Disagree. I fly on SQ alot and I think they still have very good looking crew. And even if they didn't, I can't see how there is anything sad about that. A decline in service or safety standards perhaps would be more sad for me.

In fact what saddens me more is meeting people whose happiness depends on whether they are surrounded by eye candy. I think it is a particularly gay affliction. I have this ex friend, who only hangs around guys whom he considers good looking. He is always making jokes about other people's physical imperfections. The amazing thing is that he himself falls far short of his own standards of beauty.

As for flight attendants, what is amazing is how they are trained so well to present themselves in the "standard SQ way". I once met a stewardess in a hotel after a flight, and she pleasantly came up to say hi. It took me awhile to realise I was talking to the same lady who attended to me on the flight. They way she spoke and looked was so different once she was in her "civvies".

Actually i am not sure how exactly the recruitment process is for SQ now but a friend of mine recently got in just by referral... his friend who is also flying with SQ referred him.

From what i heard from him, 2 of his friends who are currently working in SQ volunteered to your reference point as well as mentor and u can basically sailed thru the interview and tests... and confirmed a place to fly as long as the reference point put in good word for u...

So now he is waiting for his first virgin flight with SQ...

Firstly, go read an English textbook before you type another sentence.

Secondly, these cabin crew go through hell before they are considered fit and trained enough to fly so cut them some slack. It is bad enough dealing with passengers who are as whiny as yourself complaining about the food you ordered is not tasty enough, you are vegetarian and you don't eat meat (but didn't pre-order your meals before hand), complaining about crew not good looking enough...

Seriously dude, get a life. Do you think the stewards give a shit about what you think? No, because THEY are the ones who get to travel while they work while you are stuck in this little shit hole of yours moping and lamenting about trivial and insignificant little details like these. They get to have a fatter paycheck than you because for their education level for entry, their pay is really way above industry's average.

most people join after NS, with their A level or diploma.

some people do join after uni/degree, they work for a few years but normally not for long.

there are still good looking stewards too, you just have to look around.

i have read that the air stewards are usually the ones that support the air stewardess in the cabin. usually, they would be allocated to more sections with bulky baggages, galleys, preparation of liquor drinks and running errands & handing difficult customers for other stewardess.

yes, do join sq after you have a degree as you can take up a ground job with your paper qualifications. it is good to fly for a couple of years for the max as you should have covered most of the destinations. it will get tiresome after flying here and there for a while. hahaha... a great way to fly!

They chatted for a long time asking me for glasses of champagne. The 2 other crew went for their breaks and I was alone up there and had to prepared the stuff for the second service. I needed space to work and I politely told them to return to their seats. The were strangers to each other and had different seats.... So, they ended up in the toilet just outside the cockpit! I thought I saw them going into onr toilet but was not sure as it was quite a distance from the galley. I walked to the toilets and realised that only one was engaged... went into the vacant one next to it and could hear them making out! THere was another case some years back when a set of cabin crew were paxing home (crew travelling as passengers due to operational reasons). The Captain and one of the Stewardess had too many drinks on the flight, flirt with each other and ended up having fun in the toilet. They were caught of course and got dismissed. The toilet may be small but when you are desparate, anything goes! for B777, there are camera outside the cockpit door and i think inside the cockpit.... and i think they work like the black box, footage taken on the cockpit will be del with a new flight cycle.

Awesome for those pimple-ly, short and skinny guys but major bummer for you i can imagine. Just goes to show that looks isn't everything. Can i like, hazard a guess here? Maybe your over-confidence was a turn-off to those in the SIA interview panel?? Could it possibly be??

Aiya...this is quite common. When onboard the plane, they are working, when off the plane, they are considered off duty so back to their normal self. Just like teacher, when in school they behaved clean and proper but when out of school, see how some so petty in bargaining for stuff..

I must say that the crew on SQ flights these days are not any better than that of other carriers..... very mediocre.

Regardless of whether if one is in or out of Uniform , the steward should not have thrown the money at the cashier. Perhaps, I was wondering, if the steward has his side of the story too? I feel that we should not be so quick to judge.

Allow me to share my experience. It happened during those days when phonecard was still in prevalent use. Unfortunately I happened to get a faulty card after using $2 (out of a $100) of value. After about half an hour of waiting, I handed the card to the staff.

To my dismay, she said, "U give me $98 and I will give u a new $100 card.".

In astonishment, I told her "Shouldnt I give u $2 instead because I only used up $2?".

In which she rudely and loudly replied saying " YA LA, that's what I said."

The utimate moment came when I shouted at her saying "Hello, u asked for $98 and I was confirming with you shouldnt it be $2 instead!!!"

As much as I guess it was an speech error when her mind and mouth didnt coordinate well, I felt I shouldnt have lowered myself to her level by raising my voice at her, looking back now.

Well I guess we all have our sides of the story.

Being an ex crew myself, I feel that there shouldnt be an extra tag in term of expectation on social behaviour. Crew are still human beings who worked very hard on board.

About the standard of looks, there were, are and will always have a combination of handsome/beautiful and ugly ones.

Hardly surprising but there are plenty of crew who are recruited backdoor like being the sons/daughters of which director/manager/ifs etc.

So dont expect all crew to have models/Manhunt/Beauty Queens standard.

sorry, but in the views of the general public, a person's (especially one in uniform) behaviour in public reflects the company or school he is working for or schooling at.

Take for example, when you are eating at McDonald's and this group of rowdy students are making a racket. What impression do you have of the school?

We cannot see it on a technical level of how a person is allowed to behave outside his work area because in general the public will always see that person as a representation of his company and not as an individual. We can't control how the public thinks. First impressions, after all, do matter much of the time
