Sunday Times Hot Bod (2 June 2019)

Kenneth Lee, 31

Bank assistant vice-president

spacer.png

Height: 1.73m

Weight: 66kg

Exercise Regimen: I'll usually hit the gym before work every morning, during which I'll focus on high-intensity interval training (HIIT) and strength training, among others. At least twice a week, I'll also go for lunchtime or evening runs around my workplace. On weekends, I have dragon-boat training, which includes water training and CrossFit.

Diet: I eat almost everything. It probably helps that I don't have a sweet tooth, so I don't crave things like chocolate, desserts or sugary drinks.

Okay, that’s him. One of the DBS’ poster boys. Has anyone spotted him in Regatta this weekend?

Marketing specialist

spacer.png

Height: 1.70m

Weight: 62kg

Exercise Regimen: I train four or five times a week for 2 1/2 hours each time. I am in the strength cycle of my training, focusing on upper body strength and squats because I am trying to qualify for the SEA Games. I start my training with the main lifts like the clean-and-jerk and the snatch at high intensity. I finish off with strength exercises to build muscles.

Diet: I do intermittent fasting, where my first meal is at 1pm and the last is at 10pm. I don't follow a strict diet but I have plenty of carbohydrates to fuel my workouts. I take baked almonds as a snack after heavy lunches and occasionally have KFC. I have proteins at night after workouts.

Joshua Koh, 30

Director of strategy

spacer.png

Height: 1.79m

Weight: 94kg

Exercise Regimen: I train two to three times a day. I run, cycle, lift weights and do functional training, but primarily CrossFit. I have quite a large gym at home but also train at commercial gyms. I am always working on my cardiorespiratory fitness, stremgth, functionality, as well as my mobility and flexibility. I maintain what is necessary to move my own body weight in water or on the ground - that means being able to do push-ups, pull-ups, swim and run.

Diet: I maintain a pretty strict diet even on weekends. I avoid rice, noodles and potatoes. If I am going to reduce my carbs, I will increase my fat intake so I eat things like avocado, bacon and coconut. I eat a lot of white-meat protein, like chicken, and a lot of vegetables and fruits. I drink a lot of water and coffee. I do not drink things like bubble tea and protein shakes.

I like what he said: "I maintain what is necessary to move my own body weight in water or on the ground - that means being able to do push-ups, pull-ups, swim and run."

This is very important especially now that I've hit the big 4-0.

Diet: I start the day with oatmeal, a scoop of whey protein powder and five eggs (consuming only two yolks). I usually have chicken breast and white fish with rice for lunch and dinner. Professional footballer

spacer.png

Height: 1.74m

Weight: 63kg

Exercise Regimen: I train 4-5 times a week, with a match on a weekday or weekend. In the morning, it's strength and conditioning workouts. Other days, I just work on my upper body. Football training starts at 5pm. After warming up and stretching, we go through functional activities like heading, running backwards, sideways, skipping and sprinting, followed by tactical training by the coach. It usually ends with a 5x5 match.

Diet: I start the day with a plate of toast, butter and yogurt. Sometimes I have an omelette with ham and cheese. For lunch, it's pasta or rice and chicken. For afternoon snacks, I probably have some fruits, gummy candy or sandwich. Dinner is chicken rice. I drink a lot of water throughout the day to stay hydrated.

Exercise Regimen: I played tchoukball for seven years before starting CrossFit, so I've always been active. I train six days a week, occasionally twice a day. With CrossFit, my training allows me to dabble in weightlifting, callisthenics, aerobic exercises and metabolic conditioning, among other things. The variety of movements keeps it interesting.

Diet: I eat in moderation, not stopping myself from enjoying food. I try to get enough calories to train consistently.

Height: 1.75m

Weight: 75kg

Exercise Regimen: I dedicate 3-4 weight training sessions a week by splitting my routine into muscle groups such as chest, back, legs and shoulders. When I am prepping for commercial work, I allocate at least 3-5 sessions of one-hour cardio on either the treadmill or stationary bike. My regimen varies, incorporating cross-country runs, crossfit routine, powerlifting techniques, trekking, bootcamp training, muay thai, and dragonboating.

Diet: I fast for 20 hours. The eating window is only four hours per day, taking in my quota of 3,500 calories. When I'm prepping, the 3,500 calories come from salmon, lean beef, chicken breast, brown rice, sweet potato, broccoli and asparagus. Otherwise, the 3,500 calories could be pasta, burger, ramen, sushi and fried chicken.

Exercise Regimen: I go to the gym four or five times a week and work out different muscle groups while focusing on compound movements such as squats, bench presses and dead lifts. I do barbell and dumbbell presses for my chest and work out with cables and dumbbells for my triceps. Weight: 65kg

Exercise Regimen: I go to the gym for strength training five times a week, each session targeting a specific muscle group. I also try to run twice a week, clocking about 4km each time.

Diet: I try to have a balanced diet, usually rice, meat and vegetables. I avoid taking soft drinks, but I do have a sweet tooth and will occasionally indulge in chocolates and cake.

Text and picture by Desmond Wee, apparently he did not edit both the exercise regimen and diet texts, as they were exactly the same as last week's.

Weight: 72kg

Exercise Regimen: I do weight training six or seven days a week and fast cardio in the morning for 30 to 45 minutes four or five times a week. I have completed six Ironmans, four ultra-marathons and over 20 marathons. Currently I am training for my first bodybuilding show, the Men's Physique, next month. It's a big change from endurance sport to aesthetic sport.

Diet: Oats and protein are staples for me every morning. Lunch and dinner usually consist of fish and brown rice. All my meals are home cooked. If I'm eating outside, my choices will be prioritised around protein and I try to avoid fried food. I take protein supplements as well as fish oil, zinc, magnesium and other multi-vitamins.

Exercise Regimen: I work out every morning for an hour. I focus on different muscle groups, alternating between pull and push exercises. On certain evenings, I cycle or use the stepper machine for half an hour to work on my cardio.

Diet: I eat whatever I want but in moderation. I usually avoid sugary drinks. On days before photo shoots, I practise carb cycling - I alternate the intake of carbs like rice, taking it every other day.
