Male airport is one of the nicer airports around. One other awesome airport is none other than St. Maarten - Princess Juliana airport!

hahaha.. Same here. Been on airliners.net since I first got online. And I always use airliners.net as my password hint! (as in when websites ask for you a secret question like what is your favourite website, etc)

i collect mainly herpa / rise soon 1:200 models - really cheap from taipei .. and i get my updates from www.airliners.net or www.flyertalk.com / www.airlineroute.net

This is very interesting. Swissair fly back to Singapore. Japan Airlines flying first the Dreamliner to Singapore. Singapore very happening - despite Quantas BA moving their hub to Dubai. Does this mean next time the Queen or royal family go Australia they will not transit in Singapore?

Anybody here attending any Aviation related courses? Heard sometime back you can do your BA in Aviation Mgmt in Singapore. Can somebody share? I am interested coz this is growing market and got alot of potential. Maybe work in some nice airport. not airline though bitchy peoples....

U can check out Singapore Aviation College. They have quite a few courses but i think they are mostly distance learning...

It will just be Qantas moving ahead to Dubai - their JSA with BA is said to end. And so is their agreement with Air France.

They made Scoot just in time then - it will mainly serve Sydney and Gold Coast. And it is tying up with Tiger to jointly market all their destinations, all transiting at Singapore.

Dragon Wings / Gemini Jets manufacture 1:400 models while Rise Soon exclusively manufactures 1:200 models .. the earlier 1:200 models by Rise Soon weren't that great but the later models and paints by Rise Soon were very very impressive ! Check out the Malaysia Airlines Hibiscus Livery and Freedom of Space livery ... If you can, do get the Air New Zealand All Blacks too !

The Orchard Store is just overpriced .. don't get any plane models locally .. it's such a rip-off

Anyways, I was looking through some old photos and found these..

The good old days of spotting at the T1 viewing galley.. when I first started spotting.. I remember those days fondly.. Things have really changed since then..

When planes will pass right infront of you and taxi into gate C1..

When AI still flew their A310s to SIN..

When QF still had the 747SP.. (Anyone remember which route did QF use the 747SP on?)

When you took note of the different BA World Tails you've seen like how some spotters take note of the registration of the aircraft they've spotted..

When the JAL MD-11 was one of the highlights in the afternoon..

When QF was actually bigger than EK..!

And so was Turkish..

When cargo 747s were a regular sight..

When Thai's A300s were a regular visitor to SIN..

And A300s of other airlines like CI..

When noisy and dirty old Indonesian 737-200s were still allowed in SIN.. you could see the exhaust (and hear the Pratt & Whitney JT8Ds) when they took off..

When Star Alliance only consisted of Air Canada, Lufthansa, Scandinavian Airlines, Thai Airways International, and United Airlines..

When SQ still had the 340-300s.. Who could forget these heavenly looking Celestars.. Probably the most elegant looking widebody ever built. Pity about the takeoff performance though..

Gate C1 was an icon! I always remember the airlines that would be there. Vietnam Airlines, JAL and Cathay usually. HAHA. That's around the afternoon 2ish period of time.

QF's 747SP were used to uh, I think Darwin I think at one point, and Mumbai or was it HongKong. I have their timetable from 2001 HAHAHA! Gosh I feel old now. That was a classic. QF also flew their 743s from BNE and I think MEL too. And they used to fly to so many places from Singapore! Mumbai, Bangkok, Jarkarta, Rome, Frankfurt etc etc. They were huge back then (yeap, you're right, larger than EK that time) but now all I see are 744s and 333s and 332s from a small number of Aussie spots.

I also remember the Bouraq 732s! I always love seeing them cuz they're so tiny and so cute! Sadly I think they're gone now.

You know, the area that the Bouraq and China Airlines and Thai used to park is now overflowing with LCCs, which sadly is so boring with a whole bunch of their 320s.

Sigh I miss the old viewing gallery! Nowadays I see 70% LCCs in the afternoon. So rare to see larger rarer birds and if they do come, they're parked at some obscure corner haha!

Yeahh all those weekend lazy afternoons at T1 watching aircraft which just landed taxi pass... The dimly lit L shaped hallway.. The evening rushhour with all those Qantas and British Airways widebodies. good memories.. too bad they closed off the prime spot which is the area facing runway 02L/20R. Now gate C1 is all but a distant memory..

I guess the LCC invasion is a mixed blessing for us airline enthusiasts. On one hand we get to fly more often, but they're almost always on narrow bodies with boring paint schemes. Oh well, at least Changi has grown because of all those budgets that we so love to hate. Now we have T3 and all.

Anyone wanna catch the movie Flight? It's about this pilot who saves the day when his plane crashed, but is accused of being drunk while in command. The movie has been out since the 21st so i'm proposing that we can meet up next weekend to catch it! If we watch it in the east, we might even be able to do some spotting at the airport after that.

So.. let's fix it on next saturday, 1/12/12, we'll probably meet for lunch first to get to know each other before we proceed for the movie

If it ain't Boeing I ain't going. hahaha. That used to be the saying when Airbus was just coming up. Now if you only fly Boeing you'll find your choice of flights severely limited

Haha, is it like the flight board at T1? (is it still there?) I love the board too, it just has more character than the boring FIDS LCD monitors airports have nowadays..

I don't have an iPhone though. Too bad the Android version is not free. It costs $5

Whats your impression of Cathay Pacific? I will be using them during CNY2013 for the 1st time..

Never flown them before but Cathay is always up there with SIA and Emirates, etc, so i'm sure you'll have a great flight. Not sure if they use aircraft that have the newer inflight entertainment system between Singapore and Hong Kong, perhaps the others who fly them regularly can comment.
