Hey guys,

Have you any idea of any local shops selling "Dirty Loops" LP... I had a friend who borrowed my LP and has since disappeared 😕,  thinking of buying a replacement LP... or CD.

Borrowed and disappeared?  Hmm...  I hope your friend is compensating you for this loss!

For this reason or fear of getting my vinyl records scratched or damaged, I don't lend out my vinyl collection to my friends at all.  I mean we can't expect everyone to take care of the records like we do and accidents do happen when handling them.  Am I the only selfish one here?

I've never lent any of my LP's previously,  till this friend... now no more! pleaded for some of my unique albums to take samples for his dj mixing.

He returned three of the five albums, all covered in grimy fingerprints and scratches!... now totally unplayable on my turntable.

He faked a pic of his supposed HiFi turntable...LOL... turns out it was a cheapo Stanton with a bad stylus.

Lesson learnt I guess.

Anyway I've got friends who'd bring their albums to my place and have an afternoon sharing music.

But I'm really not keen to play my albums on another turntable for fear of that stylus damaging my LP... unless he's got a good turntable stylus.

I wouldn't say we're being selfish by choosing not to lend our LP collection, for the exact reason you've mentioned... and it surely pisses off wannabe 'dj' friends.. hehe.

A dj friend would complain how noisy his records sounded,  so I cleaned it for him, and it sounded good after a through cleaning.

Now I charge him $3 to clean an album using my Ultrasonic LP cleaner... 😆 lol... these people only know how to use LP's and will not bother to clean it.

@mike_amk I was in the Rochor aeea and scooted over to Hear Records at Burlington Square to browse.  Unfortunately, I didn't see the Dirty Loops LP you were looking for.  I hope you had better luck??  : P

Hey guys,

Just happy that the Dirty Loops CD's I've ordered have just arrived.

Sadly the LP's are all sold out, even the one featuring Cory Wong.

Anyway , I ran into a massive problem while testing out my 5.1 surround sound speakers...

The front and a rear speakers blew out!!

So I've just managed to buy Q-Acoustics speakers as the replacement and a Marantz AV Amp to replace the Yamaha that I think may have  contributed to the speakers blowing out!...sad ...a couple K's down the toilet.

I'll be busy taking down the speakers and having to re-drill the walls to mount these new speakers...  and hope the amp drives these Q's well.

Cheers 🥂 Mike

Merry belated Christmas & Happy belated New Year @SurpriseMEinHere & @mike_amk!

I've had a very cold Christmas, but still not cold enough for it to be a White Christmas unfortunately.  I've just got back from the UK yesterday and as usual, I need to make space again to welcome my expanded collection!  LOL

For now, keep spinning indeed and have a vinyl-ful 2025!

Hey Guys,

How are you doing... hope all is good.

I've just stepped back home after almost two months being away looking after my Mum, and the sight of the mess I left my apartment in when I dashed out that day, was rather overwhelming to take.

I've switched off the lights so as not to look at the bloody mess out there, and gone into my music room to listen to something from Secret Garden to calm my Soul.

Goodnight

Wait ...  so how much is the shipping?  Half of the vinyl cost or lesser?  IF it's the lesser, I'd definitely get it cos the vinyl is so beautiful.  If you stare at it long enough while it's spinning and playing ...  you could conduct your own hypnotherapy session ...  waaaaaahahahaha  ...  j/k.

Jokes aside, it is trulyna fine looking vinyl for sure.

Shipping wise, the more items you buy at a go will help reduce the cost of shipping per item.  Regardless, it's definitely less than half the cost of the vinyl.

For best hypnotic effects, get a Zoetrope vinyl like this one here...

I've been so caught up looking after my parent, that I've put my turntable aside for the moment as well as wiring up my home theater system... I'm just too exhausted to do it myself.

I did however manage to go down to Roxy music last week, and bought a few CD's.

Anyone here listens to vinyl records? Be it chinese or english songs. Would like to find a fellow vinyl lover here. PM me

I occasionally listen to some of my old vinyl records of classical music.  I have preserved a good turntable just for this purpose.  But I would not buy new vinyl records.  This may be because I am an electrical engineer who has been interested in audio for many decades,  and I cannot see the practicality to choose the old over the new,  the analog recording over the digital one.

There are opinions that analog recordings are superior because there are no digitizing steps. Everyone is entitled to this opinion, but I doubt that there is any basis for it.

Interesting product, but I wonder if it will damage the vinyls...

How interesting!  This is the first time I hear about this toy,  the little truck that turns around the center of the stationary record to play it.  I imagine the complexity to keep reducing its velocity as it approaches the center, to preserve the tuning of the music.  I suspect this works with the feedback from the angle of the front wheels as any lateral deflection of the stylus adjusts this to keep moving over the track.  What a complication!!!

This device cannot be anything more than a toy to impress our acquaintances if we play a record with it.  Instead of this crude toy,  industry should perhaps develop more advanced and inexpensive laser turntables, that don't have a physical contact with the disk.

BUT THEN...  dear vinyl record lovers...  how about becoming digital audio lovers?  I suspect that every piece of music that exists in vinyl can also be found in digital form.  I am SO PLEASED with my premium subscription to YouTube, where I can find any imaginable recording of classical music, often enhanced with image (video),  with a quality that leaves me nothing to be desired.  :)

I found another player of stationary records.

Forgive me,  dear lovers of vinyl records,  but I cannot imagine something more stupid than this:

This could be something for little children to play with on a record that is ready to be thrown in the garbage.  But I would not give this to my young grandchildren.

I still have an old MP3 player, a cowlon IAudio, that is a fraction of the size of this contraption and stores hundreds of recordings,  which it plays with digital precision and high sound quality.

Hey Steve,

How are you, hope all is great.

I guess I've seen many attempts to create a device that plays a vinyl LP in some fun way... and it's a hoot just looking at these contraptions playing an LP.

A fun device nonetheless.. but nobody would care to hear the sound coming from it, as a sensible turntable design would surely sound better.

While online streaming platforms have a wide selection of generally popular music genres,  there still is a vast catalogue of older music on LP's that were never put on CD's or digitised yet, as the master tapes don't exist.

I had a friend who has the entire LP collection of a certain singer, and was approached by the record label to lend them his collection as they planned to release a compleat greatest hits CD.

The CD was released and a credit with his name was included for using his LP collection to produce the CD set.

I too have LP's that aren't found on streaming platforms, at best I could record a copy onto a CD for regular playback,  but I'll still have a special evening when I listen to that LP.

Yeh... streaming has improved in sound quality,  but Vinyl is always going to be special for those of us who love the involvement needed with this music media.

And it has a sound quality thats different.

To each his own... let the music play on.

Cheers 🥂 Mike

Mike_amk,  I am in complete agreement with you.  I also reach out to my collection of records in moments of nostalgia to hear some beloved old disk, and I feel fine with the sound from my these old records.   I am fortunate that practically all classical music since the inception of recordings  has been digitized,  and much of it has been even processed to improve its quality,  since old master tapes are not perfect.

There is an added bonus in modern digital recordings that is the video.  With a modern big TV,  to listen to some concert from a video on YouTube is nearly equivalent to being live in the audience,  with the added advantage of seeing the artists captured nearby in ways that cannot be seen by the audience.

Hey Steve,

You know... I went through a process of trimming down my LP collection, and whenever I found a CD reissue of an album i had, I sold my LP... and from 3000, I'm now at just a few hundred LP's that I'll never replace.

The awful thing was that CD's weren't as long lasting as it was purported to be, and I had discovered a couple of my expensive classical CD sets destroyed by oxidative rot!!

I was so sad as there aren't any reissues of those CD's till today.  I've written in to the CD label companies and queried the rot issue and the warranty on the expected lifespan of CD formats we were led to believe,  they blamed it on the impurities in the aluminium coating leading to the oxidative rot and ultimate destruction of the CD... so much for lifetime usage I guess.

Now, I've got to start making copies of my favourite CD's too🤣 🤣 .

Yeh, the large TV trend makes the home theater experience more intimate watching your favourite performances up close.

During my school days we had a VHS recorder, and the first time Herbert Von Karajan's new year concert was broadcast, I was ready to record it... and it was endlessly replayed till some years later, mould destroyed that tape...and we moved on with VCD's, DVD's, etc.. to streaming!

Anyway,  now I'm in the midst of doing up my home theater slowly, running new cables and a separate AudioVR System, oh and some soundproofing too, can't wait to test it out, hopefully next month. 👍
