I previously did not know much about Mondale beyond the basics ... Carter's Vice President, lost his own Presidential race after admitting taxes needed to be raised to pay for the reckless military spending and greedy millionaire tax cuts from Reagan's first term, and first major party candidate to choose a female running mate ... but he really did so much more in a very long political career. America seems to have really missed out on a man who could have been a great President simply because too many voters prefer lies over honesty. So sad. Belated condolences to his family and other loved ones.

I loved Sonny Chiba's films so much when I was a kid. "The Street Fighter" really got me interested in Japanese martial arts movies and he had an unmatched knack for turning over-the-top violence into an artform. I hope at least a few anti-vaccination idiots are chastened by his death, because if Sonny Chiba couldn't kick CoViD's ass, they have no chance at all.

While most Western fans know him for playing Hattori Hanzo in the "Kill Bill" films, or Boss Kamata in "The Fast and the Furious: Tokyo Drift," his first Hollywood movies seem to be "Aces: Iron Eagle III" with Louis Gossett Jr (1992) and "Immortal Combat" with pro wrestling icon Rowdy Roddy Piper (1994). And of course he is Japan's greatest martial arts star. RIP.

Comedian and former "Saturday Night Live" star Norm MacDonald has died at the age of 61 after battling cancer for close to a decade. One of my favorite skits he did on SNL was a spoof of "West Side Story" and similar musicals.

MacDonald also gained notoriety for his portrayal of former US Senator Bob Dole during the 1996 Preisdential election against Bill Clinton.

Another recurring bit MacDonald was noted for was spoofing "Celebrity Jeopardy" with impersonations of film stars like Burt Reynolds.

RIP Norm MacDonald.

SINGAPORE - Radio veteran, singer, club DJ and writer Chris Ho died of stomach cancer on the morning of Sept 27.

A post on his Facebook page, as well as on radio station Mediacorp Gold 905's page, stated that he had been battling cancer for the past two months.

His death has sparked an outpouring of tributes from friends, fans and colleagues in the media and entertainment industry, many of whom were not aware that he was ill.

Ho, also known as X'Ho, was a presenter on Gold 905's evening drive-time show, Homestretch With Chris Ho, but it is understood that he had not been on air for several months.

He was an inspiration to many in the radio industry, says Bernard Lim, program director of radio stations Kiss 92 and ONE FM 91.3.

"Chris Ho has always been a mentor and inspiration to me. Many years ago, he roused my passion in radio and landed me my first freelance job in Rediffusion back in the 1980s.

"It is truly shocking and sad to hear the news. We have lost a great radio voice in Singapore."

As a singer, Ho was the frontman for Zircon Lounge, a 1980s band that has been credited as one of the pioneers of the alternative music scene in Singapore.

He has released several solo albums, including Singapore Uber Alles in 2011.

rk_skew-me-you-rebel_270921.jpg Ho, also known as X'Ho, was a presenter on Gold 905's evening drive-time show, Homestretch With Chris Ho. PHOTO: ST FILE

Ho also wrote about music and other subjects for publications such as The Straits Times and now-defunct music magazine BigO.

His books include Skew Me, You Rebel Meh? (1998), in which he wrote about socio-political issues in Singapore.

Ho was famously secretive about his age, but according to close friends, he was in his 60s when he died. He is survived by his mother.

A wake will be held at Ruby Room, Singapore Casket on Sept 27 from 6 to 11pm and from Sept 28 to 30, 11am to 11pm.

Sean Connery: James Bond actor dies aged 90

Published
31 October 2020

Sir Sean Connery has died at the age of 90, his family has said.

The Scottish actor was best known for his portrayal of James Bond, being the first to bring the role to the big screen and appearing in seven of the spy thrillers.

Sir Sean died peacefully in his sleep in the Bahamas, having been "unwell for some time", his son said.

His acting career spanned seven decades and he won an Oscar in 1988 for his role in The Untouchables.

Sir Sean's other films included The Hunt for Red October, Highlander, Indiana Jones and the Last Crusade and The Rock.

Jason Connery said his father "had many of his family, who could be in the Bahamas, around him" when he died overnight in Nassau. Much of the Bond film Thunderball had been filmed there.

He said: "We are all working at understanding this huge event as it only happened so recently, even though my dad has been unwell for some time.

"A sad day for all who knew and loved my dad and a sad loss for all people around the world who enjoyed the wonderful gift he had as an actor."

His publicist Nancy Seltzer said: "There will be a private ceremony followed by a memorial yet to be planned once the virus has ended."

He leaves his wife Micheline and sons Jason and Stephane.

Daniel Craig, the current James Bond, said Sir Sean was "one of the true greats of cinema".

"Sir Sean Connery will be remembered as Bond and so much more," he said.

"He defined an era and a style. The wit and charm he portrayed on screen could be measured in megawatts; he helped create the modern blockbuster.

"He will continue to influence actors and film-makers alike for years to come. My thoughts are with his family and loved ones."

In reference to Sir Sean's love of golf, he added: "Wherever he is, I hope there is a golf course."

Dame Shirley Bassey, who sang the themes to three Bond films including Goldfinger, paid tribute saying: "I'm incredibly saddened to hear of Sean's passing.

"My thoughts are with his family. He was a wonderful person, a true gentleman and we will be forever connected by Bond."

Sir Sean, from Fountainbridge in Edinburgh, had his first major film appearance in 1957 British gangster film No Road Back.

He first played James Bond in Dr No in 1962 and went on to appear in five other official films - and the unofficial Never Say Never Again in 1983.

He was largely regarded as being the best actor to have played 007 in the long-running franchise, often being named as such in polls.

Connery made the character of James Bond his own, blending ruthlessness with sardonic wit. Many critics didn't like it and some of the reviews were scathing. But the public did not agree.

The action scenes, sex and exotic locations were a winning formula.

In truth, his Bond is now a museum piece; the portrayal of women impossibly dated. The action scenes are still thrilling, but the sex too often bordered on the non-consensual.

Thankfully, its been a while since 007 slapped a woman on the backside and forced a kiss. But Connery's performance was of its time, enjoyed by millions of both sexes and gave the silver screen a 20th Century icon.

He was knighted by the Queen at Holyrood Palace in 2000. In August, he celebrated his 90th birthday.

Bond producers Michael G Wilson and Barbara Broccoli said they were "devastated by the news" of his death.

They said: "He was and shall always be remembered as the original James Bond whose indelible entrance into cinema history began when he announced those unforgettable words 'the name's Bond... James Bond'.

"He revolutionised the world with his gritty and witty portrayal of the sexy and charismatic secret agent. He is undoubtedly largely responsible for the success of the film series and we shall be forever grateful to him."

Star Wars director George Lucas, who also created the Indiana Jones character, said Sir Sean "left an indelible mark in cinematic history".

"He will always hold a special place in my heart as Indy's dad. With an air of intelligent authority and sly sense of comedic mischief, only someone like Sean Connery could render Indiana Jones immediately into boyish regret or relief through a stern fatherly chiding or rejoiceful hug.

"I'm thankful for having had the good fortune to have known and worked with him. My thoughts are with his family."

  • You Only Live Twice (1967)
  • Diamonds are Forever (1971)
  • Never Say Never Again (1983)

Sir Sean was a long-time supporter of Scottish independence, saying in interviews in the run-up to the 2014 referendum that he might return from his Bahamas home to live in Scotland if it voted to break away from the rest of the UK.

Scotland's First Minister Nicola Sturgeon said: "I was heartbroken to learn this morning of the passing of Sir Sean Connery. Our nation today mourns one of her best loved sons.

"Sean was born into a working class Edinburgh family and through talent and sheer hard work, became an international film icon and one of the world's most accomplished actors. Sean will be remembered best as James Bond - the classic 007 - but his roles were many and varied.

"He was a global legend but, first and foremost, a patriotic and proud Scot - his towering presence at the opening of the Scottish Parliament in 1999 showed his love for the country of his birth. Sean was a lifelong advocate of an independent Scotland and those of us who share that belief owe him a great debt of gratitude."

Alex Salmond, former first minister of Scotland, who was close friends with Sir Sean, described him as "the world's greatest Scot, the last of the real Hollywood stars, the definitive Bond".

He said: "Sean Connery was all of these things but much more. He was also a staunch patriot, a deep thinker and outstanding human being."

He added: "'Scotland Forever' wasn't just tattooed on his forearm but was imprinted on his soul."

Michael Nesmith from 1960s boy band the Monkees has died at the age of 78. His passing was preceded by those of bandmates Davy Jones in 2012 and Peter Tork in 2018, leaving Micky Dolenz as the final surviving member, and came less than a month after the final duo's farewell concert.

The Monkees were among the first bands to be publicly acknowledged as "manufactured" in the sense that they were brought together by a television network looking to create a program about a band that wanted to be like the Beatles but could never quite get there no matter what they did.

Dolenz and Jones were actors first, while Nesmith and Tork came up through the music scene, and Nesmith led a fierce fight against the original producers (who only viewed them as singers) to let them play their own instruments and ultimately take more creative control over their tunes.

The one thing that even their biggest critics could never deny is that children and teenagers loved the Monkees during their heyday, a few of whom grew up to be part of some of the world's biggest bands themselves, and credited the "Pre-Fab Four" with inspiring them to pursue their dreams.

Bette White unrecognisable on the Carol Burnett Show in the late 70s.

In those days, it was okay to not even have one colored person on the cast , throughout the 1 hour show.

Today, it is suicide for a show to not have diversity.

Cancel culture will see to that.

I used to have some conversations with Anne Rice years ago on some threads about religion in the forum Amazon maintained for its members.  She was extremely intelligent and had tons of common sense.  RIP!

How sad!  I didn't see much of Bob Saget, since I didn't live in America during his successful early years,  but I have known to appreciate what a good and kind person he was!  His face, young and older, tells it all.

Reality of life:  good persons reach the same destiny in this world as the bad ones do.

?url=http%3A%2F%2Fdingyue.ws.126.net%2F2022%2F0126%2F2c2f9ebaj00r6bijy000lc000hs00a0g.jpg&thumbnail=650x2147483647&quality=80&type=jpg

?url=http%3A%2F%2Fdingyue.ws.126.net%2F2022%2F0126%2F5797d821j00r6bijy001ac000hs00fkg.jpg&thumbnail=650x2147483647&quality=80&type=jpg

?url=http%3A%2F%2Fdingyue.ws.126.net%2F2022%2F0126%2F64300597j00r6bijz001bc000dq00bag.jpg&thumbnail=650x2147483647&quality=80&type=jpg

?url=http%3A%2F%2Fdingyue.ws.126.net%2F2022%2F0126%2F22d6b633j00r6bijz000pc000ey00bog.jpg&thumbnail=650x2147483647&quality=80&type=jpg

?url=http%3A%2F%2Fdingyue.ws.126.net%2F2022%2F0126%2F1fcff08cj00r6bijz002qc000hs00npg.jpg&thumbnail=650x2147483647&quality=80&type=jpg

?url=http%3A%2F%2Fdingyue.ws.126.net%2F2022%2F0126%2F04aeb884j00r6bijz0029c000e600ivg.jpg&thumbnail=650x2147483647&quality=80&type=jpg

?url=http%3A%2F%2Fdingyue.ws.126.net%2F2022%2F0126%2F22f8fca0j00r6bik0002ec000hs00tlg.jpg&thumbnail=650x2147483647&quality=80&type=jpg

?url=http%3A%2F%2Fdingyue.ws.126.net%2F2022%2F0126%2F07e34711j00r6bik1001qc000hs00seg.jpg&thumbnail=650x2147483647&quality=80&type=jpg

?url=http%3A%2F%2Fdingyue.ws.126.net%2F2022%2F0126%2F8856d2a2j00r6bik10018c000dq009vg.jpg&thumbnail=650x2147483647&quality=80&type=jpg

?url=http%3A%2F%2Fdingyue.ws.126.net%2F2022%2F0126%2F629b27d3j00r6bik10013c000hs00hvg.jpg&thumbnail=650x2147483647&quality=80&type=jpg

?url=http%3A%2F%2Fdingyue.ws.126.net%2F2022%2F0126%2F07e34711j00r6bik1001qc000hs00seg.jpg&thumbnail=650x2147483647&quality=80&type=jpg

?url=http%3A%2F%2Fdingyue.ws.126.net%2F2022%2F0126%2F8856d2a2j00r6bik10018c000dq009vg.jpg&thumbnail=650x2147483647&quality=80&type=jpg

?url=http%3A%2F%2Fdingyue.ws.126.net%2F2022%2F0126%2F629b27d3j00r6bik10013c000hs00hvg.jpg&thumbnail=650x2147483647&quality=80&type=jpg

Probably not a well-known figure among BW members . . .

Scott Hall (1958 - 2022) was one of my favourite WWE wrestlers.

During a time when many WWE wrestlers were obese and out of shape, Scott Hall was one of the few who always kept himself in good shape.

He was extremely tall even by American wrestling standards, and had a nice hairy physique that added to his overall manliness and sexiness!

Used to fantasise being fucked by him!

Unfortunately, he was plagued by drugs and alcoholism, and could never shake it off, until during his final days.

Rest in peace, Scott.

'One-armed Swordsman' Jimmy Wang Yu dies at 80

TAIPEI - Veteran Taiwanese actor Jimmy Wang Yu, best known for playing the "one-armed swordsman" in the 1967 movie of the same name, died at 80 on Tuesday (April 5).

His death was announced by his eldest daughter, singer Linda Wong, on social media. Wong, 53, said she and her family will miss her father, who had been unwell in the last six years.

"We also believe that his handsome and heroic image as the one-armed swordsman will forever live in the history of films and the hearts of fans."

Wong posted three photos of her father, including one of him in the 1969 movie Return Of The One-Armed Swordsman.

Born Wang Cheng-chuan, he joined the entertainment industry in 1963 and was selected in 1967 by director Chang Cheh, dubbed the godfather of Hong Kong swordfighting films, to play the lead role in One-Armed Swordsman.

The film broke the million-dollar box-office record for Shaw Brothers and earned Chang the title of "Million-Dollar Box-Office Director". Chang died at 79 in 2002.

The movie also established

Wang as a star and set the template for bloody, vengeance-themed Hong Kong action films for the next three decades.

The film led to two sequels - the 1969 movie starring Wang and The New One-Armed Swordsman in 1971, which stars John Chiang and Ti Lung.

Wang went on to star in more than 40 martial arts and action movies in the 1970s such as One Armed Boxer (1972), Master Of The Flying Guillotine (1976) and

The Deadly Silver Spear (1977), before slowing down and appearing in just a handful of movies in the 1980s and 1990s.

He left the industry in 1997 to become a businessman.

In 2011, he returned to acting in director Peter Chan's action movie Wu Xia, which starred Donnie Yen and Takeshi Kaneshiro.

Wang's final movie was horror film Soul in 2013, which also starred Joseph Chang.

Both Wu Xia and Soul earned Wang acting nominations at Taiwan's Golden Horse Awards, and he was given the Lifetime Achievement Award at the Golden Horse Awards in 2019.

Wang had been in ill health in the last few years.

He had a mild stroke in 2011 and suffered a second stroke four years later after he fell unconscious at the Bangkok airport in Thailand in December 2015.

He underwent two emergency brain surgical operations and had not been seen in public after he returned to Taiwan in March 2016.

Wang married actress Jeanette Lin Tsui in 1969 before they divorced in 1975.

Lin died at age 60 in 1995.

Beside Linda Wong, they have two other daughters - Carol and Maria - who are not in the entertainment industry.

Wang married former flight attendant Wang Kai-chen in 1981 before they divorced after he caught her having an affair in 1999.

Celebrated Hong Kong actor Kenneth Tsang was pronounced dead on Wednesday after being found unconscious at a quarantine hotel in Tsim Sha Tsui, sourced told the Post. He was 86.

The development came as health authorities on Wednesday confirmed 430 new Covid-19 cases, 83 more than the day before, and reported eight deaths related to the virus.

The city’s tally of infections since the pandemic began stood at 1,203,068, with 9,282 related fatalities. Schools also reported seven pupils and a teacher tested positive.

According to a government source, staff from the Department of Health carried out a regular check on guests at the Kowloon Hotel, and there was no answer from Tsang’s room.

The insider said hotel staff were then called to open the door and he was found unconscious inside, shortly after midday. He was certified dead at the scene, he said. A rapid antigen test Tsang took on Tuesday had come back negative.

The reporter fails his maths. He's 87, not 86.

In case if anyone here is a Depeche Mode fan, or listens to their songs, the keyboardist had passed away on 26 May 2022, a few weeks ago. Sad to hear this as  i have been listening to them since young (mainly the 80s era).

Guest ffffffff

Olivia Newton John - the first country singer I ever listened to. My dad's cassette with the cover of her in blue denim.

Love her because she is so simple, sweet and unpretentious. And she did not oversing. Her records were great but ONJ live in concert is even better! Her voice sounded so much more powerful.

Goodbye Sandy. RIP
