The majority of Singaporeans will still be under 20 years old even after completing a three to four year formal education. They will only enroll in a university to pursue their academic studies after NS. Return to your subject. You are probably older than the younger recruits given your age. More senior than your section leader, most likely. When I was also a recruit, I was scrawny and Pes B which proved one has already passed all health and fitness test. Treat the army as your intense gym workout routine; it won't kill you, regardless of what, gave you a lot of physical and emotional self-confidence. As such, the people who used to harass you in public will think twice before approaching you again. You know, lots of crazy people out there these days. Being thin has its benefits; you are more nimble than a fat guy, and you can occasionally be "forgiven" for mistakes after giving the trainer your best effort. You should be concerned, that if you landed in a company where your leader is extemely demanding of their recruits since they are in dire need of recognition. In this sense, you must start praying and begin counting down to your passing day, which is within a blink of an eye, long before Christmas arrived. No sufferings, in army, last forever. However, it's important to remember that being cooperative and kind will make you a likeable person and you may ended up with a couple of very close-knitted buddy throughout the training days. It can be harmful to act like a diva, and no one will feel sorry for your struggle in any shapes or forms, let alone finding a supportive buddy. Push the like button if the above make sense to you. abcwater and Brownieboii 1 1 Quote

MDZY Posted July 14, 2025 Posted July 14, 2025 NS to many people like yourself is an unknown territory. I would say NS shape you up physically and mentally. If you think NS is the worse place you can ever be, it will be 100x worse when u enter the working society. Enjoy your NS, expand your social network... and most importantly be cooperative. There are still certain standard the SAF needs to maintain in terms of training so just go through it as instructed. If you feel really unwell, please sound out but do not take advantage. Dirtyme Posted July 19, 2025 Posted July 19, 2025 PTP was great for me, because you get to spend more time with your buddies vs the regular 2 months. The bonds we had were definitely great because everyone encouraged each other and enjoyed our time together. training wise I didn't train up anything before going in. so I went in with a open mind to get to finally train up myself. somehow with a "weakness" you could make new friends to team up together and improve. so open mind and have fun! NS has been one great ride I would love to go through again with my buddies ❤️ pthc and Brownieboii 1 1 Quote
Brownieboii Posted July 19, 2025 Author Posted July 19, 2025 Can anyone take me through your first day of NS? Specifically for those who went to Tekong. Quote
grandy Posted July 19, 2025 Posted July 19, 2025 (edited) A lot of my PTP friends said that life is a breeze, because they spread out the 9 weeks into 16 weeks. My PTP friends told me that the first day or so was literally nothing. so things are really much slower, the 3SG get to chit chat more with you. I'm enhanced batch, didn't really make friends, somehow didn't get into the clique. But everyone appreciates how I help out. And they also helped me out in my weaknesses (think outfield and lack of strength). But when I entered unit, I had 2-3 super duper good friends and we stuck together throughout every second of the day. We are still in touch, but rarely meet as one of them is constantly working overseas, while another is busy being an influencer. The last one got exempted over the years. We rarely chat, but when we do meet, aka reservist, they still look out for me, even though I can sense we no longer have that narrow mindedness to spend all our limited time together. A little sad, but I will still remember the great times, and fully treasure it. So grateful that the entire unit life were with people I can trust, and I literally had nothing to worry about. In Tekong, I looked forward to returning to camp, because um their food is more nutritious than what I have at home... And in unit life, the reason of course became I can spend time with my best friends. To answer your question directly, my first day was the usual ushering you around to do all the oath taking, with your parents having a grand tour. Then when they are gone, we went for hair cutting (please do it before!) and collecting of all your issued items. They will do a one by one check to ensure you have everything. Then please have photographic memory to put it back nicely, so you can carry back in the same easy way it was given to you. They would probably also have your peers teach you how to tie your boots, create ilbv and fold smart 4. And look forward to night snacks! First week is very enjoyable! kaze Posted July 19, 2025 Posted July 19, 2025 day 1 is just wayang to your parents to show they are taking care of you well. then its just very basic stuffs. nothing very serious. laying down the ground work on rank and stuffs. nothing to be afraid of. just do what your sergeants tell you to and you will be fine. always sound out if you are feeling unwell. with this, it will be over very soon. Bahamut LGH Posted July 30, 2025 Posted July 30, 2025 The only painful scenario for me during BMT is, you got to wake up super duper early. Like 5.15am to prepare for the first parade and 5bx. It can be little intense if you’re not into fitness in the beginning stage. But SAF is always very cautious about the new recruit health, so you won’t have the chance to wear yourself out. Even you do, just sound out freely and they will let you take a break. do have open mind and meet different kind of people. Respect everyone especially the senior (senior rank) and time will pass super fast. With the advanced technology such as smart phone able to bring inside camp these day, I am very sure time will pass even super faster and easier than our time where camera phone is not allow, where smart phone didn’t exist back then. Why? Posted August 2, 2025 Posted August 2, 2025 (edited) Stock up plenty of snacks in your cupboard. I mean get your love ones to buy it for you when they visit you, not on your enlistment day because you have plenty of military barang barang to be collected onsite. You tend to get hungry easily (at night) due to calories burn. My favourite is space-friendly Oreo biscuit. My camp in Clementi used to have cold/hot drinks vending machine, so some coins or small notes are useful to have. Not sure about Pulau Tekong. Edited August 2, 2025 by Why? Brownieboii 1 Quote

After two weeks of training and camp orientation, family visits will be permitted. to demonstrate to family members how well their spoiled sons are doing or eating. After the visit ended, the actual army training started. Visitation is no longer permitted. It's best to let your family know in advance of their visit what you need or what you would like them to get for you. You won't feel alone during the difficult times since you will need them and vice versa. There won't be any sleepless nights, in my opinion. Rather, you'll be so exhausted that you won't want to get out of bed to use the restroom, which is why some individuals even wet their beds. I have wetted my bed once, and numerous wet dreams because my body was naturally seeking its own adjustment and relief to harsh environment (hunk included). An hour before dawn, just as you thought the night was still early after closing your eyes, you heard your commander yelling and screaming their lung out to begin you for a new day. Anyone who is late in the preparation of falling in, the entire platoon will have to return to their bunk and repeat the process until your commander is happy with the speed he desired. A couple of unfit individuals were still drifting in and out of their slumber before the entire platoon is being marched off for breakfast, followed by more waiting, more instructions, and some basic training until you looked extremely tanned and your body ached all over before the day of the family visit. The whole point, is that they will be astonished to discover how drastically (Manly) their son has changed in just two weeks of absence. Real army life started when you heard the gate latch with a loud clank after your family vacation was over. Thereafter, no bluff, you won't enjoy what is to come and the only comfort you will get, after a hard days of training, is to find what most gay love to see in the shower room. Why? Posted August 12, 2025 Posted August 12, 2025 (edited) Recruits are regarded as late teens since they are often between the ages of 18 and 20. In the army, they primarily discuss topics appropriate for their age group, such as personal career goals, education advancement, the newest technology, past time hobbies, family issues, worries about their posting right after basic training, and going out together to watch movies, eat, party, shop, etc. Most of the recruiters, in my opinion, are well educated, had respectable upbringings, and are not interested in prostitution, unless you're talking about school dropouts who got odd jobs and participated in gangsterism outside. If a religious campmate starts sharing the gospel with you over break and then extends an invitation to visit his church, don't be surprised. Edited August 12, 2025 by Why? mate69 1 Quote
