Anyone else turning their addiction towards the opening song and ending song of this series? I enjoy both songs very much, but I wonder how do you guys associate these songs with the storyline?

There was a short introduction of this online drama in the Life section of Straits Times today (this was one of the two dramas mentioned, the other was a K-drama). So will just based on this drama, below was what's in the papers....

 

 

Bromance and romance: A fine line divides the two, and a hot Chinese online show hops over the line with casual confidence.

 

Addicted is an Asian idol drama with a Beijing accent, a story of a rich, arrogant boy (Johnny Wang) and his new friend (Xu Weizhou), a poor, proud lad, in a high school in urban, northern China.

 

And when their teasing and fighting give way to something else, the show - which is banned in China but has found its way onto YouTube - retains a distinctive voice.

 

In a city where every guy is expected to be an alpha male, how does one boy even begin to rationalise his fascination with another?

 

Well, Wang doesn't talk about love, not for a long time, but he does admit he is "addicted" to Xu. Later, when he tries to describe Xu as his "wife", Xu complains and threatens to castrate him.

One thing many fans notice about Jingyu is he has slimmed down alot....even he himself admitted so, no/less time to gym and do fight training....and the recent busy schedule. I guess that's why i notice compared to one very early filming clip (probably around oct-nov last yr), his biceps were bigger...then later In the drama (actual filming), abit less muscular.....now even the face look slim...sometimes look tired too. 

 

About the songs.....one day on the bus, i overhead the opening song from behind. I guess it's not just radio broadcast b'cos i heard abit of dialogue though not too loud....so someone was watching it too. I guess compared to other drama serials or movies (gay-themed)...if one doesn't skip all of the opening song, it's quite obvious to fellow fans (of this drama) that u are watching it too. Unless u use headset/earplug.

Assuming the song is written from BLY's point of view, it is a way for him to acknowledge GH's deep affection towards him, but he is still struggling to accept the love thus the pain.

I skipped the songs totally while binge watching during the first round, I might be on the verge of re-watching again, this time I will not skip the songs anymore as I have started to like them more

I specifically like 2 songs in this drama.  

 

One is the theme song (hai ruo you eng).  Most youtube viewers translate it as 'If the ocean has a reason'.  My mandarin is not good.  But I think it is obvious the meaning is 'if Gu Hai has Ruo Eng', which means 'if the two can be together'.   If you listen to the song through the MTV and not through the drama, there are additional lyrics which says something like 'to ignore all the gossips and rumors, I just want to grow old with you'.  How true are those 'gossips and rumors'.   As a gay person, I think no matter how much we say we are out of the closet or do not care about how others think about our sexual orientation, subconsciously, it can be very tiring to carry it through the years.  And how heart warming to hear that one wants to ignore those social pressure and just want to grow old with his beloved.

 

The second song is ‘Only you matters to me’.  I think the original singer is Teresa Teng.  For my entire life, I always feel this is such an effeminate song.  But after hearing them sing in the simplified version (as shared in my earlier post), it became such a sweet song full of bromance.   Never expect when 2 man sing a love song, it can be so sweet and beautiful.

read the novel online and you will find it more interesting. there are some further explanations which the scenes may not address. i skipped several parts in the novel which are not related to the 2 main casts and erotic descriptions. overall the storyline is rather interesting and i really hope that they can be less obstinate as far as the relationship goes. haha!

These 2 scenes should be for the next season where Guhai and BLY, due to strong objection from Guhai's dad, left home and fled to Qinghai.

One is where they were strolling on the beach and the other one, they camped overnight on the beach in order to watch the first sunrise

the interview clip was released yesterday, and jingyu commented late last night on weizhou's weibo with a photo of two bent metal rods. haha!

Funny how East Asian young women get so excited about yaoi themes. It's also interesting to note that Asian LGBT films tend to focus on the love and less on the sex. In that sense, Brokeback is atypical in a western context, but then again, it was directed by a Taiwanese.

 

Addicted follows this theme as it portrays a gay relationship away from the clubbing and ONS. The lead actors are also believable as neither are classically handsome but have excellent chemistry between them.

I understand Jingyu (as newbie) can't wait around for just Addicted (only one season per yr)....so unless he's totally not interested anymore....still hope they can arrange a schedule for both to act together....even if got slight delay in showing it next yr.

 This scene happened before the the medical checkup - cut from episode 5

 

Why was it removed? Well well....the company is relying on DVD sales to make some money. The problem now is that the production company might not be able to get a permit number for selling the DVD in China, something like Singapore where MDA has to issue a sticker before a video product can go on sales.

Wonder what's Weizhou doing in South Korea? Another interview or some MV/ad? Pity Chen wen who's with him on this trip....hardly any fans.

 

Think they have a certain amount of popularity in S.Korea....even this appeared in a famous place there.

 

JIngyu also in airport....Beijing. He was asked about his metal pole response. 

 

Some said Weizhou kept touching his ears when saying those comments....a sign of not being honest or at least not 100%....well, just for humor.

Taiwan or Hong Kong as these in two places/regions/country gay pornographic materials are allowed. Hopefully some overseas broadcaster from Thailand? As long as the production company sees a demand is there. The chances for a season 2 is higher.

Their best bet to get the series released and distributed would be in Taiwan or Hong Kong I think, provided someone there is willing to make that offer to them.

Thanks for the trivia! I guess the big bulge is both a blessing and curse for him, now you know why JY kicked him at the wrong place numerous times during their playful behind-the-scene moments! LOL!

Yup, most probably it's a new actor for Gu Hai.

 

The photos that were taken at a beach will be used for 許魏洲 EP and maybe 慢慢走 MV. Their last collaboration, maybe?
