Advice On Male Skin Care - Acne Product / Body Lotion / Moisturizer / Face Wash (Compiled)

Guest cured from acne

I have used DHC products, I find them nothing special, the only product I now using for occasional pimple is DHC Pimple Spot, here's what it looks like http://img.pupe.ameba.jp/image/item/l/Q2-neUFm8v6X.jpg

You need to use a good skin care with good ingredients like Paula's Choice such as cleanser, 2% BHA liquid, and moisturizer. I am using it right now and has been pimple free.

actually most acne products contain some sort of 'acid' like AHA, DHA, Peroxide etc.

the purpose of these acids are to dry and peel ur skin and kill bacteria.

some products command high price tag but u r actually buying for the same ingredient used in a cheaper product.

dont get suck into believing expensive branded products will actually work.

when buying acne products, look at the ingreidnets used. some products use natural ingredients like tea tree and neem which i think will not solve any acne products as it is mild and natural.

the old formulation Body Shop Tea Tree cleanser works ok for me but the new formulation is very harsh for my skin. My skin felt like as if i have soaked in swimming pool water for some times and i ended up getting more pimples.

waste my money...i am using the remainder cleanser to scrub my back and wash my feet instead!

go see a General Practitioner and ask for a prescription for Retin A, then get the prescription to guardian pharmacy to buy it. It is the best and cheap way to control your acne problem but do read the instructions.

GOD Bless!

sorry if sound silly, but isn't what " inner " is more important?

what i mean is your eating, sleeping habits etc, do you get stress, upset or angry often?

fruits & vege mixed juices very good for beauty & health, i believe in 由内开始 :)

Its not silly its utterly rubbish

I had a campmate once who was super fit, super vain, who won't use any less than Clinque, won't drink anything less than Evian, ate only fruit and veggies, because of some strange religion he was into.

His acne is so bad that I couldn't decide where his nose was, or where his mouth was when he doesn't talk.

When he closed his eyes and shut his mouth, I thought he was growing mushrooms or toadstools on his face.

With each acne minimum size of your 50ct coin, I couldn't help being rude but my eyes would wonder looking at all the acne he had instead of looking into his eyes when we talked.

Reason?

The acne were ripely yellowed like the durian fruit. I was very afraid they may just suddenly burst and squirm on my face, or the worst scenerio was to hit into my eyes, and blind me instead.

Sometimes when the yellow pus just oozed from his face, and him, being unawared, you knew he had just visited the toilet for a big business. Know what I mean ?

For a good result try "pimpit" from shiseido. Its comes in a red/white tube prized at 1000yen abt $15.

Its only sold in Japan, as far as I know

If you have severe acne, you may need to consult a skin specialist who may prescribe a course of Roacuttane (not sure of spelling). Apparently, it is a high concentrate of Vit A. If your acne is just acne, i will suggest the following:

Cleanser and toner - Bodyshop tea tree oil series

Acne gel and serum - Neostrata which has AHA, BHA etc, very effective spot and surface treatment, it may leave your skin a little dry

Moisturiser - H20 oil-free hydrating

i feel that there isn't really a need to get a 'branded' or expensive facial wash cos you just apply them on for like 10 seconds and then wash it off. and the purpose is just to cleanse your face.

i invest in those moisturisers, serum, eye care etc but for facial wash, i just get one from a drugstore brand.

I believe products without added colour or fragrance works best for most skin types.

Simple range of skin care products contains no fragrance or colours and i have been using them for a while.

It is cheap and good.

Yes and i invest a bit more in some serums for an added booster to my skincare regime. For example Vitamin C.

Yes and no to what you said.

Yes, you do not need to buy very expensive branded facial wash to cleanse your face, there are many good products available thats only a fraction of the cost.

And No, you should not use those cheap bathing soap (eg. Lux, Pamolive, Camay and the likes) to wash your face with, they can be too harsh for your skin and can cause dryness, even though is only a very briefly wash.

If you ask any of those beauty consultants, surely they will recommend products like $50 for a bar of soap etc.

But if you ask a dermalogist,a skin specialist, they will probably recommend something very much cheaper cleanser but perform the same as those branded ones.

Soap or cleanser that contain no colouring and fragrance are always better.

Think, no one's skin can be more delicate than a baby's and yet a baby can be bathe everyday with Johnson & Johnson baby soap.

Another product "SIMPLE" is also very mild, inexpensive and suitable for even very delicate skin.

Cetaphil Gentle Skin Cleanser is also another inexpensive product, good for those with dry skin that need a bit of moisturising.

As a non vege nor fruits eater, and a self-proclaimed Biotherm Homme Ambassador,I am a Biotherm user myself! :)

P.S. However, for facial scrub,I personally prefer “Clinique — Skin Supplies for Men” than any other brands though... :P

I dun use SK-II but i heard that it really does wonders for your skin, especially with its facial treatment essence.

but also heard that after using SK-II, your skin will depend on it. if you stop using, your skin will become worse.

Call it whatever name u want, a man that thinks of putting powder on their face is closer to being a transvestite than being a man. Therefore no man should wear make-up unless he is an actor, a clown, or living in a stylo metropolitan..

Actually, putting powder on our face doesnt discount our masculnity or crudely, manliness.

This is like how people view guys wearing pink t-shirt in the 80s. Similarly, a guy using facial mask for healthy glowing skin doesnt degrade his manhood in any degree.

Jean Paul Gaultier Better Than Tan Loose Powder is in fact an oil - absorbing bronzing powder that gives your face a sun-kissed natural touch, without the oily shiny look at all.

Its avail at TANGS

imchaser,I put on 遮瑕膏 and loose powder on my face on selected occasions 的咯… How? 怎麼辦? :P

Hello! I'm thinking of getting a clay mask to cleanse my face - y'know, absorb all the dirt and impurities. Does anyone have suggestions as to which clay mask is good? I'm thinking of buying the Himalaya Herbals Purifying Mud Pack.

Thanks you guys:)

I have tried Himalaya Mud Pack and it is not bad. You may also want to try the following depending on your budget:

- The Body Shop Seaweed Ionic Clay Mask (buy 2 get 1 free)

- Kiehls Rare Earth Pore Cleansing Mask

Use Doronko Clay from Yamano - $!^*( best for Asian skin. Contains very fine particles, can help skin to absorb the dirt, but also has detoxification effect; its ingredients cucumber juice can be sufficient enough to fill the water skin, regulating skin texture, skin cleansing in the time of deep moisture. It promotes a clear, clean and refreshing feeling

after use, with the elasticity of baby-smooth skin.

Be a smart consumer, dun assume expensive product always = good product. Go try this St. Ives Mineral Clay Filming Mask - good and price is reasonable. Can be purchased from Watson or Guardian :thumb: Other St. Ives products are also pretty good.

I use Yamano's Doronko clay masque as well. Unlike many which either overdry or underperform, this leaves a nice balance effect. If you need deep cleansing, suggest Eve Lom's Purifying masque. Virtually removes all the dead cells, making your face look freshly brightened. Needs to double up with hydrating masque as it's very drying.

Hi, KOSE 'MASK WHITE' is good as u can see 粉刺being suck out when u pull off the mask. But you have to make sure the mask layer is not too thin. It cost less than S$30 in DFS. Probably have to add 7% GST or maybe Robinson is absorbing the GST now.

Yes, both Bodyshop and St Ives' use too much alcohol, thus drying the skin immediately upon washing. This drying effect gives the superficial tautness, and since the face is too stripped off of the natural oil, the sebaceous glands on your face start working, and your pores get oily and clogged up within no time. That's why you'd want to invest in a good facial mask like Yamano's.

I've been using The Organic Pharmacy's Greenclay detox mask, contains turmeric and fuller's earth i find it's great for drawing out my black heads and also reduce the swelling of acne, which I'm very prone to getting. unfortunately, a bit troublesome to get the mask as only sold by Bud in Mandarin Gallery. the other one I use in between is Clinique's Deep Cleansing Emergency Mask, pretty good too. :)

Just for you to note: There are two ways of removing this mask. One is to wash it off with warm water, the other is to gentle rub at it, it becomes somewhat like an exfoliator. The second method is good for the T-zone as this is the oilier part of the face.

The texture is something a first-timer needs to get used to. It's sticky and real viscous, you'll have to scope it out from the pot. This is also the good thing about this mask, it does not dries out your skin completely. In fact, I uses this every other day when it's near the time of the month to combat the onset of oily skin. For normal skin, twice every week is more than enough.

I really like this mask because it effectively cleans my pores without irritating my skin. My skin really feels smoother after using this for 2 months. And the irritating blackheads are so much easier to remove after use.

Any good face concealer to recommend?

I've never used one before but is looking to try out one cos was told that concealer is a very useful skincare/make up product for guys as well. :thumb:

There are no concealers designed specially for any particular sex. The purpose of a concealer is to conceal any minor flaws on the face, so practically, it is useful for both men and women. But ofcos, as mentioned, if u use only the concealer, it will result in patches without a layer of foundation.

For me, I’m currently using ARTISTRY™ Concealer SPF15 PA++ and ARTISTRY™ Ideal Dual Powder Foundation SPF18 PA+++.

Under the advice and colour-matching by the head lady consultant, she found a concealer (stick form) with a colour slightly darker than my skin tone and foundation with a slightly lighter colour. She told me, as per my own witnessing, the application of the foundation will initially make my skin tone look lighter, but as the Artistry Foundation was formulated with patented Ideal Shade Technology, the colour of the foundation will manage to adjust and blend with my original skin tone colour within a short period, which was fascinating. Even the flaws have been reduced of their visibility a lot. The result would be at least u dun look so ‘flawed’ and won’t look too ‘flawless’, unless u really take really intensive care of ur face.

Features of the Artistry Concealer:

  • Exclusive ARTISTRY Ideal Shade Technology features shades that adjust to match skin tone.
  • Protective Complexion Barrier helps neutralise free radicals to protect from environmental assaults and prevent visible signs of premature aging.
  • Long-wearing formula resists creasing for an instant uniform finish.
  • SPF 15 PA++ protects against exposure to UVA/UVB rays from the sun

Features of the Artistry Ideal Dual Powder Foundation:

  • Ideal Shade Technology – “Intelligent” powder connects to your skin and adjusts to match and reflect each individual skin tone
  • Ideal Powder Technology – 3D micro-sphere powder evens skin tone and conceals fine lines and wrinkles
  • Aura of Protection – Invisible barrier above skin that shields against free radicals and other environmental assaults to help prevent premature aging
  • SPF 18 PA+++ – protects against UVA/UVB rays
  • Weightless – adheres perfectly without caking
  • Dual function – can be applied wet or dry
