Off topic a bit ... any reason or reasons why national swimmers must shave their armpit hair? IS it a must? Is it for hygiene, sportsman image etc.?

Maybe the reason is hydrodynamics, the resistance of hairs to the sliding in the water.  Pubic hairs are taken care of by the slick swimsuits and hairs on the head are neutralized by the swim cap.  Not so facial hair,  and we don't see many swimmers with facial hair.

Sports Hub contract worth S$193.7 million a year: Grace Fu

The 25-year arrangement for Sports Hub to design, build, finance and operate the Sports Hub facility is a public-private partnership (PPP) that started in 2014, the Minister for Culture, Community and Youth said in Parliament.

Sport Singapore is contracted to pay Sports Hub an annual availability payment of S$193.7 million, subject to inflation, Minister for Culture, Community and Youth Grace Fu said in Parliament on Monday (Feb 29). The 25-year arrangement for Sports Hub to design, build, finance and operate the Sports Hub facility is a public-private partnership (PPP), and the first annual availability payment was made in July 2014, she said in a written answer in response to Ms Sylvia Lim (Aljunied GRC).

The venue operator is required to hand back the facilities to the Government at the end of the 25-year concession period, Ms Fu added.

Over 25 years, wouldn’t that be like 4 billion dollars? SG rich sia. Can’t say we dun spend enuff for sports now eh, tho focus is a bit off.

I like his body type, hug can feel warm hard muscle and flesh, not all bones. Very nice to snuggle with in bed (speaking from experience), provides a sense of protection. Those who are too skinny no sense of 安全感

The mainstream press. Their male models are those Korean sissy skinny boys. Gives the impression that gays like skinny twinks. It may be intentional to portray gays as weak.

But we gays know better.

I am very upset, dissapointed and totally shock to my bones when I saw our Singapore Pride Joseph Schooling in Sunday Times today.

I see a thick layer of fat on his waist! What is happening to our Singapore Pride?

Is it because of his many many non sports commitments that distact him from training?

What is SportsSG doing? Why is SportsSG not making sure Schooling is in tip top condition? Why are they allowing our Singapore Pride going fat?

The world is laughing at us that we allow our Olympic champ be a blimp. We are becoming a laughing stock in the international scene.

Should the government not put effort in naturing our sportsman? What had our ministers done except posing for pictures when our Singapore Pride won gold!

You can hear the singgers when we travel overseas when foreigners discovered we are from Singapore.

SportsSG must buck up and not make us loose more face.

Dumb fuck of a post. 2 seconds of my life wasted ... urgh!

I was shocked.  What happened to him?  Hope he's not too complacent.

Thats why I am so dissapointed with SportSG. JS should be financially supported. I had previously pushed my proposal public but as usual, SportSG ignored my sound advise. They cannot thinl out of the box as they just want to stick to their kpi.

My sound proposal:

Jo needs to survive in this hush money driven country called Singapore. Jo need to feed himselve. If he is well funded, do you think he need to do so much endorsements? Jo even have to model and be a MMA event to feed himself! I cannot believe it!

What sportsg need to do is just to financially support Jo with a monthly allowence like $1500. This will set his mind at ease and financially support himself.

Sports facilities should be free for him to train. Sportsg can set aside a lane in queenstown swimming pool for jo to train without worry!

We have many swim coaches in sg..when I go for my weekly swims, I see many swim coach teaching swimming. Sportsg can place just 1 swim coach for jo so that he can improve his form.

Jo should also be given a clubfit membership for free to train in a clubfit gym.

All these monies, I estimate $1500( for jo), $1200( for swim coach) $500( swim pool) $60 ( clubfit gym) a total of $3260 monthly is a huge investment and expense to train Jo, but i believe its worth it as it will set Jo's mind at ease.

SportSG I had given you my advise buy are you listening????

Fina 100m fly finals...

China's Li Zhuhao, the runner-up here last year, won the title in 49.64sec. Australian Matthew Temple was second in 50.60sec and Belarussian Yauhen Tsurkin was third (50.66sec).

Yes, most champion swimmers are beefy.  I don't see Michael Phelps as having an attractive body.

That's why I turned my attention to Asian divers, Asian figure skaters, short track speed skaters and plenty of Asian gay porn actors :)

If you love Singapore so much, instead of spending your efforts on sports that are not too relevant why not try to improve your country's position on human rights by helping repeal 377A?

Geez. Why cant I advocate sports insteaf of 377a? Because Gays should put 377a above everything else?

What is wrong with my country's human rights? You should look into your country's human rights where school kids may not come home alive. Isnt it the rights if children to go to school safe without fear of being gunned down? But your countrt chose to protect the white members of nra instead. Clean your own backyard before trying to clean others.

The lack of human rights is more important than the lack of champion swimmers.  And it affects the prestige of your country much more.

It does not help you to justify your lack of human rights by bringing up the lack of human rights elsewhere. The problem of gun violence in the US is not a LACK of rights but the ABUSE of rights.  As you correctly say, the rights of children to be safe should precede the right of people to have guns.  I don't support the NRA, I am strongly against it.

But this is irrelevant.  The subject here is Singapore, its champion swimmer in particular,  and in my opinion this is more relevant to the individual itself, Schooling, than to the country. Your standard of life will not improve if Schooling wins,  while at least for gays, the standard of life will be much better without this 377A.

I have not been killed in my country for being gay.  But I remember the ugly sodomy laws we used to have in the past, similar to your 377A.

And I never cared if some American swimmer came in first place or not.

Of cos you have not been killed for being gay in your beloved USA. Just 52 lgbt were killed for being gay in 2017 in your USA, thats exclude those who survived a hate crime just for being gay.

Go make your country great again lah...tidy your own backyard..ps only in USA that your version of AG can be AG eventhough he was accused of sexual assult..but than again, your president can grap women by their pussy and still be head of state. Only in USA.

It's interesting that you mention 52 LGBTs killed in the US in 2017 (so far the deadliest year).

Considering that the population in the US is more than 60 times larger than in Singapore, the equivalence would be 0.87 LGTB killed in Singapore.  Just one person who dies from being LGTB makes the rate in your country higher than in the US.

I have not been killed, but equally relevant is that my gay sex is LEGAL in my country.  While it is not in Singapore.  And I can marry another man here, while they would like to burn you alive in a bonfire in front of your parliament if you attempted to do that.   About LGTB deaths in Singapore, here is a related article:  "How discrimination kills gay men in Singapore":

All right, Guest Fool,

Joseph Schooling could be gay, couldn't he?  (there is no man on the planet who couldn't be a gay in the closet)

So it is possible that by repealing 377A,  Joseph Schooling could be having the sex of his life without violating any Singapore law.

And this could also help his swimming performance, with more time to train instead of being incapacitated by gay lusts.

And if Joseph Schooling is gay, he should not have any problem visiting America, where gays are treated much better than in some parts of Asia, like Singapore.

Joseph Schooling in shock exit at World Championships, failing to make semi-finals of his pet event

SINGAPORE — Singapore’s Olympic gold medallist Joseph Schooling suffered a shock elimination from his pet event, the 100m butterfly, at the Fina World Championships in Gwangju, South Korea, on Friday morning (26 July).

The 24-year-old clocked 52.93 seconds in the morning heats, finishing only in eighth place in the seventh race of the heats. The timing is some way off his 2016 Olympic gold-winning time of 50.37sec in the same event in Rio de Janeiro.

As a result, he was only the 24th-fastest swimmer in the overall heats results, and missed out on being among the top 16 swimmers advancing to the semi-finals on Friday evening.

Australia’s David Morgan was the final qualifier for the semi-finals, clocking 52.44sec in his heat. American swim star Caeleb Dressel, already with three golds in this World Championships, topped the heats with a time of 50.28sec.

Schooling had won a joint-bronze in the same event at the 2017 World Championships in Budapest with Briton James Guy, with a time of 50.83sec.

Friday’s result represents a major setback for the Singaporean, who is bidding to defend his 100m fly gold medal at next year’s Tokyo Olympic Games.

In his last competitive outing, June’s Singapore National Swimming Championships, he clocked 54.63sec in his 100m fly race without tapering for the meet.

In last year’s Asian Games in Jakarta, he set a Games record of 51.04sec en route to winning gold in the event.

He clocked 54.63sec in his last competitive outing, the Singapore National Swimming Championships in June at the OCBC Aquatic Centre, but hadn't tapered for that meet. He won the same event at the Asian Games in Indonesia in 2018, in a Games record of 51.04sec.

Earlier on Monday, Schooling had also failed to make the last-16 of the 50m fly, when he clocked 23.73sec to finish 20th overall.

Hopefully this humiliating defeat gives Schooling the push to put his life in order and reverse the damage.   24 y.o. is not too late for this, even for a swimmer.  Michael Phelps won his last five gold medals at the age of 29.  Many top athletes have returned from crushing defeat to new heights.

Since winning the olympic gold, for the psat few years he had never come close to his best, not sure if his best is over.

When he go olympic in rio, no body expect him to win gold and there is no pressure, but now the pressure is on him, he is carrying the whole nation's hope and all the competitors are giving him extreme pressure too.

That could be his downfall:  not being able to handle pressure.

But he can find help, training for that too.

Aiyo..when I said he is getting fat and instead of training, he go model I was blasted. Now he lost and swam so badly, you guys turn tables. If my wise advise was heeded, jo would be winning! If my wise detailed comprehensive plan was followed, we will not be the international laughing stock in the world right now!!! Jo, performing so badly is a very embrassing situation as singapore's already very bad reputation will be further hit! Do not believe? Please pay attention to the immigation officers when you give them your passport, see how these immigration offixers either snigger or give you a pititul look with snide remarks!

he just doesn't have enough drive to go for all again unlike Phelps or Gross (the German one) who won several Olympics and Medals. he achieved what he wanted and maybe due to a Bond on some sponsoring Schooling has to go on, but the mood is not there.

Maybe he was doped. nowadays you never know.

Look at the Chinese guy, (Sun Yang) all in discussion. It is all very doubtful this swimming sport.

I didn't bet much on him all the time.

But I think a Singaporean could be a good swimmer. It is just training and going into the vibe.

During the 2016 Olympics, he was competing with other swimmers who had competed in multiple events (definitely much more than him).

He withdraw from a number of events (excluding relay) to conserve his energy for his pet event.

So even though he had won gold, it wasn't really a "YAY! HE WON GOLD!!!" but "OK he won gold" to me.

Why should Singaporean in particular be good swimmers?   Cannot people from any country be good swimmers?  All it takes is the availability of water.
