I kinda avoid Thai LGBT movies- they are usually too cutesy, too camp, too tragic and/or too melodramatic.

Thai horror movies always have that twist in the end, which are usually quite predictable.

Though I kinda like how Shutter throws some red herrings and some McGuffins along the way before the final reveal. But for every Shutter, there are crap Thai horror flicks that are too many to mention.

But you know which Thai movies I like?

The director is AJ too, so the tone is much more positive in this film. Other Vietnamese gay-theme movies all either made fun of gay people, pitied them, or worse, degraded them.

one thing struck me when i watch the clip - the similarities of how we gaymen look and behave regardless of where we are, what our nationalities are... can i say this is ultimately, about being in the acme of health and beauty, about being in love. and so regardless where, who, what we are, the fit and healthy human body looks the same and on the same token, love between two persons is the same - the look of love, the feel of love, the behaviour of people in love. it is all the same!

A Vietnamese movie has been nominated to the Discovery category for outstanding works from promising filmmakers around the world at this month's Toronto International Film Festival in Canada.

"Hot boy nổi loạn và câu chuyện về thằng Cười, cô gái điếm và con vịt" by Vũ Ngọc Đãng will be screened at the festival under the title "Lost in Paradise."

Giovanna Fulvi, the Asian cinema programmer for the festival, wrote on the festival's website: "Perhaps the first film from Vietnam to depict homosexual love both explicitly and in a positive light, Vũ Ngọc Đãng's 'Lost in Paradise' conveys its characters' lives in a remarkable range of tones, from the humorous to the absurd to the tragic.

"It opens our eyes to rarely glimpsed facets of contemporary Vietnam, and relays stories that are usually left untold."

The 100-minute film, which narrates the story of Khoa, an innocent man who leaves his poor village for Sai Gon and falls in love with Lam, a male prostitute, has just been finished and is awaiting certification by the National Film Board for public screening in Vietnam.

Yeah ... I might wait for it to come to London at next year's Gay Film Festival - I really don't wanna have to watch a Singaporean-censored version.

Mind you, I will be in Vietnam from the 20-27 Oct, do you know if they have English/French/Chinese subtitles for films in Vietnam? (They used to years ago, but I don't know if they bother anymore?) I can speak a little Tieng Viet, but there's no way I can understand a film like that without subtitles cos they speak soooooooo fast.

Yeah I also wonder why a communist country like vietnam can allow a gay movie in cinema with lots of nude scene. They are becoming more open-minded already.

Hey i found out that they do have English subtiltles for every Vietnamese films that are screened in the cinemas. You can go to any local cinema there during your visit.
