mike_amk Posted August 5, 2016 Posted August 5, 2016 Yes, you're right... I baked a chocolate fudge cake....and was not in the mood for more chocolate icing. Well, there were 3 egg whites left over from the cake, so I just made a meringue and baked it with the cake!! Turned out rather nice and yummy. shyc 1 Quote

I heard of this dessert that is common in Australia called Pavlova. It is meringue based and topped with fruits, nuts and whipped cream. Which is similiar to what you have except they don't have a chocolate fudge cake. And chocolate fudge topped with chocolate icing or sauce is pretty common. What you have seems like an interesting combo. Quote

Yeh....I used to bake lots of Pavlovas, and it was a spur of the moment thing when I decided to combine both. But what is unique here is the use of pounded Hazelnuts in the meringue and some larger bits to sprinkle on top. I must say that it tasted absolutely heavenly....when served with whipped cream or ice cream on the side. you've got to bake one!! Cheers shyc 1 Quote

Cheers Been wanting to try my hands on one since I learn of it's existence last year but somehow wasn't sure if it will go well. I saw it on cable and it was topped with passion fruit and chopped pistachios. The idea of ice cream on the side sound a lot better than whipped cream. Maybe one day I might just try it. Thanks for the variations ideas. Quote

If you make it thin and flat you could layer it with génoise, pastry cream, ganache, etc, and create your own pâtisserie-style layered cakes. Quote

lovehandle Posted December 5, 2016 Posted December 5, 2016 can we all throw aside what 6 pecs lah, handsome or not, ugly or short and jus hold a baking/cooking session? Whose house is big enough?? While quite a no. of us definitely has a conventional oven (not those portable ones) , I m not sure in a typical hdb flat, how to hold a group of bakers in a small kitchen??? anyone has any good suggestions??? or just a small grp of 4 ? cos anyway it is just talking about baking and passion for cooking right?
