Oh this is bad…. Aren’t public swimming pools for the public?  All the hours avail to working adults appear to be taken up by private groups…

Exactly. It happens even on weekend where the public pools are all packed. I can understand swim instructors need to make a living but there should be some rules and regulations of blocking out the pools, right? I feel better actions can be taken to mitigate pool closure.

Went to Kallang Basin sometime in the last quarter and noticed that only half of the competition pool is available for general public so you don't get to swim the entire full length of the pool anymore.

Heard from a friend of mine that there's a possibility that Kallang pool may be the next one to be permanently closed. When that would happen is still unknown. If that happens before the new Toa Payoh Sports Hub is opened, then the other pools will even be more crowded. Right now it's insanely packed at Geylang East pool as they close half the competition pool at 7pm for waterpolo training and on some days the entire competition pool can't be used as the other half is also allocated to those people doing water aerobics. It's crazy that they close the other half for just 10 aunties doing water aerobics.

Time for a letter to Straits Times forum. It is indeed getting very ridiculous.

OMG...that would be sad and bad if what you heard is true! They should at least wait for TPY Sports Hub to be up and running before closing down Kallang pool. Currently, that pool, together with Katong and Geylang East pools are absorbing the loads from old TPY. Kallang Basin pool is totally useless to the public. Katong and Geylang East pools are packed to the brim, at times overflow. TPY is not going to be ready in the next 6-7 years (est. 2031?)

No use one. ActiveSG/SportSG will reply using some templates that totally not addressing the issue you wrote in at all. ActiveSG always has its "reasons" that make no sense at all.

How packed is Katong pool on a weekday? which are the busy hours?

If u want to avoid crowded situations, u may consider noon time between 11.30 to 3. But it’s scorching 🥵
