Miss Universe Spain crowned a transwoman on Friday, June 29, the first for the beauty pageant. Angela Ponce, 25, will represent Spain in the upcoming Miss Universe pageant scheduled end of the year. Her win comes as Pride Month comes to a close. The crowned winner was Sophida Kanchanarin who will later represent Thailand at the Miss Universe 2018. From left: Praveena Singh (3rd runner-up from Chaing-Mai), Thitaree Kasorn (1st runner-up from Bangkok), Sophida Kanchanarin (Miss Universe Thailand 2018 titleholder), Palita Puttharassu (2nd runner-up from Khon Kaen) and Valentina Giardullo Ploy (4th runner -up from Bangkok) Top favorites were Praveena and Valentina , both only got in the top 5 slots. I think Thailand has a strategy not to send their best this year that is why I agree with you that she is not that stunning but maybe it would be an Asian sweep again similar to their 2nd MU Pornthip Nakikurankanok in the 80’s not facially stunning but see they won. The format in Singapore is similar to other countries. In Singapore the aspiring candidates has to register in order to join Miss Singapore Universe. Usually it would give 50 to 70 registrants. From that huge number it will be trimmed down to half after careful deliberations based on the headshots, height, age , etc. From this half, they would fight for a slot to be part of the Miss Singapore Universe finals wherein only one winner will be crowned as Miss Singapore Universe and gets a chance to compete on Miss Universe 2018. Last 2017, there were a total of 20 finalists that were chosen to compete on the finals show out of the original 60 who registered. The daughter of a Chinese father and Irish Australia mother said she was delighted to "break the mould" in some ways and will be proud to represent Australia's ethnic diversity at the 2018 Miss Universe finals. Almost every other contestant comes out of a mold - they had undergone cosmetic enhancement to look that way. It would be wonderful if, during the initial rounds, the girls have to be interview sans make-up. Look at the Miss Hong Kong pageant over the years. Before the 80s, the beauties were there. 朱玲玲 from1977 is still the most remembered one for her poise and beauty. Nowadays, 猪扒 like 叶翠翠 can make it too! Last year's winner, Juliette had bucked tooth and hunched back! She placed ninth in the competition. In January 2018, she was crowned Miss Universe Vietnam 2017, additionally being awarded Miss Beach Beauty. She is the first Vietnamese woman from ethnic minority group to win Miss Universe Vietnam, coming from the Rade ethnic group.
