Hi to the experts here, for those who had been to Taipei for countdown, is there a particular place/spot at 101 which is good for a great view? How early should one be there? Thanks in advance.

Happy - is what we should be, always.

Been there for the past 3 years. Get in at about 7.30pm. Can still get a good spot. Usually will enter from 101 mrt side to get a good view of fireworks

Thanks for the input. Wow, you meant you went there for 3 consecutive years, sounds like a great place to be at eh!

Be there at 7.30pm, that would be a good 4 over hours of waiting time. How did you kill your time there, chit chatting with friends?

if you want to be right in front of the stage you may want to go even earlier.  your problem would not be with killing time, can always chat people up.  your problem would more likely be with wanting to leave your precious space to get food or PEE.  that's the killer.

the first time is fun but bleah after that. Usually have a meal at 6.30, then head there after dinner. will go to loo before getting into the crowd. i usually go with my friends or meet the taiwanese there, twice with friends, one with couchsurfing. actually, u just need to tahan till 10pm then all the interesting singers come on. before that, you need to find something to pass time, or just enjoy. the quality of the fireworks has dropped over the past few years, this year, am heading to hongkong instead, then to taiwan on 1/1

yup, depends on how's on stage performers too. if you like 'em, it'd be a good night, if no feel, then probably no point spending so much time just to get a good space

Somehow I expected you would contribute something here, haha.

Yes, you are right about "that above", I better do up a "good plan", thanks for the heads-up!

*zzzzzzzz, thanks for the input too.

Just for reference for those planning their itinerary. Tainan is currently suffering from the worst dengue outbreak in Taiwan's history. More than 20 000 cases with 30+ deaths, another 20 over suspected deaths to be verified (The number of deaths may be 20+, my memory is not exactly that good nowadays).

Kaohsiung's situation is not too good. I don't remember the figures, but it seems to be under control.

Taipei has a handful of cases, but are from individuals who travelled to and return from Tainan.

Authorities believe the peak of the outbreak will probably be in Oct and ease from Nov onwards as the weather gets colder.

Take care and be safe.

I'm going solo, booked tickets to taipei, probably going down to tainan and taichung. kinda miss hualien xiao long bao but nothing to do there...

taichung u gonna visit fj nite market for sure. if you have time you should go to the lavender cafe in the mountains...otherwise just have a good tea session in miyahara and a relaxing massage session in the city itself.

tainan is more of a nomnom place. i didnt find much to explore but i walked ard the area i was living nearby, it is the artsy area, and the morning market was interesting, though i just bought the famous mango to bring to minsu in lugang. someone stopped me along the way to ask me where i bought my neon colored shoes new balance shoes...hahaha. try to cycle around the city if you can? for the touristy place u can read the guides.

oh i spent a day in changhua as well, cycled to the fan shaped train depot but it wasnt opened on a monday. cycled up hill to the big buddha and then around the little city. it was hot in august then.

going huandao yourself will be too taxing. keep yourself to the easier places first. pick a few cities eg. south to north or vice versa.

den go with someone for the memorable experiences next time, you are still young!

they say aniki for the sauna.. i nvr been before haha but i read it is much better than the rainbow club in xmd

for massage they recommend royal, but i recommend morgan... it is near to shandaoshi stn.

for gay places, the famous is the hong lou area, but i think you can just turn on your grindr/jackd and ask the tw guys in chinese (sinCe you are malaysian).
