. Yes, the current variant seems less virulent than previous ones, but that does not mean that no one dies from it. And it definitely does not mean that this is the way that the virus is always going to mutate. Only time will tell if the virus will mutate further into a form that is both infectious and virulent.

Spike in Hong Kong? Singapore do not even need to "spike" for more than a week to get to the level of where Hong Kong got to since the beginning of the pandemic, even after the supposed Hong Kong's "spike". What a choice of words used by ST! But of course, when you are paid almost $180 million each year by the government, I guess you are expected to sing the praise of your paymaster while talking down to people who are doing better than you. And you can take umbrage at my words for all that I care.

"Hong Kong's strict pandemic policies have limited coronavirus infections to around 40,000, with 259 deaths - far fewer than in other major cities. Asian financial rival Singapore, with 5.7 million people, has reported more than half a million cases and some 900 deaths."

Yeah, right. As if allowing the spread of the virus throughout the community to kill the singapore population is such a wonderful idea? The "light" at the end of the tunnel for Singaporeans is how Singaporeans die of covid and see the "light"?

Look at how every single media is no longer even reporting how Singapore is getting the covid control "right" anymore. Remember how our contact teaching was "good standard"? Yes, Singapore definitely went from covid-hero to covid-zero there! Lol..

SG will show the world how to live with covid,  that is when every possible sporean get infected and recovered,  then there is no need to fear covid anymore. Close to 20,000 cases daily, will need about 6 month to achieve that and then mask free by Aug, that is if there is no new variant.

You mean propaganda such as vaccination gives you "superpowers"?

They are already in the next phase where they highlight how other countries are doing badly despite their zero-covid policies. In other words, they have started bashing down other countries just to make themselves look good.

Absolutely, they have been focusing on the recent HK spike, unfortunately HK became a "excellent" target for them to attack on but they dont really dare to mention much about taiwan which amazingly, are able to control the spread of omicron till now.

Yeah, the local government is using all sorts of methods to "normalise" COVID as an endemic viral infection. From the home recovery, to the current rule where you don't even need to report your own COVID infection, but just recover at home and isolate till you get a ART-negative result. I do wonder if this dropping of the reporting requirement is to "lower the apparent new cases"?

Yet, the ferrying of primary school students to vaccination centres carries a different tale. Cases are rising in the community and in the schools.

With about 15k daily cases, and at least a 72 hour quarantine for those testing positive, it means that am average of 45k individuals are being taken out of circulation each day. They have already mentioned that the bus services have been impacted. I wonder what is next?

Do note that PCR Test Positivity Rate is going up quite alarmingly.

No Positivity Rates for ART though, which I think would be more telling, since this is becoming the main method of detecting COVID infections in the community.

Finance Minister gave a number during Budget speech what they spent on Covid.

Again they tap into the reserves.

Covid causes too much public cost.

Most budgets before 2020 already hadn't been effectively balanced. Unless you're Argentina but no reliable government can go on spending more than collecting by tax.

Covid created another hefty toll on government spending.

Get ready for more revenue increases in the next years budget......

Smart people would compare the GST increased revenue collected with the "assistance" to Singaporean households ... if you still don't get the point.

Therefore, the approach on Covid has shifted as 2000 people per month hospitalised seems cheaper than strangulating businesses on covid regulations resulting in less revenue for businesses and government.

I am just realistic here...

Nurses and volunteers wanted amid healthcare manpower shortage as Covid-19 cases surge

Didn't someone says he will only call for the CBs to be reinstated when the hospitals are overwhelmed? Now, MOH is already going around begging for nurses and volunteers already, is this not considered "overwhelmed"??

It doesn't take much intelligence for anyone to see that such capacities at the hospitals will be an issue. Time and again, this issue has surfaced all over the world, from China to India and even USA. And yet, we still want to go open up the economy and "live with COVID" under the false pretense that the Omicron is "mild" and it will not cause fatalities.

And someone here even further tried to wash down the seriousness by telling people it is "just like the flu".

Look at the situation now. Where is that Guest Wtf now? Is he even going to the hospitals to volunteer himself at all?  Or is he still going around to tell people to open the economy bigger and further so that he can earn his own money? Those guys who has been pushing for the further opening of the economy really should be put in a line straight into Hell.

The fact that MOH are asking for more manpower to support Covid operations is very telling. To help ease the burden, some form of restrictions such as reduction in VTL quota and disallowing dine-in are needed for say 6-9months to stabilise the cases.

Seems like govt does not see it this way. So far they still think healthcare can manage the situation well? HAHA.

Just a quick question to ask, since now the omicron is quite infectious and many people are tested positive. It is still safe to go for dental procedure since it is done with mask off and in an enclosed area?

This fiasco really goes to prove that the policy makers really have no clue what is happening in their own Ministry, as it had been so for decades.

If you need to go, you just need to go. There is a risk of COVID everywhere. But even at the height of Singapore lockdown, emergency dental procedures, especially if the patient is in pain, are still available on requests even at the polyclinics.

Not safe but if is a urgent case,  no choice but to go,  if is a normal check up and cleaning, can defer. Likewise with massage and especially facial, the risk outweight the benefits.

Reality check:

Consider that the dentist and assistant will be masked (maybe double masked) along with goggles or face shield and you will probably be asked to wear goggles. If anyone is more at risk, it is the dentist as they are going to be working with your open mouth.

covid can’t come above all other health concerns - oral health and hygiene is important too. Not sure why someone in their response  is equating a dental procedure with a facial….

And please remember that even if you do catch covid, despite all the panicking on this thread, 99.7% of cases have mild or no symptoms (probably even less than this now, when you consider that not all positive cases are being recorded).

Omicron  Sub-Variant  BA.2  Reportedly  Spreading  Fast  &  Could  be  Deadlier

for anyone panicking at the headline, please read the whole article. It concludes:

“BA.2 May Not End Up Causing More Serious Waves of Infections

Research has shown that antibodies in the blood of people who were recently infected with Omicron seemed to have some protection against BA.2. The protection was even more if they have been vaccinated.

So even though the virus is mutating, the would-be hosts, AKA our bodies, are also developing stronger immune systems. This might mitigate the more serious nature of BA.2”

You don't always need to come out to judge down or play down Covid variant omicron.

There are other articles that point to different scenarios or early scientific more alarming news.

It is much too early to make a judgment on this new Omicron BA.2 sub variant as it just emerged .

Please note that your above point you stressed referred only to people who had already been infected with Omicron. this doesn't apply to 98% of Singapore's population.

Those people who had not suffered any Omicron infection do not have such antibodies.

Let's keep with science and on facts.

Wanted to post on it yesterday but went to bed early, so you "got ahead" on reporting this new Omicron sub-variant" .

BA.2 Omicron Variant Spreading Rapidly, Even as Global Cases and Deaths Fall

This new COVID-19 subvariant is prevalent in 10 countries — and is more transmissible.

  reviewed: February 18, 2022

As the Center for Infectious Disease Research and Policy (CIDRAP) reported on Wednesday, the World Health Organization (WHO) released a new report this week showing that the omicron subvariant BA.2 now accounts for more than 1 in 5 new coronavirus infections detected worldwide, and the variant is rising both in countries where cases are increasing and declining.

As the American Medical Association explains, the BA.2 variant is sometimes referred to as “stealth” omicron because it has genetic mutations that could make it harder to distinguish from the delta variant using PCR tests, as compared to the original version of omicron.

BA.2 is now prevalent in 10 countries: Bangladesh, Brunei, China, Denmark, Guam, India, Montenegro, Nepal, Pakistan, and the Philippines. The WHO says that early evidence indicates that the variant is more transmissible, but at this point there is no evidence that BA.2 is more harmful, and vaccines seem to be just as effective against it as they are against the original omicron strain.

New research suggests that BA.2 may have features that make it as capable of causing serious illness as previous variants such as delta, as reported by CNN.

According to a preprint study, researchers said that “our data suggest the possibility that BA.2 would be the most concerned variant to global health … we propose that BA.2 should be recognised as a unique variant of concern, and this SARS-CoV-2 variant should be monitored in depth.”

As medical news site Healio reported last week, the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention has begun reporting the proportion of COVID-19 cases in the United States caused by BA.2, and although the subvariant accounted for just 3.6 percent of infections in the country for the week ending February 5, that percentage is triple the amount it accounted for the week prior.

Figures presented by the The New York Times on Thursday indicated that infections are climbing in Belarus, Latvia, and Slovakia. Cases have risen 79 percent in two weeks in Russia.

CIDRAP adds that this week South Korea’s daily infections have soared past 90,000 for the first time, Hong Kong broke its daily case total by hitting 4,000, Singapore tallied a new daily high of more than 19,000 new cases, and Indonesia also reported a record high, with daily cases surpassing 57,000.

Reality Check #1:

Only a retard will think that anyone is equating a dental procedure to a facial, just because both were mentioned in the same post.

Reality Check #2:

Despite how someone keeps repeating "99.7% of cases have mild or no symptoms (probably even less than this now, when you consider that not all positive cases are being recorded)", there were still more than 1000 daily cases of COVID-hospitalizations over the past 16 days at least.

#1) learn to read. Then read the answer from @lonelyglobe

#2) learn to count. Then see that there have been more than 200,000 cases in the last sixteen days, so even if you put 1000 in red bold italic it doesn’t change the 99.7%. If you went to change that, you need to calculate the number of new admissions per day and calculate that as a percentage of the daily case number.

yes, let’s stick to facts and science and balance, rather than sharing only overly speculative or negative articles and information, or overly highlighting only certain points that show your bias and reinforce your point of view.

Go ahead. You can start by editing all of your endless posts compiling the daily case counts.

The fact still remains that your response post focused on the wrong section and was sending wrong signals.

Simply not relevant because above "conclusion" does not apply to the by Omicron uninfected population of Singapore.

Please note that your above point you stressed referred only to people who had already been recently infected with Omicron. This might apply to the approx. 200,000 that have been recently infected with Omicron but it simply doesn't apply to all others, namely 98% (or more) of Singapore's population.

Those people who had not suffered any Omicron infection do not have such antibodies.

Unless, you had just suffered from an Omicron infection yourself, then the above part may have applied to you, but it does nothing to all others non  infected people.

So the conclusion was worth nothing and your post superfluous.

Let us see first what the impact and risk assessment of the new Covid Omicron sub variant BA.2 will be.
