I cannot believe it that singapore is best 6 english in the world. I have many friends from taiwan, korea, hongkong and many others who can speak much better english compare to singaporean. Our teaxhing facilities are like from 3rd world country so how can our english be the 6th best in thr world. Does not make cents.

abang Posted December 26, 2017 Posted December 26, 2017 Alamak, aiyoh you guys are brutal.. Remember "To err is human, to forgive is divine!" Actually I can testify that English is taught properly in school. The standard of English is acceptable as long as students remain in school. The standard degenerates slowly but surely once they put on to the working environment. They are exposed to the mix of Singlish, Chinese dialects and Mandarin. This is quintessential the uniqueness of Singaporeans. Only when required, most can speak proper English and/or proper Mandarin/Malay/Tamil to others. Cut some slack, please.

Hello...do you know the ceo is paid multi million of dollars a year but cannot manage such simple things like Marry and Merry?this is such a disgrace for singapore! Our education system clearly failed in teaching as if it was done correctly, we will not be making such mistakes. Come on..it is not so difficult to change the education system, many people had contributed many ideas to our government but sadly fell on deaf ears.

abang Posted December 26, 2017 Posted December 26, 2017 Not everything in big companies are micro-managed. So unless the mistake was made by someone and it was not proof-read by another. Yes I do not accept such a blunder too but at least it was not detrimental to the regular operations. I am thankful to all the staff of essential services and all the sale staff who worked on weekends and public holidays. Their dedication should never be mired by such "non-chronic" errors. This spelling error is pardonable but not the frequent breakdowns!

It is only two words "MERRY CHRISTMAS!" If you can't get it right, what else can't you get right? Besides, have you heard of the word "Off-in-Lieu" for those who worked on weekend? I would rather admire volunteers working on weekend for the needy than civil servants who have been paid to work on weekend and I didn't even mention about their bonuses.
fab Posted December 26, 2017 Posted December 26, 2017 (edited) Abang is very kind but such mistake will make sg a laughing stock internationally especially when we pride ourselves to be an English speaking nation. This reminds me of a Chinese ad on sbs bus 我们很乐意为您们服务。seriously we should start to buck up.
