It should be easy for the police to identify him from his whatsapp number (which is linked to a local mobile number).

 

Tell them that you booked a massage service but he scammed you for payment but never delivered the service.

 

You don't need to tell what sort of massage you were looking at or where you got his whatsapp contact.

Copy out the whatsapp messages where the guy ask for the payment, show your payment confirmation. Copy the message where the guy confirmed the booking.

The ad was on a dating app not a physical in-person massage centre.

I would never transfer money in advance to someone I've only had contact with on a dating app.

I'm sorry to hear the OP was scammed by someone advertising massage services on the app.  In fact it's quite possible the ad description, photos and promise of massage services were all fake, and it's simply a money making scam.

Plenty of similar scams operate out of Nigeria, so the advertiser could in fact be based anywhere (for example by using a VPN to mask their real location).

Unfortunately the lesson here is not to transfer money to anyone you've interacted with solely online.

Therefore, I doubt the scam was from any Nigerian gang.

For any online payment, the scammer would also need a bank account within Malaysia (if you pay through the hp number).

 

Probably a Malaysian (or resident in Malaysia) who just tried to suck out his money in the expectation that the OP would not make any police report.

 

Unfortunately @sl39 never wrote by what channel he paid the guy upfront and whether the mobile number was a Malaysian number. Hopefully it wasn't Senang Pay because OP never got senang!
