He got steady roles in China and played prominent supporting characters in China so I would argue that he did make it there. I assume even a supporting role there pays much better than a lead role in Singapore. Plus, the exposure is so much more.

 

Tay Ping Hui was Genghis Khan in Legend Of The Condor Hero and Yan Nantian in Handsome Siblings, which are both blockbuster wuxia China shows.

 

Being in his 50s, you can't expect Tay Ping Hui to get lead roles in China. Even Christopher Lee is demoted to supporting roles in China productions. Christopher only plays lead roles in Taiwanese shows.

 

So I would say Tay Ping Hui did make it in China. Hope he breaks into Hollywood too as I quite like him - the man acts well and still looks good.
