  1. Alice Maple at 01-101 Lucky Plaza has a good range of vibrators and dildos. Plus a friendly male boss on weekdays in case you feel shy sharing your secret fetishes with pushy sales girls lol
  2. Saw this in the shop but too shy to ask about it
  3. Saw this in the shop but too shy to ask about it
  4. For basic toys, I buy online from https://best.aliexpress.com/?lan=en For condoms and lubs or more complex toys where quality is key, my go-to shop is Alice Maple (Lucky Plaza, #01-101) or http://www.alicemaple.com/ Reason is the friendly male boss is there on weekdays from 12 pm to 8 pm and he is very knowledgeable about the products he carries. Being a guy, he has tried the products himself and able to tell you frankly how it feels. I hate shops that mark up their prices exorbitantly and then offer you steep discounts. AliceMaple does not do that. In fact, if you are a regular customer like me, you might even get free samples and genuine discounts!
  5. Truly inspirational song for a brand new lunar year! When I was in the 3rd grade I thought that I was gay Cause I could draw, my uncle was And I kept my room straight I told my mom, tears rushing down my face She's like, "Ben you've loved girls since before pre-K" Trippin', yeah, I guess she had a point, didn't she A bunch of stereotypes all in my head I remember doing the math like "Yeah, I'm good at little league" A pre-conceived idea of what it all meant For those who like the same sex had the characteristics The right-wing conservatives think its a decision And you can be cured with some treatment and religion Man-made, rewiring of a pre-disposition Playing God Ahh nah, here we go America the brave Still fear what we don't know And God loves all His children And somehow forgotten But we paraphrase a book written 3,500 hundred years ago I don't know And I can't change Even if I tried Even if I wanted to And I can't change Even if I tried Even if I wanted to My love, my love, my love She keeps me warm [x4] If I was gay I would think hip-hop hates me Have you read the YouTube comments lately "Man that's gay" Gets dropped on the daily We've become so numb to what we're sayin' Our culture founded from oppression Yeah, we don't have acceptance for 'em Call each other faggots Behind the keys of a message board A word routed in hate Yet our genre still ignores it Gay is anonymous with the lesser It's the same hate that's caused wars from religion Gender and skin color Complexion of your pigment The same fight that lead people to walk-outs and sit-ins Human rights for everybody There is no difference Live on! And be yourself! When I was in church They taught me something else If you preach hate at the service Those words aren't anointed And that Holy Water That you soak in Is then poisoned When everyone else Is more comfortable Remaining voiceless Rather than fighting for humans That have had their rights stolen I might not be the same But that's not important No freedom 'til we're equal Damn right I support it I don't know We press play Don't press pause Progress, march on! With a veil over our eyes We turn our back on the cause ' Till the day That my uncles can united by law Kids are walkin' around the hallway Plagued by pain in their heart A world so hateful Someone would rather die Than be who they are And a certificate on paper Isn't gonna solve it all But it's a damn good place to start No law's gonna change us We have to change us Whatever god you believe in We come from the same one Strip away the fear Underneath it's all the same love About time that we raised up Love is patient, love is kind Love is patient (not cryin' on Sundays) Love is kind (not crying on Sundays) [x5]
  6. "Regrets" first sung by Mavis Hee (Xu Meijing). http://youtu.be/DkuQsctn2T4
  7. Another cover by Li Dai Mo. Beautiful song. http://youtu.be/0g3cDUdaMTI
  8. If you like tiny checks and slim-fit designs, your best bet is Ben Sherman at Paragon or Vivo City. Another place to explore is Tommy Hilfiger at Raffles City. Their checks are usually bigger and more brightly-coloured. Why not consider tailoring? You can then choose your own fabric and design.
  9. A&F just opened in Hong Kong on 11 August. See link http://www.cnngo.com/hong-kong/shop/abercrombie-340592?hpt=hp_bn8
  10. Hi Alishan, don't mean to dampen your enthusiasm. Perhaps you would enjoy shopping in Taipei more than I did. Here's a comment on Wenfenpu on one of the sites: This is a wholesaler area of 80% women's fashion clothing and 20% guys' clothes. Walk here from Houshanpi mrt station (10min), but don't come here on Mon as that's the day when wholesalers sell to storesowners only. Although prices here are on average cheaper than say Ximending, the fashion at Ximending is slightly different and better quality? I don't know, but that's my experience. I ended up buying alot more unique stuff from Ximending than Wufenpu. But it's really a place for young adults and teens to buy trendy cheap cfashion clothes. Prices range from NT 200 to NT800. 11. Article in today's Sunday Times Life section where chef Andre Chiang shares his favourite eating places in Taipei. Worth a look for eating tips.
  12. Here's the link to wikitravel for more information. Compared to the metro system in Seoul or Tokyo, the one in Taipei is easier to navigate and clean and efficient as well. The only problem is that the stations are usually not linked to major buildings and you will have to do a bit of walking in the open e.g. Xinyi District. Bring an umbrella in case it rains. If you limit your itinerary to 2 or 3 places a day, then you can afford to take all the time you need to move around. Take a cab only to those places which are less accessible e.g Longshan Temple / Wanhua district. Take my word for it, you will be seriously disappointed in the shopping even though some of the department stores like Shinkong Mitsukoshi Dept Store are 10 storeys or more high. Most stores open at 11 am. Since your parents are elderly, do target to be back in the hotel after dinner except on the days you are off to the Yeshi, so that they can rest. Hope this helps 8-)
  13. 7 - 8 days is a lot of time. If you are a seasoned traveller, you can venture off the beaten track to Mynamar or Laos. If you prefer cities, you can city-hop in Australia (Sydney & Melbourne), Korea or Taiwan. Check tripadvisor for weather forecasts in Aug.
  14. Alishan, didn't know your parents are in their 70s and 80s. You might want to slow things down a little so that they have enough rest between stops. Pick a few things you think they will enjoy and not try to do too much in a spate of five days. Temperatures in November ranges from 18 degrees to 23 degrees Celsius so you might want to pack warm jackets, scarves and non-slip walking shoes for them. How about lunch at the original Din Tai Fung in Xinyi Road? They might enjoy that 8-)
  15. My last trip to Taipei was in 2007 so not sure if some of this info is still valid. Best thing to do is to Google and check out for yourself where to go. Transport Best way to get around Taipei is by the Taipei Metro (our MRT equivalent). Buy a One-Day pass to travel around. Refer to this link for more info. If you plan to take the Gao Tie (high speed train) to Taichung, the train takes only 45 min. My advice is not to bother. Nothing much to do in Taichung unless en route to somewhere else. Danshui Station Where Jay Chou shot the movie 'Secret'. Seaside town with souvenir shops, cafes and seafood restaurants. Try the Peacock mussel and walk the Lovers Bridge at sunset. Xinbeitou Station Walk uphill to sample one of the many hot springs. Separate for males and females. The sulfuric water is supposed to be good for treating neuralgia, skin ailments and arthritis. Shilin Station National Palace Museum. Opening hours 9 am - 5 pm. See the jade cabbage. Jiantan Station Alight here for Shilin Yeshi. Heard it's not as good as before. You can try the chicken chop, Ai Yu or the oyster omelette. Ximen Station Ximenting. Hangout for youngsters. Food to try are Ah Zhong Mian Sian and Lau Tian Braised Shop. Taipei Main Station (Interchange)/Taipei Railway Shinkong Mitsukoshi Dept Store Zhongxiao Dunhua Station Eslite 24hr Bookshop (Chen Ping). Sogo Dept Store ZhongXiao Xinsheng Station GuangHua Market The best place to get computer/electronics products in Taipei. It's like Sim Lim Square in Singapore except these are really small shops in a wet market kind of layout. Taipei City Hall station Taipei World Trade Center Shinkong Mitsukoshi Dept Store (XinKuang San Yue) Taipei 101 Shopping Mall (Go up to the Observatory) New York New York Houshanpi station/Songshan Railway Wufenpu Garment Wholesale (Good to buy cheap clothing) Raohe Yeshi (another night market) Day Trips YangMingShan (bus Red 5R NT15 from Zhongzhen jie, 30mins ride) - hiking trail and hot springs Wulai (bus to Wulai NT40 from Xindian, 25mins ride) - hot springs JiuFen (bus to Jiufen NT44 from Cheelong)- gold mining old town Chiang Kai Shek Memorial Hall Very clean and well laid out. Somewhat artificial and gimmicky. Not really worth going except for a peek. Shopping in Taipei Nearly everything in Taiwan is imported so things cost more here. In terms of price and variety, better to shop in Singapore. Have an enjoyable trip with your parents!

  17. Since we are so lacking in Asian celebrities who are out and proud, here are the ones from the West to act as our "role models" for the time being: http://www.tvguide.com/PhotoGallery/Gay-Celebrities-Coming-Out-1048116
  18. Many years back, I read Anderson Cooper's book "Dispatches from the Edge" and was wondering to myself if he were gay. He shared many personal stories in that book and on this point he was curiously silent. Well now we know. For those who wish to read the original article of his reply to Andrew Sullivan, here's the link. People in the public eye are naturally more cautious about sharing their sexual identity to the world, lest it damages their credibility and affects their livelihood. When they are good and ready, they will share this part of themselves to others. Another person who came out recently is the actor Jim Parsons, from "The Big Bang Theory". It was mentioned in a matter-of-fact manner in a New York Times article about his latest Broadway performance "Mr. Parsons is gay and in a 10-year relationship, and working with an ensemble again onstage was like nourishment, he said." Here's the link.
  19. I know Domanchi (Vivocity, Bugis Junction, Marina Square X Square, Centrpoint X Square and Plaza Singapura POA Superstore) sells mandarin collar suits but not sure if they sell mandarin collar long-sleeve shirts. You can give them a call and check it out.
  20. I like Lacoste polo tees, especially their collaboration with other designers such as Jonathan Adler. I also like Ben Sherman polo tees for their wide range of colours and slim fit designs. If you prefer minimalist designs in cotton, you may like Muji - very comfortable material. Best time to buy these brands is during a sale, when they are a lot more affordable. A good place to find well-cut polo and tees at reasonable prices is Stash, B1-05, Orchard Central, just below the escalator. Here's the Facebook link.
  21. SINGAPORE: Apple launched its iTunes Store in 12 Asian markets on Wednesday, giving access to millions of songs and movies including local favourites, but regional giants China and India were not on the list. The move by California-based Apple, which has sold more than 16 billion songs worldwide on the platform, opens it up further to growing Asian economies where its devices have proved massively popular. "What took them so long?" said Chen Wei Li, a 28-year-old Singaporean who owns an iPhone, iPad and MacBook Pro laptop. "I personally am looking to download some music off the iTunes store," he added. The iTunes Store is now open to consumers with credit cards issued in Brunei, Cambodia, Hong Kong, Laos, Macau, Malaysia, the Philippines, Singapore, Taiwan, Thailand, Sri Lanka and Vietnam. It was already available in Japan, Australia and New Zealand. Customers will now be able to choose from more than 28 million songs, including hits by Asian stars, as well as rent or buy movies from studios such as 20th Century Fox, Paramount, Universal, Disney and Warner Brothers. "We're always working to bring the iTunes Store to more customers around the world, as conditions permit," Apple said in a written reply to AFP when asked why China and India were not yet included. Neha Dharia, a Mumbai-based analyst with business research firm Ovum, said several criteria including support for intellectual property rights are considered by Apple before opening up the iTunes Store to any market. "These include the adoption of Apple devices, consumer preferences for digital distribution of content, ability to forge partnerships for procuring local content and, of course, levels of piracy and the measures to combat it," Mumbai-based Dharia told AFP. Apple's Asian expansion, which followed the December launch of the iTunes Store in Brazil and 15 other Latin American markets, now makes commercial sense despite concerns over piracy, another analyst said. "Up to a certain point, piracy in the whole region was something they were looking at with a critical eye," said Melissa Chau, a Singapore-based regional research manager with US market intelligence firm IDC. "But what has changed in the last couple of years was how popular iPads and iPhones have become in this region. "It makes sense for them to capture revenues from these users who have iPads and iPhones." Apple is estimated to have shipped 35 million iPhones and iPads in the Asia-Pacific region excluding Japan in 2011, Chau said. "Now that they have reached most markets, what other ways can they expand revenues?" said Chau. "This is the natural evolution of an integrated ecosystem for their own products and services." Apple's latest earnings announced in April showed it made a profit of $11.6 billion on revenues of $39.2 billion in the March quarter, thanks largely to booming demand for iPhones and iPads in Asia including China. More than 16 billion songs have been sold through the iTunes Store since it was launched in 2003, according to Apple figures. In March, the firm said more than 25 billion apps had been downloaded from the App Store by the users of more than 315 million iPhone, iPad and iPod touch devices. - AFP/al

  23. What I like about BW: when members come forward with a geunine problem, other BWers would offer constructive advice based on their own experiences and true empathy. What I dislike: Bitchin'. On the whole, the Mods do a good job of managing the site. If we all respect each other's views and do a bit of self-management, then the Mods would not have to come down hard on anyone. Kudos to one and all for keeping the forum alive and well!
  24. If you are travelling alone, do the following: read up well in advance the place you are going e.g. thorn tree forum book transport and accommodation beforehand if you don't want to feel disoriented upon arrival keep your money in various places for safety's sake carry a book to read when you are eating alone be open to chat with strangers but don't reveal personal information offer to take pictures for other solo travellers and they will do the same for you keep a blog or diary to record your experiences learn to enjoy your own company - that is key to a good trip! The best thing about travelling solo is how vivid every experience is - be it the colour, sound, smell, taste and feel. It is uniquely your own experience and no one can claim the same. The worst thing is the bouts of loneliness when you realise you have no one to share with. Start with nearby destinations and build up your travel expertise. There are lots of solo female travellers, especially Japanese, wandering around all over the planet. Have fun!
