Part of their high security training is done within their compound but all physical training is actually outdoors and in the town area.

 

Nepal mountain towns are sprawling, not like land-scarce SG. So no need for them to cramp themselves into the compound. So it is very possible to rub shoulders with training gurkhas as they do their physical training, runs or catch them around town during their scheduled downtime.

actually there were not many cruisers near mount vernon barracks.  reasons being, (1) it was not very accessible and (2) it is near 2 death facilities - mt vernon crematorium and bidadari cemetery.  Those who are superstitious or afraid don't venture out there.  Yes you are right, words pass around.  Once a gurkha cums, he will very often say, "you wait, i tell my friend to come."  So it is all word of mouth marketing. haha!

the gurkhas are a fearless breed of soldiers who are not afraid to die for whoever they are protecting.  that is why countries like the UK and Singapore invest in them.

I agree! but as we all know, it is a delicate balance between sexy dadbod, musclepig, bear and just fat - a very very delicate balance.

 

Unfortunately, from what I've seen with the older gurkhas, the ratio of muscle and beer gut is tied. As the gut increases, the muscle also exponentially decreases, haha.
 

My guess is that these older gurkhas are now relegated to "encik" status, and just train the newer guys, so they let themselves go. they are still tanned, but otherwise a bit out of shape. 

There is no logical explanation otherwise, because keeping fit is part of their job scope, and they have two large gyms, 3 basketball courts and other sports amenities inside their housing facility - they should still be exercising unless they hit a certain level of seniority which exempts them from the physical upkeep.

Exactly.  No amount of pinkdot, repealing of S377 or a number of saunas can replace those golden memory lanes.   I think the whole landscape of Singapore has became quite un-cruisable in the early 2000.  Prior to those years,  I call it the golden age of cruising . Fishing in the wild is always more exciting than inside a man-made pond or fishtank.

Some of them look very very young here, I am watching without the audio. But in Pokhara training, they are probably around 17 to 19, when they come in. Older ones also have but no older than mid 20s.

Facial wise, is actually quite varied. I've seen some that look very chinese and korean, some are more uzbeki or mongolian, while others look more like indian, and even thai. Of course, overall still very handsome with sharp intermixing features. There was one I like called Sarnath, who looks like a version of Alex Landi with light gray/green eyes. Can melt me on the spot, although my own preference is for a slightly older man, 30s and 40s. 

When they train on runs, they wear a type of green camo uniform . But off duty, they wear casual or sportswear and summertime, in running shorts which show off their strong thighs and butts. (Similar to below, although this is gurkha training in UK.)



Some of the more naughty ones also chase girls, as normal boys do. Not much to do in the town, as most of them are from other parts of Nepal,

I took a trip down memory lane some years back and the whole landscape is so different now.  Many of them now have families and no longer come out to play as mama cat is at home waiting.  Saw some young ones and they appeared curious but were too afraid to approach me.  Guess with the lack of peer support it would be uncomfortable for them.  Also with AIDS and the fear of contracting such a dreadful disease is also another deterrent.

Sounds unpromising these days, but there is still hope as long as they are present in Singapore.  I hope we continue to use them here and not chase them away. The more the merrier by opening our floodgate for Gurkha, to bring back those long forgotten activities you have had.  Good things must share.

It is a pity they were here to guard the VIP houses.  Being trained 1st Tier, they should be fighting wars in the middle east for the British.  I suspect, they were well paid in Singapore as compared to other country Gurkha, thus getting them into Singapore, our authority has set very stringent test for them to come here.  Even then,  especially those with family and kids,  I think they were scrimping to hold their family together.  The other day,  I saw a Gurkha counting coins to pay for his kids bus fare, the bus captain, close one eye and told him no need to pay...hahah.  They were well respected people. 

 

On the other hand,  the old batch of Gurkha seems a little bloated at the gut area, not everyone try to stay fit after reaching certain age or they were probably given light duties until their retirement.    Though it is right that many Gurkhas have to show discipline physically and mentally,   I bump into a young Gurkha with a big fat tummy at Macpherson the other day, he was with a group of his fit colleagues.   Hmmmm....may be one sheep was being deliberately overlooked?

 

I suspect, the toughest time they faced was their 1st nine grilling month in Singapore, followed by once a year tough "ICT" in Tekong.  Other than that, they need to be physically prepared for any unforsseeable circumstance.  

 

Out of 2000 strong,  only a few can be seen jogging publicly,  I wonder where were the rest?  Than again, it depends how proud or how discipline they love their job.   Having said that,  their stamina were good whether young or old.  I have seen the older Gurkha panting like shit while jogging slowly, but still perservere and never stop running.

You can find a group of them at either Changi Village,  East Coast Park or West Coast Park picnicking with friends or family.   Gurkha loves to spend as much time near to the seaside as possible during their years here.   Once they are repartriated to Nepal,  they & their children will hardly have the fortune to be near any sea or ocean  inside their mountainous country.  Thus best to leave them to enjoy their time here with family.  

 

Having said that,  most young Gurkhas love to group in 3 or 4 and never was alone.  It is understandable, we did that in our army days too especially when you are strange to a new country.  Once they reached certain age and familiar with their Singapore surroundings,  they can be spotted shopping alone and by then, they probably won't be too far away from retirements. Most Gurkha are thrifty, thus never see them venture out too much, other than loitering around their comfort zone or within only their surrouding vicinity  where they stay.

Majority of them have shorter legs (with thick thigh) relative to their longer body structure (and bigger chest). I think some of you have either high degree of myopia or presbyopia  ( lao hua yan), it was mentioned that Peninsula Shopping center  was the popular place for gurkha to shop,

 

not Peninsula Plaza which is also known as Little Burma along North Bridge Road.

This is Peninsula Plaza,  which is known as little Burma, and its unmistakable smell when you step in to the concourse, a combination of  pinglang , raw young bamboo shoots and all the smells of fresh burmese groceries,

Ghurkas are said to be descendents of Genghis Khan's army that have not returned to the grass lands of Mongolia, they have lovely East Asian features, are known to be fearless , loyal and can withstand very cold temperatures like their homeland in Mongolia and have lungs of steel for having been born and live in the higher parts of Nepal and they have good temperament,  and they are Hindu.

Anyone who is young, certainly have good complexion with nice teeth and youthful look.  I admit I look better than them when I was young too and our army boys are also not that bad looking.  However, going by country that are among the poorest in the world, Gurkha do know how to take good care of their own well beings.    I have seen young new gurkhas, after streneous training in Tekong, all started to developed acnes and pimples on their faces. Yes, I do agree they have unique features - fusion of tibet and mongolian and some are rather dark and indian-lite.   I believed they were differentiated by their caste and tribes in the mountainous zone.  The Eastern Asian appearance probably belongs to the Limbu/Rai/Sherpa  of buddhism culture and the rest...gurung (forming the majority of gurkha forces)/Thapa of hindu culture..etc.   If anyone know of any of them, you can correct me if I am wrong.

 

I can't say they have good temperament in their own country, only their own citizens can bare witness to their habbit. They are unassuming people towards the host country, probably looking us up as a "well-to-do" and well mannered people which left a good impression on them.  Especially their children, tend to compare our citizens with their home citizens after growing up here.

 

They may be paramilitary,  unlike our police,  they have protocol to observe which I believed is rather restricted as compared to the broad spectrum of responsibility of our police force.  I just wished they are not partisan when carrying out their duty to safeguard the ferrying of ballot box...etc. 

 

Having said that,  some of them are really friendly and smile at you  when we crossed path, but they are also as shy as you and me.   They loves staying in their own camp,  the size of a small town which gave them a sense of belongings/culture/family/security and other nepalese related activities.  They love Singapore , they love wearing white and red symbol of our country and were proud that their children were born and educated in Singapore. They love nepal even more,  knowing that getting a citizenship here is out of the question.  As such, I strongly feels for them in this regard.

 

Imagine you were send to a distant country at the age of 18, served 25 years (married or not married) away from family members.  At your prime of 45yo, your royalty was dismissed and you were back to your home country, along with your childrens, with no future.   We Singaporeans should give them the best experiences they can get here, not the type that  脏子姨 offers,  but a warmth and memorable hospitality for their service that they will want to see us again after retirment.    Don't asked how I know,  I saw them in my town almost everyday    A huge part of my life will be missing if Gurkha is abolished in Singapore.    They remains me of old time Ah Ma maids, serving her mistress/masters all her life, forgoing her  marriage to look after other people kids and than send back to China when she became old.
