GachiMuchi Posted June 7, 2021 Posted June 7, 2021 (edited) Viral video showing racist remarks made towards interracial couple, “Chinese” man tells them to date people of their own race A Singaporean man, Dave Parkash, shared a video of him on Sunday (6 June) being confronted by a male, who made racist remarks about him and his girlfriend in public, telling the interracial couple to date people of their own race. The video, which was posted on Facebook, has gone viral with over 144k views and over 8k shares at the time of writing. In the video, the man who refers himself as a Chinese, is shown confronting Mr Dave and his girlfriend in public and said that “it is racist that the Indian prey on Chinese girls”. This is despite Mr Dave has clarified that he is half-Indian and half-Filipino, while his girlfriend — who recorded the incident — is half-Chinese and half-Thai. He told Mr Dave: “I got nothing against you staying in Singapore. The only thing is you are preying on Chinese girl, I tell you the Chinese won’t like it,” while admitting that he himself is “racist”. The man also accused Mr Dave’s girlfriend of “disgracing me”, saying that the interracial couple should date people of their own race instead. “You don’t see a Chinese guy preying on an Indian girl,” he further said to Mr Dave. The confrontation lasted for a few minutes before the man eventually walks off, leaving the couple at the scene. Feeling “unreal” of the situation, Mr Dave wrote in his Facebook post that he felt “embarrassed” and “humiliated” by the way he was being treated by the Chinese man. “He humiliated us in public by shaming both her and I like as though we did something wrong. I come from a mixed race background and so is my gf [girlfriend]. We both are mixed race but we are proud to be Singaporeans. “I feel we shouldn’t be publicly shamed just because of our skin colour. Love is love. Love has no race love has no religion. You and I should be able to love whoever we wanna love. Lets not become like this man in the video,” he noted. Mr Dave ended his post by saying, “To this man who may end up watching this, I hope you learn to stop being a racist and let us all live in harmony. Last but not least life’s too short, LET US SPREAD LOVE AND NOT HATE AND MAY THIS MESSAGE EDUCATE.” https://www.facebook.com/daveparkash24/videos/10222826985038077/ Edited June 7, 2021 by GachiMuchi Quote http://gachimuchi2008.blogspot.com

I dont understand why such racists stay here to enjoy the system. They should consider moving to parts of the world which is racially homogenous and make his contributions there. Quote

Will you question a person as to why he is staying here to "enjoy the system", if he "revealed that he would have had no qualms telling his daughter: 'You're mad." if she had wished to marry a black African? And would you tell him to "consider moving to parts of the world which is racially homogenous and make his contributions there" if he also "expressed reservations about inter-racial marriages"???? HAHAHAHAHA! Quote

One's education or professional work has no bearing on what kind of person they actually are underneath it all. And frankly, is anyone even surprised about the things he said? Think we all know more than enough people of his generation who believe such things and hold such stereotypes, just that not every single one of them was captured on video openly saying it all out. The pandemic has been hard on everyone. Expect more examples of people snapping like this in the coming months and years. Kimochi 1 Quote

Guest Caught Telling Lies Posted June 9, 2021 Posted June 9, 2021 Who the hell does that soon-to-be-former Ngee Ann Poly lecturer think he is to just walk up to a random couple on Orchard Road and start racially abusing them? It is none of his damn business who another man or woman dates (or marries). That is their relationship. Not his. Their relationship has no bearing or impact on his life, and prior to his ruining their stroll together, he had no impact at all on their lives. That future ex-lecturer is a kaypoh racist, and he deserves to be sacked, and he should never be hired for another job. I hope this is not a sign of Singapore backsliding into the same racist gutter of yesteryear that Dump Trump and the Neo-Nazi Right have now unleashed on America. Singapore is a peaceful multi-racial nation and our citizens should be able to date (or marry) any adult partner they choose! Quote

There is no proof. Can this person not be mentally disturbed? Derangement personality is not uncommon. MORE SO then someone who hold a racist view. Being able to go Poly or Uni does not all the time mean you can not have a mental breakdown or mentally unstable. And yes he can be an asshole too. But to openly do this in 2021 publicly? You have to suspect something is mentally not right with him. It is not healthy or help one's cause by making sweeping statement base on a single or compilation of curated niche stories without a detailed verified consensus show that there are a lot of people out there holding the same racist mindset like him, or that its systemic racism. Make mountain out of mole hills as the saying goes. Let's not get into the western hysteria now infecting the West. Distorted views exist on more than one plane of origin. It is not always from where you think it is till you do more research to find out before you join the 'fight' and end up promoting more bad outcome than good. Are there such people around that who are racist? Yes. But one or even a hundred of these example around the world happening does not make for a very firm confirmation when there are over 7 Billions people interacting every day. Think this is bad even if say he is not MENTALLY CRAZY? Try reading more news every day from around the world like I do and put in keywords about oppression, racist, religious terrorism...etc and see what you read. Also google or research mental illness. It is on the rise. This is a stressful world for so many reasons. We are not helping things along by focusing on the wrong issue or only looking at a issue FROM ONE SIDE. Take the time to see the story, expand on it and relook at it again from a macro perspective and not just microscopic. The story can look very difference when you do that. The Israel/Palestine conflict is a good example. And if you do read up on the history leading up to it, you will see THERE ARE ENOUGH BLAME TO GO AROUND ON ALL SIDES. Don't pick a side to bitch and feel good like some game you want to win. Use it to help you make better decision about your life from that example learn. If anything, this will help you and the world a lot more than virtue signalling for a selfie. POV. Just saying guys... peace and cheers... Chill out a little too. There are usually at least two side to anything you see, read or hear. And if you get pissed rading this and it ends up getting you all worked up and you want to seek justice. Well you JUST BECAME THAT GUY IN THE RED TEE SHIRT yelling at the couple. See what I mean now? Edited June 9, 2021 by upshot Quote ** Comments are my opinions, same as yours. Difficult to copy over. https://www.straitstimes.com/singapore/ngee-ann-poly-lecturer-made-islamophobic-remarks-in-class-says-ex-student Ngee Ann Poly lecturer involved in racist remark incident made Islamophobic comments in class, says ex-student ST/ 10 June 2021 SINGAPORE - Former students of Ngee Ann Polytechnic lecturer Tan Boon Lee have accused him of racially and religiously insensitive behaviour in the classroom. One of them, Ms Nurul Fatimah Iskandar, 22, in an Instagram post on Wednesday (June 9), said Mr Tan had initiated an offensive discussion about Islam during lesson time, where he singled her out for being Muslim, when she was his student about four years ago. In a phone interview with The Straits Times on Thursday, she said: "I remember that he opened websites about Islam and explained why he didn't agree with certain Quranic verses. "He then singled me out, and tried to start a debate on the topic. It didn't help that I was the only Muslim student in class and I sat in the front row." When asked about Ms Nurul's allegations, Mr Tan declined to comment "at the moment" but said he remembers her as a former student. Mr Tan, 60, is assisting the police with investigations after he was seen making racist remarks in a video to ice cream store owner Dave Parkash, 26, and his girlfriend Jacqueline Ho, 27, a user experience designer, in Orchard Road on Saturday night. The polytechnic has suspended him from teaching duties and is conducting an internal investigation after the video surfaced online on Sunday. Ms Nurul, who is now an electrical engineering student at the National University of Singapore, said the incident happened in July 2017. She was a second-year electrical engineering student at the polytechnic at the time. She said: "I remember being so affected by it that I sat outside the classroom with a friend waiting for him to finish talking." She nearly stopped going for his classes after that, but decided not to because it was too close to the final examinations. Ms Nurul said the experience in Mr Tan's class was difficult for her. She said: "I was only 18 then, and was still fresh out of the madrasah, so I was still trying to adjust to the secular environment. Being singled out like that was very jarring for me." Madrasahs are Islamic religious schools. Since she put up the post about the incident on Instagram, Ms Nurul said more accounts about Mr Tan from other students have come to her attention. PHOTOS: NURUL FATIMAH BINTI ISKANDAR/INSTAGRAM Ms Nurul said it was tough for her to speak up against her lecturer, as she was afraid that her scholarship would be at stake if things went badly. "After all, I'm still being graded by the same lecturer so I felt it was wiser not to say anything about it," she said. "And being the only minority in class, it’s very hard for me to speak out, and it is just as difficult for fellow classmates to back me up in case anything goes wrong. Also, I’ve always grown up with the mindset that I shouldn’t cause any trouble," she added. Ms Nurul finally mustered the courage to send an e-mail to the school about what happened. She never got a response, she said. The Straits Times has contacted Ngee Ann Poly for comment. Since she put up the post about the incident on Instagram, Ms Nurul said more accounts about Mr Tan from other students have come to her attention. One user on Instagram alleged that Mr Tan once made disparaging comments about Christianity in class, causing outrage among the students, while another alleged that the lecturer had made her take off her hijab, which covers the head. "The hijab that I am proud of wearing became something that I felt ashamed of when he was around," the user wrote. Asked if such incidents were common in school, Ms Nurul said that while there were cases of casual racism among the teachers, none of them was as "daring" as Mr Tan. In her Instagram post, Ms Nurul said Mr Tan should not be allowed back in the classroom again because a "racist Islamophobe has no place educating our youth". She wrote: "It is not enough to be anti-racist, it is not enough to be neutral. We need more people to step up, stand up and speak up against racism." Quote

People of this generation (lecturer whole life) are the arrived generation. The only way to teach such people a lesson is shame. Shame not only on him, but should extend to his children. Meaning, his children should feel ashamed of him and reprimand him. My point is, Singaporeans are fearless and thick-skinned, not many things affect them but only the negative treatment from his children may result in some impact. Obviously they need money to live, but also find it preferable to make a living while pursuing their true passion, which is poisoning young minds with their disgusting bile. Depriving him of what has been his primary platform to spread his hateful idealogy is almost equivalent to depriving him of oxygen. GachiMuchi Posted July 9, 2021 Author Posted July 9, 2021 Ex-Lecturer Who Made Racist Remarks to Interracial Couple Apologised Publicly with a New FB Account Written ByGeorge Yang Everyone might be talking about a lady who drives a purple Lamborghini now, but everyone hasn’t forgotten about the racist man who was caught berating an interracial couple in Orchard Road for no reason, and then spewing racist remarks for no reason. The man, Tan Boon Lee, has since been dismissed by his employer, Ngee Ann Polytechnic. It was later revealed that his racist mindset wasn’t limited to that particular incident, as a former student then revealed that he had even spoken about religions that was obviously not part of the lesson plan. He’s now back in the spotlight, this time for his apology. Ex-Lecturer Who Made Racist Remarks to Interracial Couple Apologised Publicly with a New FB Account The man had apologised through a letter to the media via a law firm, and there’s also a new Facebook account that is allegedly created by the man himself. He said that what happened that evening was “out of character” and that he has been “struggling with a personal matter which has caused me much grief and pain.” Here’s what he wrote in the Facebook post: I don’t have a Facebook account before. I am creating this Facebook because I want to convey my apology to the public. On 5 June 2021, I had an encounter in public with Mr Dave Parkash and his partner, Ms Jacqueline Ho. During that encounter, I made several unwelcome comments about cross‐cultural relationships. The comments were unacceptable. I am deeply sorry for what I said. What happened that evening was out of character for me. I have been struggling with a personal matter which has caused me much grief and pain. Nevertheless, my personal problems are no excuse for my actions. I have apologised to Mr Parkash, Ms Ho, and their families. I now wish to apologise to those in the wider Singaporean community whom I have hurt and offended with my words. The incident has prompted me to dig deep and reflect on my own behaviour and motivations. I realise now that although I spoke from a place of deep personal pain, my words were bigoted, discriminatory, and insensitive. I recognise my shortcomings and wish to learn from this incident. With the support of my family, friends, and I hope the wider community, I will work on my flaws to ensure that I do not make this mistake again.
