Check are there mealy bugs underneath, as it might be ants r sapping their fluid - an indication but if it is a trail of army seen all the time, most will kill them, not sure why though (cos I have not seen ants not appearing in the env eg everywehere in sg bus stop there are ants, on beach or children playgrd) old sch will say keep it then (this is how nature works) but timids and the kiasees will say otherwise Link to comment Share on other sites More sharing options...

Just take note that ants can protect honeydew-producing, sucking insects. These bugs do a great deal of damage. If you manage your ant populations, you will be closer to managing scale, mealybug, aphid, and whitefly populations in the garden. Just dont let the ant population get out of control! What zi do for my backyard is that I apply sanitary, and chemical controls. Exclude ants in my garden by wrapping trunks or stems with a collar of heavy paper, surveyors tape, or fabric tree wrap. Then, I can apply a very sticky barrier like Tanglefoot to the paper, tape or fabric. If not, you can always trim your plants so that they do not touch other plants or structures. To keep ants out of my house, I caulk potential entry points, keep ant food sources (sweets and proteins) closed tightly, and limit their access to water. All in all, Keep it clean! Lol much The ants should be deep inside your pot because they will be busy tunneling. That is the good part about the ants because it loosens the soil, which is better for irrigation, Yes, do ensure the pots do not touch each other, at least the affected pot with ants, You can use a mild pesticide, that will not endanger your bloom. Conversely, you can repot with new soil, if the ants bother you too much. Have fun gardening, I had a lot of fun planting bunga telang, the blue flowers that I use for making ice blue drinks. If repotting is too much of a hassle, you can also try this. around the areas of your pot (with ants), use those anti-ants chalk, or you can draw on the pot itself. That way, the ants wont be able to form a trail outside your pot. If your bloom os not edible flowers or fruits, these chalk wont be a problem at all. Besides, you are using it externally, not in the pot itself, Btw , some brands call it Chinese chalk or miraculous chalk. Lol much, When I was residing in Melbourne I was saddened to know that the ant chalk is toxic and banned from most Western nations. But guess what, it is still widely available via the internet and Chinatown markets. In sg, you wont have a problem buying them from those sundry stores, like chinese provision shops. Upon investigation found ants and eggs and almost no roots in my dead plants. So my guess is maybe the ants had built and lay eggs causing the roots of my plants to die off slowly. So what may look like 'small' matters, it can grow to be 'BIG' issues. I also tend to bring in my potted plants and give them a good shower once a while. Read somewhere that this may help drown what's not required inside the soil as well as bring in fresh oxygen to promote roots growing.
