Anyone saw Boots?

Show is about a young innocent gay Cope who joined the US Marines boot camp with his straight best friend Ray.

What I really love about the show was about how the recruits bond over the tough training and brought back memories of our NS days - the clowning around and bravado.

A second highlight of the show for me is the platonic friendship between Cope and Ray. While many gays have best friends who are straight, it is rare that they are open to their best friends about their sexuality.  And no, this is not the case where the straight friend turns out to be gay either. In fact Ray is purely straight and knows that Cope is gay and is supportive of him.

(Ha ha the only thing I wonder is why Cope is not attracted to Ray cos I think Ray is really hawt 😻 I think I’m gonna get wet dreams of Ray, though I’m too old for that ha.). But then again, I’m glad that the show depicts such a rare precious pure friendship between friends who learn to protect each other and at the same time when to let each other learn to stand on their own two feet.

I love how Boots doesn’t sensationalise, just honours the kind of friendship many of us dream of where being gay isn’t a twist, just a truth. Cope and Ray’s dynamic felt like a love letter to all the quiet support we’ve received (or wished for) in uniform. And yes, Ray is dangerously crushable. But maybe that’s the point: desire doesn’t always need to complicate connection.

Wow you have a way with words … “dangerously crushable” hits the nail right on the head.

watching the last episode of boots now

dont want it to end

hope they will make season two

or do a prequel or something

I hope so too.
Boots is based on the book The Pink Marine which is an autobiography of the author.  Hence not sure if there will be a Part 2 as there is no source material.
The book author was also part of the script team for Boots, so I think a large part also depends on whether he feels that there is more story to share.

I hope so too.

Anyone watched the Resurrected ? Been showing up on my IG feed for a while

Lotsa of twist and turns after episode 1 so the plot is quite unpredictable. However, it has a non-ending I feel. Here's hoping for Season 2. Main villain is really hot though.

Decided to watch after it won the Taiwan Golden Bell Awards (equivalent to the US Emmy). Storyline was quite predictable but cast and acting was definitely good. 谢盈萱  is just so natural in every role that she acted .

Disappointing news. Was hoping to see how Sullivan (Max Parker)'s storyline plays out.

As the Netflix series Boots is based on primarily on the boot camp portion of Greg Cope White's memoir, The Pink Marine, I guess can read the book to find out more about Cope’s life in the military after boot camp.

However there are key differences between the Netflix series and the memoir below (from Google AI):

Scope: The series focuses almost entirely on the intense experience of boot camp (The Crucible and earlier training) and the relationships formed there. The memoir, however, covers White's full journey through boot camp to manhood, including his six years of service and coming out later in life.

Characters and Storylines: While the main character, Cameron Cope, is based on Greg Cope White, the show's creator expanded the story to explore an entire platoon with several new or composite characters. Unfortunately the Sullivan character is added to the series and not in the original memoir :(

Time Period: The series is set in 1990, the era immediately before the "Don't Ask, Don't Tell" policy, to heighten the stakes for its closeted characters. In real life, White served from 1979 to 1985.

The Ending: The series ends with the recruits becoming Marines and a news report setting up a potential (though now canceled) Season 2 plot in the Persian Gulf. The memoir goes beyond the initial training and covers his life and career in the military until he was honorably discharged as a sergeant.

I see. while they showed Sullivan going off the rails in the last few episodes, the ending where he ran off just felt off. in hindsight, might be a good thing that there's no season 2 as I have no idea how they are going to satisfactory address his return if any and the writer did mention season 2 was really going to be about them going to war.

The Netflix series was meant to depict the 1990s period just prior to the implementation of “Don’t ask Don’t tell (DADT)” policy in 1994 for gay people in the US military.  Sullivan was introduced as a fictional character in the series to depict the challenges faced by gay men then in the military as they would be dishonorably discharged if they admitted that they were gay when asked (since they would have lied that they were not gay to be enlisted in the military).

I suppose if there was a Season 2, they may also plan to include in the storyline the implementation of DADT.  While Sullivan may then have less concern about being “asked” about his sexuality with DADT, he still cannot be openly gay as he can be discharged with “less than honorable” status if enough evidence is found for homosexual acts.  I suppose this is an angle the series can explore further, although it is moot now that Season 2 is cancelled.
