I prefer good looking features to skin color.

I have watched a documentary about skin whitening businesses in Philippines, Thailand, Indonesia. Part of the reason why many wanted a fair white skin was the influence of k-pop/drama. Another ridiculous reason for them to whiten skin was they can get a job easily. Quite sad though.

A1) I can only answer for myself.  The answer is not a 'yes' - I don't 'ONLY' go for Chinese guys.  But most of the time I do.  

 

Q2) Why do Chinese prefer also Chinese?

A2) I can't speak for all Chinese or even most of them.  I can only speak for myself.   The reasons are - cultural fit, language fit, norms fit, religion fit, food fit.  That said I prefer Northern Chinese to Southern Chinese.  They have sharper features and bulkier build. 

 

There's more than 1.4 bil diverse Chinese, it's inappropriate to put them all under one label as if they should confirm to a certain type.

For a certain generation I think it is caused by porn or TV movies. You went to cinema and only got white guys in all the movies. Stars were white, singers, rock stars, country where whites. The TV program was in majority white guys.

If you talk to a certain generation, then porn surely was white guys and few Asians, yes Japanese porn was there also but at a much later stage.

At my first stint here, I think surely the fact that I was staying alone (and in a HDB, haha) contributed for being on high demand. I guess, locals rarely had the privacy to engage in fun at home, unless the rest of the family was on a trip to Melaka or KL etc and the boy pretended to be sick and stayed back (or any other reason). Then probably he dared to bring another guy home.

I mentioned post-colonial I think, and you rightly pointed out a legacy of that: representation on mainstream media. Our notion of beauty is generally shaped by what we see everyday around us. If it’s white people, that’s what you believe to be the ideal. Similarly in Singapore, you see Chinese people represented everywhere in mainstream media so that becomes sort of a benchmark of what is attractive.

I just saw a video showing Uyghur people working in the tomato fields.  They look different than the Singapore Chinese...  and...  are these poor people exploited!   There are many ethnicities among the population of China:  Han, Hui, Zhuang, Mongolians, with very different status...

I think both those things can be true. While there’s truth to the discrimination, it doesn’t come from all people of Chinese heritage in Singapore. You can’t paint everyone with the same brush stroke. 
As for him dating only Chinese guys,  there could be other reasons for that too so who knows? But also, if he truly had a problem with Chinese people as a whole, he probably wouldn’t be dating one, as you say.

Yeah.. can't deny that. Race not the issue for me too. But smooth guys are a big bonus for me. I was attached for more than 6 years to a smooth Malay dude before we went our separate ways due to situational circumstances.

Did you look into the mirror?

If I m not wrong plenty of your own people are quite dark skinned. I don't think they are less sought on the meat market.

i think it is just a coincidence. I doubt there is a certain kind of preference unless it is an embedded racism in their mind since young. Your case, maybe you have not met one or rather they felt inferior to you haha.

 

Our brains are more attune to familiarities hence the preference towards "own" race as mentioned by one of the comment above with all fittings.

 

Having said that, it does not equate to generalizing "all" chinese. There are also chinese who married korean, british, americans, peruvians, indians, indons, malays, etc. One thing is sure is that there will always be preference or I would say "preference" to select own race first and putting the rest as secondary.
