I think the first step to overcoming your fear of walking around naked in the changing room is to accept that whatever body parts we have is due to genetics.  However it looks like, it is important that it can give you an orgasm.  

Once you accept that your penis size, like your facial features, is the hand that you have been dealt with, you can then work on your self consciousness.  In Japan, the men in the onsen are totally naked, and walk around naked too.  And their penises come in all shapes and size.  They do not feel self conscious because they are used to being naked, and have accepted that it is what it is.  Perhaps you can take this as a starting point.

I agree with you.  My experience was very similar, except that it was not an onsen, it was an open shower in a foreign country.

 

I think our hang-ups is due to our parent's conservative style of upbringing. 

 

I feel the fathers in Singapore has much to answer to.  They went through NS, they were probably initially embarrassed by having to shower openly with other men, and when they have sons, did they prepare their sons for this eventuality?  quite apparently, very few did - or at least.

Yes, shame culture is definitely a contributory factor to being embarrassed for being naked.
