My uncles may ask but I just smile it off and my mum will also be the one to 'fend' them off as well (not that she knows, but she thinks that love cannot be forced). My friends are another potential question-poppers and some may try to matchmake, but I always shoot back with a firm "No". Quote "You like who you like lah. Guest CNY girlfriend excuses Posted December 14, 2016 Posted December 14, 2016 Anyone else get annoyed when your relatives keep asking whether ur attached, when you are getting a girlfriend, why not being proactive enough, when getting married, etc.? Year in year out I keep making the same excuses - love need time, cannot be forced, need to focus on my studies, then my career, nobody interested in me, I very shy to approach girls, Sorry ah I promise I will try harder next time. I've run out of all my excuses already. I know this coming New Year I will be bombarded with these questions again. Someone help??? Quote
abang Posted December 14, 2016 Posted December 14, 2016 I used to avoid my relatives during festive seasons .. I go overseas or spent the day at the beach, suntanning my arse throughout the day. However there is always that odd ball that pays a visit at night... If I am already in the flat, I will still entertain them. If they ask, then I will say ..你介绍给我啦。。我没有女朋友。。You introduce one for me lah.. Their reply is always 你眼角高。。不踩人。。In Singlish: You banyak atas..tak care others lah.. Yes my other female relatives used market Bahasa to converse with me ... Quote

Guest Kaypoh = societal pressure Posted December 14, 2016 Posted December 14, 2016 It's a festive mood but people do not realise that nagging n pestering someone to have a girlfriend is actually very distressing not only for single straight guys and gays. WHY? Because it gives the impression that it is YOU and YOUR FAULT for either not seeking a partner which boils down to two things - what they are really QUESTIONING is not your single-hood but 1. Your (stubborn) attitude and/or 2. Your physical looks which you must be responsible for. Quote
qedcwc Posted December 14, 2016 Author Posted December 14, 2016 Ok guys. I created this thread not just to complain about possible nagging scenarios we might face as gays. Let's not divert too far from the topic. It is up to each of us how to enjoy the holidays, whether it's with family and friends, lover or in solitude. To each his own. And since it's the Year of the COCK next year, might as well enjoy it. Lol. Cheers! Quote "You like who you like lah. Who cares if someone likes the other someone because of their race? abang Posted December 14, 2016 Posted December 14, 2016 Well after I crossed that definitive 35 year old, the question stopped. Perhaps I was considered as "Beyond Economic Repair, BER" Funny enough, my late parents had never asked that question as they knew that I'm gay and my foreign AMDKs stayed with me whenever they are in town then. Considering that my dad was a China man but had never bother to ask about them... in fact, he would ensure that these AMDK are well-fed during their stay.. Quote

I love your definition: Year of COCK. Used to look forward to CNY, when I was a child - the only time I probably get to see a whole chicken (family was rather poor, so a whole chicken to me is like super WOW)... and of course, whatever ang pow money, goodies I have. Simple yet very meaningful joy to me. As I grow up a little more (pri and sec sch days), those irritating relatives will start to be very "concerned" about our well-being. To be put it crudely - just plain kaypoh - is your family is doing better, siblings and my studies etc... As I grow up (after NS and started working), our finances became better and came those - when marry ah, working as what ah, seeing anyone ah... YAWN!! From there on, no more visiting from my family to theirs and they stopped visiting too. *should have done that many moons ago right* And now, at my age of late 30s, whoever dares to come and kaypoh around, I will simply ignore or give them those reply that kept them dumbfounded. Now, CNY has, however another meaning altogether - keeping my Mom happy. Never have I went away on any holiday during this period (much as I love to) - simply because she just want to be home: the feeling of a New Year, with family members around her. What else to do? Eat more, run more and sleep more! Lol. Edited December 15, 2016 by thorzguy Quote

Guest Cathy Posted December 17, 2016 Posted December 17, 2016 CNY and other festives seasons are just gimmick. Anyone in business will know that these is the best time to reap the consumer. As for me, it has no meaning. Think about it, how many such festivities have came and went throught your life and it passes by so speedily making your wallet empty and the bosses fat. Thank about it again, how many time people well wishing you during these period, and does all these translated into concrete result? These kind of seasons, in each passing year, can only remind us that time is cruel. I am not at all apologetic about telling the truth here.
