Xie has been saying for many years he wants to retire so when he eventually retired, it was not surprising at all. Unlike other actors, Xie doesn't care about fame or fortune. He has always been super low profile. Even when he was in TCS, he doesn't take part in variety shows or do interviews. He really is a true actor who focuses on his craft. His popularity came naturally. Don't remember him ever campaigning for votes or doing anything attention seeking. So once he retired, he had no desire to return to the limelight because he never cared about it to begin with. Quote

With years, you may have earned enough and decided to call it a day. That is also when you have completely 'fallen out of love' with your job or company. To leave and not turn back. In Spore, many teachers (who solely want to teach) and engineers/research (who solely want to do technical/research work) got burned out at their workplaces and choose to leave their profession eventually. Those who stayed on and flourished, are usually mediocre in their field but excellent players of office politics. I don't think it's any difference with Mediacorp. Quote
